This remote corner of the Czech Republic seems to attract very few visitors so the Hotel Steiger was very quiet. The hotel is in a fairly faceless modern building, with the reception on the first floor up a concrete stairway. However, the young lady who greeted us was very welcoming. Her English was limited, but she was able to explain everything to us. She also ordered us a taxi which turned up on time. The rooms are large and comfortable, although they were very warm after a hot sunny day. The lack of air-conditioning was compensated for by the provision of a large fan, which worked well. The restaurant was kept open late just for us and we had a good meal. Breakfast was fairly basic, but included freshly cooked eggs and ham. All this at a real bargain price. What a shame that all the effort is not being rewarded by more visitors.…
Hotel Steiger (located some 2 mins walk from city centre) offers comfortable rooms at reasonable price, and although I have never slept as a local person there, no of my many foreign customers never complained about the accomodation, rather the opposite. Staff is helpful and speaks quite well English and German. I can altogether recommend Hotel Steiger to any traveller. Tip for the people who consider the town as „fairly uninterested“ as stated in the previous review – try to climb the charming Cvilin Hill (that is easily accessible by car as well) – you will definitely change your mind :)
Nearest station is Krnov Civilin is 15 minutes walk and Krnov main station about 30 minutes. There is no lift and the reception/restaurant/bar are on the first floor. A quiet location in this pleasant small town. I stayed two nights and was one of three guests on the first night and the only guest the second night. Not much English spoken, but friendly staff and English and other language menus available for dinner and breakfast. I ate in the restaurant on arrival which was fine and breakfast cooked dishes were prepared to order. The room was clean and spacious but only white vertical blinds meant the room was very light from 04.00.
Location wise, fairly central, if you do come by train use Kronv Cvilin station which is 5 to 10 minutes walk. The main station would take you well over 20 minutes. Not the most spectacular looking hotel from the outside. It sits above a big gym and you need to venture up to the first floor to reach reception. The place was somewhat quiet when I got there, a note on reception to see staff from the restaurant to check in. Room was OK, plainly furnished. Beds a little uncomfortable with nylon sheets and duvet covers. Shower tray in bathroom seemed to have problems in draining way. Fortunately it was deep enough to collect everyone, but I guess if you wanted a long shower you might end up flooding the bathroom. So very much average for the price. Its not a tourist hotspot and the town itself is fairly uninteresting.…
