This hotel has it all from a wheel chair accessibility point of view. We recently stayed here for eight nights whilst visiting family and seeing the sights of Canberra. The hotel is charming with a wonderful history. We loved the two-course menu special at the restaurant each night and if we felt like a light lunch in the bistro there...

The Mercure is located close to sights like the War Memorial (walking distance) and features rooms spread along low wings. Great local service, excellent rooms, and a pub and restaurant attached. Acceptable but not outstanding breakfast, with flexibility to order changes.

I paid $330 a night for an antiquated, run down hotel. A fair price would be half that amount. The breakfast is average, the location isn't great unless you have transport, the staff are OK. Avoid this place unless absolutely necessary.

Stayed here in mid March. Last time I stayed here hotel was called Olims. Hotel has clearly undergone some sort of renovation since last time when it was old and tired. Common areas are much fresher and seemed lighter (always thought Olims was very dark). Hotel still has a weird floor plan (it is a winding hike to your room)...

I stayed here a couple of times years ago, back when it was called "Olims" - this is the first time under new 'Mercure' brand/management as a part of the Accor group. After booking over the phone from the airport at short notice I secured a room - on arrival as an Accor Advantage Plus member I got a free...

Great reception, comfortable, spacious room and a true welcome for our dog "Rosie". I should keep this place quiet but the Duty Manager was exceptional and every assistance was made available - a treat for the dog while we enjoyed a quality breakfast on the terrace. Also, the pub attached served great food for dinner in the beer garden -...

I was after a place close to the War Memorial and found this online..It turned out to be an excellent choice. It was closer to the WM than I thought and also on a main street that lead straight to the shopping malls in Canberra. We had a king room that overlooked the car park, and other homes..I would have...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to Mercure Canberra, a part of Canberra's history Originally known as the Hotel Ainslie, Mercure Canberra was built to provide accommodation for public servants relocating to Canberra to support the transfer of the Commonwealth Parliament. It is one of eight remaining government built hotels or hostels from Canberra's first stage of development in the 1920s and is listed in the Register of the National Estate. Mercure Canberra is historically significant for its important role in the development of North Canberra and the forging of its community identity. While maintaining many original features, the hotel embraces the need for 21st century comforts to ensure you feel welcome and have an enjoyable stay. Our 129 guest rooms are well appointed and have been decorated in keeping with the heritage style of the building. Our Standard rooms are located in the Heritage wing, with the layout and style of room not changing from the hotels' original days. For those looking for a more modern layout, you may wish to select one of our Superior or Deluxe Loft rooms in the newer part of the building. Our guests have the option to dine at our onsite Courtyard Restaurant serving modern Australian cuisine in the evening and a choice of Continental or Buffet breakfast in the morning. Those looking for a more casual dining experience can enjoy Bistro style meals from our Olims Bar & Bistro, a favourite spot for hotel guests and locals to mingle, serving Craft Beers & Cider from our very own Lovedale Brewery Our location is ideal. 600m from the Australian War Memorial commemorating those who serve our country, both past and present. Most of Canberra's National Attractions are within 10 minutes' drive from the hotel and the CBD is and easy 10 minute walk away and offers a wide range of cafes, bars and restaurants, as well as shops and a Dendy Movie Cinema. Our team at Mercure Canberra look forward to making you feel welcome when you plan your next stay in beautiful Canberra, Australia ... more   less
