We have had an enjoyable and relaxing week on this beautiful island. I was a bit concerned about the long transfer but finally everything went quite smoothly. The island has the most extraordinary house reef, corals are in good health and full of marine life. While we were there, one side of the island especially near the main jetty is very difficult to explore because of big waves, so we always snorkeled from our water villa to the jetty near the dive center. Our water villa is very nice and comfortable. I love the design of the spacious half-open bathroom with 2 showers and a bathtub. The housekeeping staff is very efficient. Whenever we leave the room for breakfast, when we come back the room has always been cleaned. All the staff are so kind and friendly. The food at the buffet restaurant is quite good and we equally enjoyed our drinks at the bar. It is not a big hotel so we always find ourselves in the same place, but for 1 week it is fine. And we are here mostly for the big house reef. Overall a very positive experience and would recommend the hotel. Big thank you to all the hard-working, kind, and smiling staff who make our holiday an enjoyable moment to remember.

Hotel's Favourite
Firstly I have to say WOW! Havodda is just stunning! A piece of paradise that we’ve been dreaming about since coming home. It was every bit as good as we hoped and more! We stayed 9 nights (Nov 8-17), flew direct in economy with BA from Heathrow. Our package was full board but were upgraded to all Inclusive by Trailfinders for booking early. We got a decent deal that sadly we probably won’t get close to again because of Covid times. Our first time in The Maldives, so bear in mind although we’re well traveled we have nothing to compare this to in these parts. I consider us middle of the road travellers, usually go for cosy 3-4 star hotels and definitely aren’t “butler types”. The journey: As others have already said it’s a mission getting here, but is it worth it? 100% absolutely! Taking us roughly 16 hours after taking off on the way out and 18 hours on the way back. But first let’s talk about Male International Airport. This place is awful, one of the worst airports we’ve been to. Expect queues, chaos, pushing in, people kicking off about it and staff just to shrugging their shoulders and that’s even before getting into the terminal. I realise there’s security risks here but it can be done much better than THIS because we’ve seen it. This is a luxury destination but this airport is anything but. Just prepare yourselves. Right, that’s my only moan out of the way (Obviously nothing to do with Amari though). Make sure you fill in the online UMIGA declaration within 96 hours of your flight both directions and have the QR Code handy on your phone (I did a screen grab) they will ask to see it at passport control. We also had our NHS Covid pass but weren’t interested in that. Don’t stress about the visa on arrival (if you’re from The UK) it’s just a passport stamp, doesn’t cost anything, and nobody even mentions it. Once we collected our bags there was an Amari staff member waiting for us, we had to wait 5 mins for another couple to turn up. Then we were taken to check-in for the next flight and had it all handled for us, a nice touch. Sadly this was not the case on the way back when we were basically dumped at a queue, with no other info. Another couple who were from Amari went straight through but we ended up drawing the short straw and queueing for an hour to get into the building. Amari management take note; this part of the holiday experience needs some work, it’s still part of our stay until we’re actually on the international flight, so I am judging this as so. Back to the journey in. We were taken to the lounge, there were free drinks and food but by the time we changed into shorts and freshened up in the toilets we were literally told our flight was boarding. So with a quick sip of our diet cokes we were off again. Our next flight was 1hr 10m on a much smaller plane. Great views of many islands the whole way. When we landed it we were told it was the first of two stops, luckily this was Havodda’s. Into the tiny terminal building and there was another Amari staff member waiting for us. He directed us to a golf buggy, we didn’t collect our luggage, they took care of it. There was some waiting around because there were 16 people going on the speed boat to the island and it took two buggies to get everyone there. Life jackets were given out which was good to see. Check in: We arrived on Havodda after a very speedy 15 min boat ride, in heavy rain which was a shame but it still looked like paradise. After a refreshing drink and a cold towel we filled in a couple of bits on a form. Then we were taken to our room in a golf buggy, I’m not sure if this still happens if it’s not raining but saved us getting wet. It was all so easy. Ayaz our host gave us the room tour. Our room: WOW! This was honestly the nicest room we’ve ever stayed in. Absolutely superb. Large luxurious bedroom with a spectacular outside bathroom. And this was a standard beach villa without a