We had the best time ever in Mathis lodge. It was absolutely exceptional. I enjoyed my stay with my wife and everything was just perfect. The staff, view, rooms, food, atmosphere... I think that it actually is my favorite hotel in Bali and I already reserved my stay for next month. Thank you once again to the Mathis Lodge Team.

First of all I would like to thank to Frederic and all the staff the sweet welcome to this paradise, location of the hotel is amazing with great views to the bay, infinitive pool, big and covert clean bedrooms and everything working, hotel offers a shuttle to go down to the beach, very punctual. You will be able to enjoy of local food, everything home made, but also of another varieties of food, we regret to check out today to continue our journey, but if we have the chance we will come back again. Frederic I will inform you in advance so you can have stock of hats!

First of all.. The hosting manager was very helpful, his name is Frederic. He texted us to make sure about our booking and also explain everything in details because yes it was a very challenging road to get to Mathis Lodge especially the last 3km. We went there with bike, so he offered to park the bike at the parking area and manage a shuttle truck to pick us up. Secondly, The place itself is amazing. They have a breath-taking unreal view for sure. The room ambience also very nice, spacious bed for two, balcony also nice facing the ocean and mountain. The restaurant with a pool also facing the mountain and the ocean, ala carte foods were super good.. chef kiss! The staff are really friendly and helpful with everything we need. We did enjoy our stay in Mathis Lodge 💯% and highly recommend it to everyone!

After spending sometime exploring the sites around Bali my girlfriend and I were looking for somewhere to unwind before heading back to Europe. I cannot overstate how happy we were at the Mathis Lodge. It’s hard to point out a single highlight. The view is sensational. From the room we had you could see the valley and ocean all day. The room itself was wonderfully decorated and spacious. The food and drink on offer were delicious and extremely competitively priced. Thirdly the service was second to none. Fredrick went beyond the call of duty to make us feel welcome and relaxed. I’m just sad we didn’t stay longer. One small word of advice is that I wouldn’t necessarily use the lodge as hub to go and explore. It makes a lot more sense to stay there and enjoy the resort, just my 0.02$

I stayed at Mathi's Lodge for two nights over the weekend. As my friend told me that this place is a piece of heaven on earth, I decided to went solo. After a 25 minutes ride on the shuttle pick up truck, with a rocky and steep road along the way, I finally get to see what kind of beauty that I'm gonna immerse in. It was self-explanatory breathtaking, the view, the lodge, the sound of the purest nature that surrounds you at the top of the hill, something that can't be easily forgotten. I spent to peaceful nights at a Jacuzzi Villa, enjoyed delighthful dinners at their restaurant, took a relaxing swim on their serene pool, and was taken care of by Frederic and the staffs with their best-in-class service. This place is a must-visit for you to be able to hear your own inner voice, immersing yourself in a solid tranquility. I'll certainly go back again!!

Amazing place to be hidden with breathtaking view nestled in mountains, in oh such calm atmosphere, cozy apartments, and lovely rest. The pool was great as well, maybe as a suggestion the salty water would be more suitable than chlorine that would suit more to natural vibes. We enjoyed calm restaurant too, maybe there might be more options for vegetarian/vegan meals. Everything was great, we enjoyed it a lot.

my husband and I spent 3 nights at mathis lodge amed from 4-7 march.. after having a bad experience in another hotel in amed .. we chose to spent 1 day in mathis lodge and ended up by extending our stay for 2 more nights. The hotel has an amazing view, mountain sea ..even better than the pictures. The room was nice, clean, simple concrete decoration and again you can see the view from your bed, spectacular. The food was tasty, I highly recommend the seafood pasta. Frederic the owner was there to welcome us, with a nice energy every day. if you are planning to visit amed, mathis lodge is the best by far. you won’t be dispointed

The staff is perfect, the hotel very clean (difficult to find so clean in all bali at that time). Rooms have so nice decoration (and mine a jacuzzi). I will be back this summer for sure!!! The style is very unique in all the island.

