I would not recommend this place at all stay at the riverside resort next door or just rent a place in Carmel 30/40 minutes away. This was one of the worst experiences of my life I have had (besides the shanty hostel in Mexico but...More

This time of the year the Steelhead runs start, Big River, etc, I think it's all barbless hooks, catch & release though. Also OK trout fishing but to tell you the truth I wouldn't go there for that, but rather head for the foothills and Sierras, where it's great for trout (10+ varieties), steelhead Kokani, etc.
In Big Sur, I'd surf fish or go out on a boat. There are several charters that go out there. Rockfish and Ling Cod (delicious) and plentiful.