pool. We needed nothing else and we slept so well here. After exploring the whole island we realised our Beach villa 322 was in a fastastic location (for us) right next door to the Dive Centre and very private (and quiet), with a bush covered walkway down to a superb stretch of beach. You have your own sunbeds on the villa terrace (which you can position as you please) which means nobody needs to get up early to reserve them… although unbelievably people still do that around the pool. No idea why. There’s plenty of USB and British plug sockets in the room. No need for adapters if coming from the Uk. We were on the Sunrise side, which is much the better side of the island in our opinion. If you’re going for a beach villa make sure you get one on The Sunrise side. The Sunset side is suffering from sea erosion. And in places there’s hardly any beach at all, with quite a few sandbags to tackle this sea erosion. The sea is rougher on that side too and for the 9 days we were there there was only one day calm enough to snorkel on that side, the red flag was almost ever present and it was generally pretty breezy too. I’m sure the water villas are great but I wouldn’t have enjoyed snorkelling off the steps there at this time. The staff: Without exception absolutely lovely, everyone has a “hello!” or “morning!” in passing and they honestly can’t do enough for you. Also compared to other hotels we’ve been there seems to be enough staff and you’ll never wait more than a minute or two for anything. The service across the board was first class. Unobtrusive but was there as soon as you needed it. Just how we like it. Food: The best all inclusive food we’ve had anywhere. I’ve seen comments on here about the food being bland. I just can’t understand how anyone could think that! It’s just not that type of food. And even if it’s not spicey enough there’s always all manner of chillis, sauces and condiments to spice it up or give it some extra flavour. The selection is decent without being huge, but is high quality food. Theres a heavily slanted Asian feel (unsurprising considering where it is) We never got bored of it once and always looked forward to meal times. There were always curries, usually noodles, soups, several meats, fish, breads, potatoes of some kind, vegetables, salad, cakes, pastries and fruit. There’s several cooking stations which changed daily and there was usually a loose theme (without it ever being formally announced). Everything was clearly labelled. Bar / drinks: A good selection of drinks overall for standard all inclusive, a couple of beers Carlsberg or Lion (which is Sri Lankan). A fair few cocktails and spirits. We were never refused anything and were happy with our choice. If you’re debating about whether it’s worth going all inclusive over full board, it all depends how much alcohol you’ll drink and how much the upgrade would cost. On our first night we accidentally ordered the bill, thinking we had to sign for the drinks and our 3 small beers and two glasses of sparkling wine came to us$51 which is pretty expensive and would’ve soon added up for us if we were full board. There’s also a Premium All Inclusive and from what we could tell there was a free cooking lesson with that (the people we spoke to raved about it to be fair) we didn’t think it would be worth paying the extra for us. After our first day, nobody asked for our room number in the bar(s) or the restaurant, they just seemed to know. Weather: Hot and humid. For sun worshipers the weather wasn’t always the best. It’ll soon become clear why it’s all so lush and green and why the humidity is high. Personally I didn’t mind the frequent heavy downpours, it was good for some snorkelling time too. We had to wait until our third night to actually see a sunset from Thari bar which was a superb experience and highly recommended going there when you can. The weather improved as the week went on, in the last few days I don’t think we had any rain at all. The island: I’ve seen my fair share of spectacular beaches but this will be the benchmark for all future holidays. Absolutely pristine / stunning and despite the number of people of the island it felt verging empty most of the time. I’m not sure where everyone went during the day! Everything was just so well kept. You just can’t stop taking photos, it’s so photogenic! The other guests: A real mix, old, young, couples, a few families (the minority really). Lots of Germans, Brits, Scandinavians, Asians and a few Russians but not many. It was actually a really nice mix and everyone was there to chill out. This is a very low key island so any rowdy behaviour would really be noticed. But there was none of that at all. Wildlife: Mainly birds, lizards, insects and crabs, nothing at all to worry about. There were also some huge fruit bats flying around the trees, very interesting to watch. Weirdly this time I got badly bitten by mosquitoes, I’m not usually bothered by them, I think this was because of the vegetation at the back of our villa. Best to deet up! I was also fascinated by crabs around the villa pathway and around the island in