The Mahua Kothi Lodge features 12 cottages, each of which is accessed by a spacious private courtyard with shaded seating and traditional stone floor. Interiors include wooden shutters, hand plastered mud walls washed with lime, roughly hewn wooden rafters and handmade pottery roof tiles. Floors are dressed in the locally sourced ‘Katni’ stone. Large wooden puppets adorn the walls while several small alcoves sport arches with geometric tribal patterns in keeping with local trends. A king-sized bed faces an enormous window overlooking a delightful wooded patch. A wide window seat with mattress covers and bolsters in tones of rust and burnt orange contrast delightfully with the vibrant green outside. Each ensuite bathroom features twin hand basins with vintage brass tap fittings placed in front of a glass window covering most of the wall. Bamboo blinds lined with raw silk can be drawn for a view of trees and bamboo thickets as guests ready for safari. The bath tub is lined beside a wall with beautiful ‘Jaali’ work while the step down shower area is provided with a shiny brass bucket and mug in case guests wish to take a ‘bucket bath’, as most rural Indians do. Experience the best of jungle safari at our resort in Bandhavgarh National Park!

This review is about six months overdue. My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights, literally right before (and during the start of it) the world shutting down. The entire stay was incredible. The service was top notch, the drives and views were amazing. We felt like family here! Everyone was super friendly and went out of their way to accommodate us in every way.

Property/Room: The property is impeccably maintained. It is luxuriously rustic - perfect for a safari, where you want to feel like you're "one" with nature, but still want the comforts (and luxuries) of a nice holiday. The property is also eco-friendly, which is one of the reasons we picked this place.

The main lodge had a nice, long porch overlooking the forest, where we enjoyed sipping our gin and tonics and eating delicious snacks (we did wish the drinks were included in the package, but not a big deal).

Our room was a delight! Beautifully furnished and decorated, and very spacious. The bed was comfortable and we slept like babies with the sounds of nature outside (with no fear of any critters getting into our room/bed).

Food: The food was incredible and some of the best we had in India. The chef made these amazing dishes, and even asked us what we'd like and prepared specific dishes just for us!

Drives: Our guide, Raj was incredible. He is such a knowledgeable, nice, and funny person. We were lucky to have him all to ourselves (other people had cancelled). We had 6 drives total, where some days started out with torrential rains. We were extremely lucky to have the PERFECT up close tiger sighting, all to ourselves, on our very first morning! We had several other tiger sightings throughout our stay, but also saw so many other amazing animals as well. We had an amazing breakfast spread every morning during our drives and had the most delicious teas ever. It was always so heartwarming before and after every drive to see friendly waves and smiling faces of the staff welcoming us back or wishing us good sightings.

Above and Beyond Hospitality: We ended up being the only people on our last day due to cancellations (due to COVID) and the staff treated us like royalty. They set up a private and romantic dinner to celebrate our Anniversary on our room patio, and drew a beautiful batch for us with candles and rose petals.

We were very sad to leave this place and return to an unknown reality. We will miss the wonderfully warm hospitality, beautiful scenery and wildlife. Six months later, we still think about our amazing trip often and hope we can return one day. We hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy. Until we meet again, our friends at Mahua Kothi... Namaste!

The day we left Mahua Kothi, many staffers asked me to review them on Trip Advisor. This was also the day when I saw the last part of a movie called Ratatouille. In it, the food critic Gustav writes “ In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment”. What do I say? Do I talk about Karun the naturalist with his genial smile and made sure that we saw, appreciated and enjoyed every inch of the magnificent jungle? Or the smiling Mr Amit Singhvi who made sure we had everything we needed and more? Or the other Amit who magnificently organized everything? Or chef Mukesh and his team who cooked food so close to home including the lip smacking jungle breakfast on the car bonnet? Or made sure to pack sandwiches for our return journey? Or the staff who laid out a warm water bath with divine smelling salts on the last day? My special praise is however reserved for Munshi ji who served us our meals. I cannot think of another person in my life who has served love in lieu of food. Mahua Kothi is paradise nestling in Bandhavgarh. Go there to get a slice of heaven.

We traveled as a family of 3 to Taj Mahua Kothi, we have been to Banjar tola(Kanha) and Pashan Garh(Panna) before.

Very silent and calm place with a lot of light and greenery around. This was our first visit after pandemic do we were a little sceptical about the places.

Amit who manages the place ensured we get our all questions answered to feel secure about the stay and travel.

Kartikey, or naturalist cum friend ensured we get two sightings in our two drives that's a 100% strike rate. He has a thorough playful understanding of Bandhavgarh as a jungle.

Ajit our Chef pretty much served everything we asked for even if it ment making things tasteful without access to all the spices and ingredients from the market.

You must try Bamboo Achaar, these guys make pickle of anything and everything.

Bhola & Ram, our Buttler's ensured we enjoy our lunch and dinners at different from the regular places with a lot of fire arrangements to keep ourselves warm in the open.

Ensure you get to have dinner arrangements at your porch and terrace.

After our stay of 3 days we proceeded to rewa and while coming back we asked if we could have a lunch there and team was helpful enough to accommodate us for lunch as they don't usually entertain non resident guests.

A must visit place I must say!

They are not at all hospitable, flexible or accommodating with guests. Their prime focus is to extract as much money as possible. Once you have paid the amount, then they show their true colours. They even charge you for the services which they never provide. They over charged us and then brought the figure down to show that they have offered discount. They think we are fools. They are big time liars and touts. They charged us for 2 days Safari and when the weather itself was bad and raining, they refused to refund the amount. This is impractical and unethical. You can get safari vehicles for Rs. 4500 but they charged us Rs. 18,000+18% taxes. Their safaris are useless and forget about sighting a tiger. They will just show you pug marks of a tiger and fool you that the tiger just passed from this place or some other unbelievable / useless story. For the Safari breakfast, they charges you 1800+taxes and in return serve you with boiled eggs, sandwiches, aloo paratha and tea. What a joke it was!! We took an all inclusive package but they charge you extra for high tea, which is not fair. Food quality was average and nothing great. It was not at all worth the money spent! I will never return back or recommend this waste property to anyone. We did a mistake by opting for this property. Simply Useless!! Taj Group should really consider their tie-up with this property.

