We stayed with the wonderful Thope one night at the end of our trip in August. It was a fantastic experience for us and for our daughters. We had seen the beauty and luxury of the western Cape, driving past all the settlements beside the roads, on our way to our next comfortable destination but wondering all the time what...

We had a short stop over for lunch as part of our study tour. Thope Lekau (or call Mamma) cooked us a very nice lunch and after that, we had a chance to speak to her in which she told us her story of how this B&B was formed and what she had the vision for her and her community....

We had a wonderful experience at the B&B. We travelled with our rental car which could be parked in their garage. Early evening we walked through the area with Mpho and it was a amazing experience. People were very friendly and wanted to greet you and talk to us. Children wanted to dance and do high fives. They are proud...

The Kopanong B&B is a must-visit. Getting an impression of how 80% of South Africa's population is as important as it is fun! Discovering the township with the host in a township tour is something you really shouldn't miss. It's informative and safe going with the owner Thope or her daughter Mpho and what's more it gives you an impression...

According to Wikipedia, kopanong is "a Sesotho word meaning meeting place or where people are invited; the name earmarks unity and seeks to encourage co-operation". This is a perfect name for this wonderful B&B, where we were hosted for 2 nights by the inspirational owner Thope and her energetic daughter Mpho. By running this homestay, the family are doing a...

Thope is a warm, caring and lovely host, she will show you round the township, tell you stories of the apartheid struggle or just talk 'travel' as she has been all over the world. Its a lovely home, with hearty home cooked food, and a welcome into a part of Africa travel than many drive by. Its safe to get...

Kopanong Bed & Breakfast is run by Thope and her daughter Mpho, two energetic and active community members of Khayelitsha township. We had an inspiring and pleasant stay there. We consider visiting a township a 'must' if you want to experience more than just the eloquent and touristic (predominantly white) environments of South Africa. It's more African than most of...

Our friend joked that we were going to the township to get mugged, but our stay was great. From start to finish everyone was helpful and friendly. We travelled to Khayelitsha with a shared taxi - the driver took care to drop us off at the right place, even walking us over the road and introducing us to the lady...

Staying in this small (three guest rooms only) but comfortable bed and breakfast feels more like paying a visit to a family in their home - which you effectively are - rather than staying at your more conventional holiday B&B. My girlfriend and I stayed in a nice, clean, comfortable bedroom with en-suite toilet and shower room. Breakfast is included...

Guests can also relax in the sitting room, read about South Africa, and watch TV or videos. The nutritious breakfast that is offered consists of fruits, yogurts, milk, cold cereals, hot porridge, cooked vegetables or beans, toast and preserves, juice, tea, and coffee. A traditional-style dinner is also available for guests, when arranged in advance. We have a large covered terrace area and also welcome tour groups here for lunch, tea, or cold drinks and snacks.