general. Sealife: I’ll be honest, I’m a nervous swimmer, I can swim but I’ve spent my life avoiding going in the sea in case there’s sharks lurking. So swimming in the sea where there’s 26 types of shark didn’t feel me with confidence. But I have to say I loved it! I just took it easy, the reef starts in the shallows just a few meters off the beach, so there’s no reason to even go out of your depth but you’ll still see loads. I was in the sea at least a couple of hours a day and nothing caused me (or my girlfriend) any problems. Stay out the way of the Triggerfish if you can though, they don’t seem to realise how small they are, or how big you are in comparison. I’d best describe them as irritable and over confident. You’ll see what I mean. By the way, the sharks completely avoid you, so don’t worry about them at all. Just make sure you take some water shoes with you. We saw lots of Black tip reef sharks, a couple of Grey Reef Sharks, a baby Manta Ray, a couple of Eagle Rays, a turtle, an octopus, many many fish including a puffer fish, trigger fish and a large aggressive fish that darts out of the at other fish and scares the living daylights out of you when you’re snorkelling, but they do you no harm. Turtles were in short supply contrary to what we’d heard, but there seems to be one living off to the left of the arrival jetty as you face the sea. Even if you don’t snorkel you will still see loads from the beach or jetty’s, so don’t worry at all, you won’t miss out on anything if you don’t swim. Spa: My girlfriend went to the spa a couple of times and said the treatments were among the best she’s ever had, she came out buzzing after the second one. Not sure what treatments she had but her message to everyone is; go for it it’s worth the money. Apparently if you go in the morning you get more time for your money too. Tipping: if you want to change for tips at reception, they were happy to change my twenties for $1s. There didn’t seem to be any expectation of tips but I found staff really appreciated them and nice things tended to happen when you did. That wasn’t the reason to tip though, these guys work so hard and absolutely deserve it. It didn’t affect service one way or another, which was always first class. But we tipped Shabnaz “our room boy” who was awesome, and he left us a lovely floral surprise one day, including a bottle of Cava. Was so so nice of him. We also tipped the guys at the bars, there’s a tip box there that I gave them money for. Overall: Congrats if you’ve made it this far, i never meant this to go on for so long but there’s so much to say about this fantastic island. This is luxury without being over the top. Absolute bliss away from everything. By day 2 you’ll stop bothering with shoes, day 3 you’ll forget what day it is altogether. And like us you’ll probably be dreaming of Havodda the moment you leave this little paradise. We will never forget this place and will definitely return given half the chance. Absolutely awesome on every level. Just book it, you won’t regret it. Iain, London.

Putting aside its twelve-syllable name in favour of simply ‘Havodda’, this island is a little slice of paradise in almost every conceivable way. tl;dr this is a wonderful island with perfectly-pitched understated luxury, offering excellent facilities, a breathtaking, easily accessible reef and staff who provide an exemplary service that is a credit to themselves and the resort. We should first deal with the elephant in the room, which is the distance from the capital, Male. Havodda, located less than a degree from the equator, can only be reached via a 1 hour 15 minute internal flight on a Dash 8, as it is too distant for Maldivian Air Taxi seaplanes to make the trip. Flights to Kaadehdhoo are spaced several hours apart, so you may well find yourself in for a long wait at Male after your international flight lands. Landing on the BA flight in the morning, we had to wait around three hours before the internal flight, though others I spoke to at Havodda had been rushed onto a flight that left almost immediately. It seems to be a complete lottery as to whether you will be able to catch a connecting flight soon after arriving at Male or not, so it’s best to be prepared for a long wait. On the bright side, you will have access to a pleasant air-conditioned lounge at the domestic terminal at Male, which offers free wi-fi, comfortable seating and a range of complementary food and non-alcoholic drinks. An NH representative will check you into the domestic flight at the appropriate time and ensure that you are where you need to be when you need to be there. Upon landing at Kaadehdhoo airport, an NH representative will collect your luggage and take you in a golf buggy to the dock at which a speedboat will take you the remaining 15 minutes to Havodda, where a warm welcome awaits from an entourage including a staff member who will provide a WhatsApp contact for any queries you may have during your stay - in our case the lovely Anastassiya. The journey from Europe to Havodda is epic, but worth it. This was my first return to Maldives in nearly twenty years