Trip with family & friends (Dushyantha P, who has reviewed the place earlier). It was midday & boiling hot when we reached Mannar Town. To our surprise, Four Tees was much cooler, especially the garden, which was full of trees swaying to the sea breeze. Been here before with a friend to check out the place(though never stayed) in early 2012 when they had just opened for business. None of new rooms have A/C & how we wished they were. Only one A/C room in the old building which also houses the reception & the owners room. Owner Mr. Lawrence, is a very friendly guy, always willing to go that extra mile to assist the guests in any manner they wanted. He's also a person with a wealth of knowledge & experience about the avifauna, especially the Flamingos in Mannar. Unfortunately the time we were there the remaining Flamingos were scattered & were far out to sea. The most notable aspect of the place is their AMAZING FOOD!! The Jaffna style Crab Curry was Highly recommended by earlier guests & it was as good or better than they said. I was given a special Sea Crab Curry as i don't eat the Lagoon Crab & that too was Yummy. The northern specialities like Poori, Iddly & the accompanying dishes were to die for. Simple & basic food but well prepared & very tasty. The only problem we encountered was the shortage of staff during the long holiday period. Apparently the Hindu staff was on leave due to the Sinhalese & Tamil New Year period. All in all it was a great vacation with the mornings spent checking the attractions of Mannar & the early evenings spent lazing & swimming at different beaches in the area & watching the Beautiful Sunset! this is must for any one who goes to Mannar. A Big Thank you Mr. Lawrence. I'll definitely be back!

Went from Colombo via Eluvankulam. 40km stretch thro Wilpattu took us 1 1/2 hrs as the road was in bad condition. Not suitable for cars at the moment. SUVs no problem. Met by Mr.Lawrence who owns Four Tees in Mannar town, cool boxes filled with flaked ice (very important for the Beer) and off to Four Tees. Pictures already shared represent the true nature of the place. Food was very well prepared, service very good, rooms clean (even though they are on the small side). The crab curry that comes at a separate cost is highly recommended. Prawns and Cuttle Fish were also fresh and well prepared. Right now the place is hot (36 C) during day but much more comfortable at night. Since the place is right next to the railway station, travel by train to Four Tees and then by Trishaw around the area is also feasible. Mr Lawrence is a very good guide on places to see, beaches for sea bathing etc. Prices are reasonable.

Very basic rustic place. Only One ac room. Clean. Good meals. However mid meals snacks not available. Proprietor Mr Lawrence good resource on birds and very knowledgeable about vicinity. Good place for heavy duty birders. Large back garden where quite a few birds can be seen. Located just adjacent to Thoddaveli station. If time permits easy to take train from Colombo to Thalaimanner and get down at Thoddaveli Station and walk across to Four Tees

We visited this place from 11-14 January 2019.We have been at this place on many times for migrant avifaunal sightings Besides this location being an environment conducive for sightings access travel is facilitated by train as the station is within close distance to it. The rooms are comfortable for the budget cost incurred. The staff including the owner Mr Lawrence are very courteous and helpful to respond to our needs and the meals comprising seafood and other delicacies prepared in the Jaffna type of cuisine are delicious We recommend this place for birders and folks that want a vacation away from the hustle and bustle of the city locations

This guest house is located on Mannar - Thalaimannar road about 5km from the Mannar town. There are a few Air-conditioned rooms. All others are equipped with a fan. Since Mannar weather is hot, I prefer going for AC rooms. However AC rooms open into a common sitting area with no privacy. Non AC rooms are individually set along a corridor. Comforts in room are average. There is a bed, table and a towel rack.Bed linen clean. Toilets are ok. Lawrence, the owner attends personally to your needs. He keeps you updated about fauna and flora of the area. Food is nice with sea food for every meal. This is a cheaper place to stay if you are not looking for comfort and luxury.

If you want to see birds, go to Thoddaveli, a train-stop in the middle of nowhere between Mannar and Talaimannar. Opposite of the station you'll find the Four Tees Rest Inn. You 'll meet Mr.Lawrence, the owner, who really has a great bird-expertise, knows the area and where to find them. Simply four or five hours in the early morning with him in his tuk-tuk, that's the way to do it. All kind of waterbirds off course (painted stork, spoonbill, different kind of egrets, herons, ducks, grebe etc.), but also a big nest of the great sea eagle, hoopoos in the Dutch fort and rollers and bee-eaters on the wire along the road. Superb.

I could not find the correct phone number to contact Mr. Lawrence on the internet. But I went straight ahead to the home stay. And I was the only guest that day. I received a warm welcome from Mr. Lawrence. And I had a very tasty dinner there too. He offered me a tour for bird watching in Mannar for a very reasonable price. Mr. Lawrence is very knowledgeable and passionate in birds. I am glad about my decision. You can contact with Mr. Lawrence by phone. 071-0444-066 077-8776-820 023-3230-008 The home stay is just right next to Thoddaveli railway station.

A great place to stay for nature watching number of birds was truly amazing. Lawrence and his staff could not have been more charming and did everything to make our stay memorable. The rooms in the garden of the inn were large clean in quiet setting with bottled water on tap. The food was excellent and with the train station nearby access was easy.