We visited on 2-4 march for silent day holiday with big group, we are about 17 peoples booked separately (diferrent date) and went there separated also, we didn’t mentioned about we are group. As the manager named Frederick the one whom have to coordinating everything to each guests, but he didn’t given us the details about the shuttle’s schedules at beginning. I booked for my own thru my husband, for family 3A+2C (6yo&9yo) we booked family lodge, and i was the first one booked on my group, directly thru WA. The manager was chat with my husband as they are both french. I thought the manager will tell us everything as we all blank don’t know anything about the shuttle with schedules when we already fixed, if he informed atleast we can try to following the schedule without waiting, as we live 3,5hours distance from amed by car with kids. But that information we just got when we already in karang asem at 13:20 (very last minute) and the manager just said we have choices to choose the pick up at 15:30-16:30-17:30 at vienna before that time already full, how can the 1st one booked get the latest service? Especially we have to wait about an hour, sorry that not my thing, at the end we decided to prepared my car to passed that difficult track to go up, fyi my car is not a truck, so this for me wasn’t informative. When im arrived, i was complained to the manager but he seems DGAF bout my critisized. 1st impression is bad to him. Ok it’s not a big deal. But this have to be cleared information to your guest since it is fix booking. 2nd case, the manager give us the room #13 when we going there, the track was horrible for my kids even for me, really not kids friendly. 3rd, i was complaining about the 2nd room doesn’t look nice as on the website, the main room is perfect, and the manager facing my complained so aggresive and arrogantly, he answered “well this is amed”, oh c’mon dude! We are your guests gimme some respect, we paid, not free and it’s expensive for amed area, so it’s our right we wants the best for us! He really make me pissed at arrival. 4th. After complained we upgraded to moved to family room with pool (add charge 800K/night), all is same as room #13 but have pool. To be honest after all services i have to accepted, it’s way unbalance with the price i paid. 5th, i asked the waitress to make my coffee, i received my cup of coffee included legs of insect inside my cup (this i forgot to tk a picture). 6th, my last breakfast in here i got my omelette with another insect as topping (this one i pictured it). All this ruined my holiday mood, and badly all my group also got their own complained. Sadly i have to pay so expensive for this bad moment. I don’t recommend this place, this place winning the view but the service is totally garbage. Amed have many beautiful hotels with affordable prices, they can give humble services, you can pay expensive atleast you enjoy and feel like home, so thank you to make me feel “WON’T COME BACK AGAIN” to mathis lodge. Dear Meliza, Your primary complain is about our free shuttle provided to help our guest who don t feel like coming up the road going up to the hotel, we know it to be challenging, and this is why I send multiple message to every guests to organise and coordinate all the arrivals. You actually provide a picture of a part of our conversation with your husband. He will certainly translate it for you, I do it quickly now anyway….. On your side, the day after tomorrow, thank you to share with me your location or your expected arrival IN ADVANCE to coordinate the shuttle. Do not hesitate to contact me should you need more info. Kind regards, frederic…..As you never contacted me in advance, on the day of arrival, as prescribed in the message, I did, to update you on our schedule as some other guests followed my prescription and advised me first, I used that timing to coordinate all the others. Should you have been the first one to advise me on your position or arrival time, all the other guests would have followed your schedule. I believe you had all information needed, and my last message invites you to contact me for more info, quite clear I believe, but you chose not to follow up on my advises. And indeed, I wasn t ready to be blamed for your decisions. What you took for aggressivity and arrogance was just a human defensive answer to an unfunded attack. Respect has to be mutual in this world. Soon after checked in you asked to change room because the position of the family room we allocated for your family (one of only two we have, the other one being just next to it) wasn t comfortable enough for you. I can understand as we are in the mountain and some of the walking tracks between the lodges are not straight forward and winds around the mountain. This actually makes the beauty and appeal of this hotel for most of our guests who likes to feel the mountain and nature around them. Apparently that wasn t what you were looking for. For this next complain of yours, I am sorry you feel the room doesn t look as nice as on the website, and we are going to address this issue immediately. Having said that, on trip advisor, I recall having seen a quite accurate photo of the children room from a guest, I will be happy to provide it to you. When I prepare a trip somewhere with my family, I usually inform myself by any means necessary. I recall you say that your children didn t want to be in that room, but the morning after at breakfast, in front of your husband, your children told me how much they loved their room, which is usually the return we have from all children. It is not normal that there are insects or anything in your food, and we would have change anything directly if we had been aware, but now as you are exaggerating the situation, I might have some little things to add. It was very windy those two days, and what you call now an insect leg in your coffee was in fact a piece of the alang alang roof that fell into it, as you said to the waiter the morning after. On your picture of the omelet, it is definitely an insect, but seeing the already half eaten omelet I cannot believe it came to your table like that but certainly fell down while you were eating, again, the restaurant is entirely open and it was very windy, but officially if you had asked, we would have change it straight away, but your waiter on that day confirms me you never said anything about it at the time. let s put everything back in perspective. We are an hotel, and have a restaurant, all your family, 3 adult and 2 children have spent 265000rp in drinks only in the restaurant for the whole stay, 2 nights, because I closed my eyes, going against hotel regulation, and I let you cook in your room, you came with rice cooker, and enough equipment to cook also chicken and pasta in the room during your stay. You were talking about respect, it would have been nice and respectful of you to let us know about that, only for security reason as the whole hotel is made of natural element, with alang alang roof in the lodge as well, and the fire risk is humongous. As I discovered your kitchen setting well after you arrived, I preferred to let you have your own way not to make the situation worst as I could see already that you had a personal problem with me, even though most hotel would have regulations about bringing your own food and wine on their premises. Also, on the picture of the bill you provided, and if you compare it to the first one, you can see I cancelled the extra breakfast of your nanny and so, let 1 person stay free of charge in the hotel, at my own expense. The lack of respect you had for us is of course not the kind of guests we usually welcome and certainly not the style of guests who can assess the services of a hotel. As you mentioned your group, most of them were very respectful and pleasant, but I would also like to mention one member which had to have the visit of the security during the evening of Nyepi, as the sound and light level wasn t respected for that important balinese day. They also went around me and persuade my driver to pick up a gallon of water, (as we sell a great local water and as many hotel, usually don t allow outside food and drink) with my truck, they also nearly ruined the jacuzzi in their room as we found it full of cigarette hash the day after and had to re initialize it. I understand they also don t like me as I am the guardian of the standard in this hotel and I wasn t too happy with this attitude. You mention the price 6 time in your comment, so I suppose this is in fact the real trouble. Your room cost was 185euro for the 2 nights, for 5 people, with a private pool, we don t believe it is so costly according to the uniqueness of the style and situation of this hotel. This is definitely not 5 stars price and the lack of service you are talking about is in fact an unreasonable expectation on your side. Nevertheless, I am very sorry you blame the hotel because we didn t get on, but again we are a hotel and we cannot change our ways and break our rules for every single client. You definitely were not in the right place. You probably should have rented a private villa for Nyepi, you would have had the possibility to cook your own food and have all the personal service you deserved. Regards