and I came with my wife and eight-year-old daughter, who had not visited before. In years gone by, I visited Kuramathi, which I loved but commercialisation has transformed that island into something I find less-appealing, with two-story villas right on the beach and sky-high prices to cater for celebrity visitors. I was looking for something far more subtle and understated - barefoot luxury catering for real people rather than Instagram opportunists. Havodda meets this brief, especially on the eastern side of the island where a largely unbroken tree-line marks the edge of the beach for unspoiled views. Excellent service is always available from the delightful staff, but thankfully it is not in-your-face or obsequious in the way that some visitors to Maldives now seem to demand. The illusion of the desert island experience is captured well. The atmosphere of the entire island is laid back and easy going. The unwritten dress code is relaxed and informal. Don’t show up to the restaurant in your swim wear, but throw on a loose cover-up and nobody will bat an eyelid. Shoes are surplus to requirements as sand, tile and decking make up all the floor surfaces you will encounter on the island. I remained blissfully barefoot until I boarded the return flight. There are two distinct sides to the island. The shore of the eastern, sunrise side is close to the edge of the reef and as such the sea may be choppy, whereas the sunset side faces a large lagoon with idyllic, still water bordered on both sides by two sets of water villas. There are rocky areas under the water on all sides of the island and as should be expected there are bits of broken coral in the sand. I have read suggestions that water shoes are required to avoid injury, but unless you decide to walk on the reef (which of course you should not) I can only say that you would need to blunder around like an angry hippo for your bare feet to come to any harm. However, during my visit in February 2024, it was clear that fairly extensive movement of sand will be required to restore badly-eroded areas of beach, especially at the north of the western (sunset) side of the island, where unsightly sandbags litter the shore and some villas sit high above the beach where the sand has washed away. It is my understanding that work is beginning around March 2024 to rectify this, after which I am sure the beach will once again be picture-perfect. The house reef at Havodda is extensive, healthy, vibrant and easily accessible. Official snorkel channels are located at the arrival jetty and the dive centre, and also at the end of the northern string of water villas. At high tide, if the sea is calm, you can also swim directly over the reef to reach the drop-off from the sunrise side. Fins and masks can be borrowed from the dive centre for the duration of your stay. The best snorkelling I found was at the northern tip of the island, marked by a post sticking out of the water visible from the dive centre jetty. Here, you are all but assured of sea turtles, three species of reef shark, eagle rays and a huge variety of fish. Swimming to this point from the channel at the dive jetty takes around twenty minutes with fins, but be aware that there can be a strong current especially if the sea is rough so know your limits. The northern tip can also be reached by swimming directly towards the post from the sand bar at the north of the island at high tide but the water above the reef is shallow in places so this should only be attempted on calm days to avoid contact with the coral. On the interior of the island, lovely sandy paths bordered with mature planting providing welcome shade from the blaze of the equatorial sunshine join the various different areas of the resort. The entrances to each of the beach villas are well separated by foliage, giving a pleasant feeling of isolation from your neighbours despite the fact that the dwellings are in fact relatively close together. Reception, the main restaurant, the main bar and pool, the spa, shop and kids club are all clustered at the south of the island. Well-appointed and consistently spotless bathroom facilities including showers with fluffy towels are provided between the restaurant and the bar. Food in the main restaurant is consistently excellent. Each evening meal is themed, with Chinese, Indian, Maldivian and Mexican nights standing out. Freshly-grilled fish is always available, and while there was not an obvious selection of child-friendly options, I spotted the chefs happily preparing special requests for children (including my own) on several occasions. A dazzling array of delicious dishes are available, and you will only spot repetition if you stay for more than a week. The staff in the restaurant are outstanding, always welcoming guests with a smile and swiftly helping them to find a table. I must make a special mention of Dewi, who took my fussy-eater daughter under her wing and made mealtimes a delight. Similarly, sous-chef Pradeep is a wonderful gentleman who genuinely cares that guests enjoy their food, taking time out to come to the table and personally check