We loved our meals and the manager gave us a tour of the hotel which looks to be worthwhile for a stay sometime. We liked the art deco style, it's been opened up and on a sunny day a garden courtyard would invite you in. The only thing that went against our dining was the unremitting foul language of a...

We were staying at Hawk Rock a few miles down the road and decided to go out for a meal. The pub in Oturehua was nearest but was fully booked so we went down the road to Blacks. What a good decision that was as we got the full tour of the premises to see what an excellent job they...

The night we stayed in Ophir we had no choice for a meal- it was Blacks or nothing. So we didn't have high expectations- but what a great place. We were warmly welcomed by the new (12 weeks) owner and settled into a comfortable and beautifully decorated (for Christmas) room and then had simply great food- the green chicken curry...

Stayed one night here whilst biking the rail trail. Everyone was so friendly and for dinner, the blue cod was superb. The rooms are a bit cosy but it's real country hospitality that makes it a great place to stay.

After a long days ride it was wonderful to stop at Blacks in Ophir for a meal and overnight accommodation. The food was fantastic. Even if you don't think you're a fan, do yourself a favour and try the haggis. Just superb. We also had the seafood chowder and the blue cod was to die for. The owners really do...

After a tough day on the Otago Rail Trail our spirits were immediately lifted when we arrived to stay the night at Blacks Hotel - our host plied us with complimentary cold squash and wet towels. Such a positive welcome was indicative of the establishment - quirky but great fun and warm hospitality. We all really enjoyed our stay.

This art deco gem has well-priced rooms and serves delicious food. Each bedroom is decorated in a different theme. The menu is small, but the portions are huge and great value for money. Local wines are available by the glass. The new owners and their staff are to be congratulated !

Visited with family for a meal. Warm welcome and a nice fire burning. Kids were happy with meals they ordered. Nice food presentation. All the adult meals were good too, and nicely presented. Decent prices. Emersons on tap plus a few other beers. Friendly staff (owners) - I understand they've just taken over the business in the last two months....

The new management of Blacks Hotel are to be congratulated on their service and meals. We stopped at the hotel for a drink and decided to stay for dinner. It was a busy night for fhem (quiz night), yet our meals were provided quite promptly and the waitress/co-owner took time to talk with us and explain the work they were...