The best thing about Mahua Kothi is the ever courteous staff. They will make you feel at home. Starting from the check-in till check-out this place is ever welcoming. Reaching the location is not a problem thanks to both Apple and Google maps.

Don’t be fooled by the rustic cottages, they’re full of luxury from the inside. Linen, toiletries and overall feel of the cottage is super rustic and luxurious!

Food is limited but only because they cater for a small group of guests. But you ask for it and the chef is more than obliged to cater to your needs. Starting from Khichadi for the kids to fried chicken to spaghetti to paani poori! You name it they have it.

Jungle safari was fun, despite us spotting the tiger only once. Our naturalist was super knowledgeable and ever gracious to answer our questions.

I can go on and on but I’ll just stop here. It was an amazing experience and was made wonderful because of the staff.

Thank you for the memories.

We had an amazing time in Taj Mahua Koti, Bandhavgarh. All aspects of the trip right from planning, to transportation, stay, food, safaris and the health protocols were taken care of exceptionally well. The services of the staff, butlers, naturalists and the chefs were truly reflective of the Taj hospitality. Daily briefings on the activities, food preferences and the surprise dinner arrangements made it all the more exciting. Such luxury in the middle of the forest is something that even the best of African safaris don’t offer. Our special thanks to:

a. Amit, Rajkumar, Chef Ram Swaroop, and all the other staff at Mahua Koti;

b. Naturalist Harshvardhan Singh who gave us valuable insights about the animals, birds, insects and trees of the forest. We were also lucky to spot tigers, wild animals and birds from close distance multiple times during our safaris, thanks to the excellent knowledge and experience of Harsh and guides.

Overall, it was a welcome break for us from the difficult covid situation. We are thankful to each one at the Taj Mahua Koti who made this trip memorable and special to us. Please pass on our sincere appreciation to all of them. We would definitely recommend the property to anyone who wishes to explore the national parks of Madhya Pradesh.

Our stay at Mahua Kothi couldn’t have been better. The lodge is exceptionally beautiful and the service is even better. The experience of hospitality at Taj is completely different as the staff and the property have so much to give and add to the whole wildlife experience.

Mr.Amit the Lodge Manager was extremely warm and made sure we were at ease after the long journey.Chef Ajit’s culinary brilliance made every meal of ours exceptional I must say, he knew just want we really wanted.Mr. Vishnu made our stay and everything else so hassle free and really comfortable. Our talks with Mr. Bhola in the dining hall were a lot of fun too.

The safari next day with Mr.Raj the Head Naturalist was a amazing experience, our motive was to enjoy the jungle’s beauty and we certainly did.The modified safari jeep was really comfortable and so was the lovely bonnet breakfast. The team at Taj is extremely sensitive to the environment and do their best to preserve it as well.Even the orientation with with the Naturalists Raj and Kartikeya were really interactive and knowledgeable.

We can’t wait to visit Mahua Kothi soon!

If you want to be close to nature away from the hustle bustle of modern life, this is the place to visit. It's a 12 cottage resort spread over 45 acres situated in the buffer zone of the Tiger Reserve, with the big cat and it's relatives paying visit from time to time. Apart from the location the service and hospitality makes you feel at home and makes you yearn to stay longer. The team led by Brijesh makes your stay wonderful, chef Rahul and team bring you the most unassuming yet delicious food you've ever had and to top it off, the butlers (Munshi, Rajkumar, Nilesh) are full of energy and stories that keep you engaged and taken care of. We'd like to give special shout out to our butler Nilesh who made it a stay worth remembering for our lives. Last but not the least, Debashish, our naturalist took us birding and gave us the opportunity to appreciate nature in its entirety and true beauty. His knowledge and expertise of the wild is awe inspiring. The customary double hand wave goodbye and smiling faces of the entire team is the truest testament of the care, courtesy and comfort that we'll forever hold dear in our hearts.

We, group of 8 family members, stayed at Maha Kothi for 3 nights, end of Jan,2024. This was the first time majority of us had stayed in a Taj Safari property and we were simply blown away by the warmth and service of the people there.

We were welcomed by all the primary staff on arrival. Chef Rahul, Sanat and Ramswarup took care of all our dietary needs and pampered us with delicious dishes. We were surprised with awesome birthday cakes as 3 of us celebrated birthdays during our stay there.

Keshu, Pramod, Munshi and Bhola were the butler team assigned to help us and were there every time we needed anything. We had 4 kutiyas and the housekeeping staff did a great job of cleaning, maintaining, drawing baths etc. They were our invisible helping hands. Our rooms were decorated to mark our birthdays.

We were provided hot water bottles and blankets for our morning safari which was welcome as it was quite chilly. Our naturalists were Anurag and Priyanka and it was very evident that they were quite knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the area. Although, we didn’t spot any tigers, we spotted other animals and birds and it was an enjoyable safari each time.

A few of us used the SPA facility for massages and the local masseuse were really good. Kanchan ( front desk) and Brijesh (manager) coordinated it.

The campus is serene and we spent some hours relaxing in the veranda, playing games by the fireplace. Each night, the dinner was set up in an outdoor area that was kept a surprise.

This really was highlight of our stay.

Many thanks to all the staff for making out stay memorable!! Special thanks to Brijesh for providing us with extra car for our journey back to Jabalpur.