on my family and others while also bringing delicious morsels straight from his hot-plate. Bravo to both these people, it is service like this that will keep guests coming back to Havodda. Mentions must also be made of Manush, who is always ready to take orders and bring them to your table at the breakfast egg station when even a moderate queue develops, and big character Mikhail whose infectious humour especially with children is a delight. We splashed out for the valentines day beach barbecue, and I was bowled over by the vast selection of food presented in addition to the regular service going on in the main restaurant. Freshly cooked lobster, steak and prawns were joined by a phenomenal offering of sushi, starters and deserts spanning five or six tables arranged in the sand. A truly memorable experience as a result of a staggering effort to put on a great occasion. The Thari bar offers an extensive and generous range of beverages, served by highly professional and genuinely friendly staff. Whether you park yourself at the bar or sit one one of the many spots under the roof or around the pool, you will never wait long before someone has taken your order and a drink is in your hand. While some impatient guests waved staff over, this was completely unnecessary. It was clear that the staff were watching attentively from a distance at all times and would rapidly make themselves available if guests had empty glasses. This is how it should be done, and the service in the Thari bar should be a model for other resorts. I must make special mention of Febin, Mahfazur, Kartiki, Shipaaz and Karim, who went above and beyond to offer hospitality and friendly conversation to me and my family. We will remember you all. My daughter spent a lot of her time in the kids club, run by the lovely Runina, who doesn’t appear to ever have a day off. Normally, my daughter will spend a few hours in the kids club at a resort before labelling it ‘kids jail’ and vowing not to return. Not this time. The personal service offered by Runina to children in her care is second to none, and my daughter was always keen to spend time with her doing the many activities and crafts. The size of the island means that the kids club is rarely busy so the children get a lot of one-on-one time with Runina, who even takes time to make elaborate personal leaving gifts for children in her care. Well done indeed. I have a handful of other experiences of above-and-beyond service to relate. On one occasion, I was snorkelling with my wife around the arrival jetty. The sea was calm and we had ventured out without fins. As we returned to shore, I was somewhat towing her as she was tired and the security person on jetty above called out to check that she was okay and not in need of assistance. She was fine, but the attention was appreciated. On another occasion, my daughter had been playing with an inflatable log in the pool, and while she was looking elsewhere, the wind had blown it into the sea. By the time she noticed, it was too far out for me to retrieve it. Just moments after I told her it was gone, a member of staff with a walkie-talkie asked if we had lost an inflatable and a few minutes later a dinghy was launched to fetch it despite my protestations that it wasn’t worth the effort. By this time, the current had caught the errant log and it was dipping over the horizon, yet the staff still managed to save it. Perhaps this was more a matter of keeping plastic waste out of the ocean than saving my daughter’s toy, but either way the effort made a lasting impression. I could continue to talk at length about this wonderful island and the lovely people who staff it, but much of what I would say has been said already by others. To me, NH Collection Havodda Maldives Resort represents the best of Maldives as a holiday destination - a beautiful island offering relaxed, barefoot luxury with understated but impeccable service provided by engaged and enthusiastic staff who seem genuinely happy to meet you. I would love to return.

First, the underwater environment was good. You can experience various underwater environments such as turtles, small sharks, and rays. Second, employees are kind and try their best to communicate even if they don't speak the language. Especially, Manji Butler😄😄 lastly, you can experience various things. Fitness center, yoga, snorkeling, etc..

I have never written a review for a hotel before and the Havodda resort compelled me to do so! Just WOW my husband and I have just returned from a week’s holiday and our first trip to the Maldives. The resort was beautiful and complemented by wonderful staff all of whom could not have done more to make our stay more enjoyable. A particular thanks to Munjid who greeted us on arrival and looked after us so well. The food was nothing short of spectacular with Pradeep ensuring everything was to the highest standard and greeting us so warmly. Aman who looked after us by the stunning pool. Every member of the team were warm, welcoming and could not do enough for us to make our stay the most amazing experience. We will definitely be back!

Before you read this review please be aware we have been to the resort 2 years ago in the same villa. So the good points are that it has an amazing house reef that we snorkeled twice a day. The reef is definitely just as good as it was 2 years previously. The bar staff are lovely and do a great job. The restaurant staff do a good job but are way understaffed so you can wait a while to get a wine refilled etc. Food was a big drop in quality from 2 years ago. Salad was sometimes non existent and when it was there was meagre. The accommodation was really showing its age and literally nothing has been done in the intervening 2 years. Glass is blown around the doors and the pool has loads of grout missing. The erosion on the sunset beech is really bad and significantly worse, leaving a massive drop off to the beach from alot of the villas. I was surprised they actually let them out as they are dangerous. We had 3 weeks here and it's not the paradise we had 2 years ago. Lots of children and as it was Chinese New year alot of people arrived to fill the resort. Our host was absolutely rubbish. When we arrived we told him it was our wedding anniversary and needed to book the surf restaurant for 2 days time. They literally did nothing to help us celebrate it One night we awake at 11pm to loud music coming from the staff quarters just behind us. We rang the reception and hey pesto it stopped then started even louder at 2.30am. Again not paradise. So the house reef is the good the rest is the bad and the ugly. It's way over priced , tired and lots of children. Would we go again . NO

At first we would like to thank to best staff NH Collection Havodafor our holiday, as these colleagues made our holiday unforgettable. A great welcome at the reception from Jon who was close to us personally and via whatsapp the whole holiday. The waiters were excellent, special thanks to Shavf, Santosh and also very nice Dewi! The island has beautiful and abundant coral which needs to be well looked after. Unfortunately on our visit we witnessed several times when tourists from China did not respect this natural treasure and were very disrespectful. They threw bottles into the water, killed crabs that were sunbathing on the steps of the water bungalows, stepped on the corals and even tore them. We have told the staff several times, unfortunately there is nothing they can do about it. I would like to warn the hotel management, because when the coral reef and fauna is destroyed, there will be no reason to visit this beautiful place anymore. We tried several times to warn these people that they must not tread on the coral reef in their diving fins and must not throw objects into the water, unfortunately they did not understand us and were rude, this is very sad. As for the hotel services, it is a very good quality 5* hotel, the rooms are cleaned twice a day, always in the morning and evening. Replenishment of the minibar daily. We had the all inclusive premium and there was nothing lacking at all, maybe just adjust the drinks menu from which it was not possible to order a third of the drinks. Activities depend on the weather, unfortunately it rained a lot during our stay, it was impossible to sit on the terrace in the water bungalow because the roof isn't big enough to keep the rain out from under it. The food was great throughout our stay, with every night of the week dedicated to a different theme. We were a little disappointed that compared to other resorts in the Maldives there was no sushi one night, no goldfin tuna tataki for example. We were really looking forward to this as this tuna is very common here. Our stay here was really beautiful, the water bungalows were amazing, the staff was the best and the only thing that spoiled our enjoyment of this amazing place were the tourists from China. We will only be happy to return to this island if we know that the management has taken the appropriate steps to save the island. We hope to see you next time! Lucie & Erik

Really nice hotel, very friendly employees and good service. Our room was always clean and the size was nice. We had an overwater villa. The view was amazing. The food was good and I would try the restaurant "surf". You must pay for it. After a while the normal restaurant "reef" is a little bit boring.

This is our second visit to the island (previous one was 2 years ago) and not much has changed - which is a good thing as still fantastic! We were greeted with a lovely welcome back (see pics) and was great to see some familiar faces (Dada) and Murooj was our brilliant host. I stupidly forgot my phone charger and he helped me out. The staff are attentive, caring, kind…the list goes on. To name a few - Michael, Dewi, Xee in the restaurant and Runina looked after our children in kids club. The food was still of the same excellent standard and Pradeep the sous chef came round regularly to make sure all ok. Our youngest daughter took part in dumpling making lesson with Larisa the executive chef. My favourite omlette was waiting for me every morning (sorry I didn’t catch your name, wasn’t there on last couple of days) Rooms looked after at the same great standard and bar staff brilliant too. There are too many great names to mention! We didn’t manage to snorkel this time but did the previous time so know how great the reef is. Entertainment was fun for the kids and they loved spending all day in the pool aswell as swimming in that gorgeous ocean. We miss the island and all the staff already! Thanks for a great time
