Nestled in a spot ideal for relaxation and family entertainment, Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun is celebrated for its vast amenities such as water parks and varied dining, making it a hit among families. However, some guests have noted the location can feel isolated with limited sun in certain areas. While the service receives applause for its professionalism and friendliness, the serenity of stays is occasionally marred by noise disruptions.
Room experiences vary, with some praising the modernity and cleanliness, and others pointing out maintenance and noise issues. The value proposition has been questioned due to unexpected fees, yet the overall cleanliness is lauded. The atmosphere teeters between vibrant and tranquil, offering diverse experiences.

Detailed Reviews
We had a fantastic stay with our 7&9 year old boys. We stayed in a DC luxury jr suite Swim out. As Diamond club, our butler Gabriela made our reservations as soon as we got there (I told her we wanted to eat at 6pm, and the restaurants we Wanted to try and 20 min later I received our dinner itinerary at 6pm across the week). She and Israel were incredible! No one we spoke to had any trouble getting in to any restaurants accept maybe zen for the cooking show-but if you wanted to go in just for their delicious food, it wasn’t a problem. The nightly shows and entertainment had our kids dancing and having the time of their lives! The water park (although not even finished) was super fun. Barely any lineup at any time throughout the week, so we only spent an hour each day there as the boys would do each slide a couple times and then want to Head back to the pools! Service was top notch, rooms were cleaned promptly each day and when we had a glass break in our room they were there in literally minutes to clean it. We couldn’t be happier with our experience! I can only imagine how incredible this resort will be in another 6 months as it’s only been open for 2! Side note- if you don’t kids or are planning a quiet vacay AWAY from your own Kids go to a different resort, as this is a kids paradise, and full of them! Also, if you are “beach people” who LOVE the ocean and swimming in it know this entire area of beach isn’t the nicest.
It is swimmable, just not as pretty as some. Certainly not the hotels fault, but worth mentioning for people who love the beach.

To anyone considering booking this hotel in Dec 22/Jan 23
It’s a beautiful resort that just opened on December 20th and the food and staff are fantastic!
They are in the “pre opening” stage (they are not advertising this) so the entire hotel is not open. The large water park is not open and is sitting behind construction wall as all the slide pieces are stacked on top of each other and not assembled. The kids water park is functioning near the pools
And beach.
There are portions of the resort under construction as well as the grounds.
The staff are wonderful and the service is great. If I knew that the resort would still be in “pre-opening” at this time with the large water park closed I would have probably booked elsewhere given the cost of this trip.
The bowling alley and fitness amenities are open. A lot of recreation areas (and rooms) are still very dusty from construction but staff are working through this and doing the best they can. Room service doesn’t seem to be functioning either especially in evening hours.
This resort will be top notch they just need to finish construction, work on staffing and continue with their construction cleaning in most resort areas.
Happy Travels!

We had a GREAT experience!
We arrived on an early flight, so we did have a wait for our room….but, that’s where the exceptional experience began.
Upon check-in, Rafael, our butler, met us. He escorted us to lunch at Nibbles out by the pool, and had staff quickly clean off a table for us to have a bite for lunch, and the burgers and guac there were great!
He immediately set us up on WhatsApp to communicate with him and our night butler, Raheem. After lunch, we messaged him asking where we could change to start enjoying the pools. He met us and showed us a private hospitality room that we could keep our belongings in, that would be locked until our room was ready.
Once the room was ready, we were stunned with it! The room was nice, but the private swim out pool on the 5th floor exceeded our expectations!
We used our pool to watch the nightly shows, enjoy night swims and have the best views of the resort and ocean.
Our favorite dinner meals were at Hunter, the steakhouse, and Zen, the hibachi grill. The burger food truck and Grazie for lunch were great too.
Diamond Club had top shelf options at the bar off of the lobby, and we used that quite a bit for drinks, and it wasn’t ever crowded. They were also happy to fill our large yeti cups with whatever we wanted the entire stay.
My kids only used the water park one day for about an hour, but we did enjoy the lazy river. We didn’t use a tube, because the resort tubes were all in use. But we saw plenty of families that had purchased tubes at the gift shop, and the staff would blown up in the store.
Their photographers were great at stopping us for about 5 minutes randomly, and snapping some great shots! We ended up purchasing a few from throughout our stay. I was happy to have that, since I am always the one behind the camera.
The maid fulfilled our requests for the mini bar, and maintenance was very quick to respond (at no additional charge) when our 12 year old accidentally changed the code on the safe, and couldn’t remember what she’d changed it to.
The adults in our room were given a free one hour hydrotherapy session, and it was great too! We didn’t utilize any other spa services, but heard that the sweetish massages were very relaxing.
In the end, the check-out process was very quick and easy. The butler had taken our flight info and contacted the shuttle company for us to arrange our ride to the airport.
I highly recommend this resort, and paying for the Diamond Club Luxury
Swim-Out room! Special thank you Rafael for everything!!!

Let me start by saying that if you are looking for a place to go as a family with children, then this hotel has potential, but if you are a foodie or looking for relaxation in the sun, then I would not recommend this resort. There is plenty to do and just the size alone makes for a great walk, but the size also makes it difficult to participate in the activities around the pool as everything is centred in the middle pool area and it can get noisy. We were there at 60% capacity and I can only imagine what it is like or would be like had more people been there. The rooms are nice and being up high, we had a great view from our oceanview eighth floor room and the balcony doors kept out the noise; albeit on day 2 of our stay, we had the shower back up and I called reception to send someone immediately. We had water all over the bathroom and into the hallway and had to use all our towels to soak up as much water as possible. Room service eventually came after three calls, including one from the maintance gentleman. We received more towels, but the soaked ones remained on the floor. Lucia, who tended our room, throughout most our stay was very meticulous and left our room spotless. She picked up the soaked up towels and carted then away with a smile. Be aware that the minibar in non Diamond Club rooms only contains pop and beer. Not too healthy, in my opinion, for a resort catering to families. I had to ask many times to have the minibar replenished with drinking water over the course of our eight-day stay and the beer removed as we do not drink beer. There are also no snacks. Again a bit bizarre in my opinion. My partner and my son enjoyed the waterslides, but the nighyly entertainment was average, save for the live music (latin bands and marachis). Lastly, the quality of the food and its presentation is hit and miss. Being a Celiac with a lot of other food allergies, food is not always my friend. On day 2, I was assigned a food consultant whose role was to ensure I could have meals that would not cause me to have severe food reactions. Abdani did the best he could within the parameters he was working within. Did things go sideways? Yes, they did, but communication in this resort is paramount. They need to find ways to ensure everyone is on the same page all the time, not just some of the time. Chef Francisco prepared me incredible enchiladas, without almonds as an ingredient, for the evening of the wedding dinner. The presentation was fantastic and they were soooo delicious. Chefs Esdam and Christopher made sure that I could eat breakfast and lunch at the buffet and the waiters Hector, Juan and José at the Gourmet marché make our mornings and afternoons incredible. These fine gentleman are on the outside terrase. On a final note, we greatly appreciated having Canadian TV channels that allowed us to watch our teams during the Stanley Cup playoffs in our room and at the sportsbar Score and to even have the live band play La Bamba after our team won one of their games! Being a native Spanish speaker helped solve a lot of the issues we had.

We booked this vacation as a present for my mom’s 80th bday, when got to the resort to check in front desk employees were extremely rude, didn’t have a clue what was open or closed. (Water park for adults they said is closed ) but all reviews said that it was open, the email our travel agent said most slides were open, but the staff have no idea what is open or closed.
No one greeted anyone coming off the bus with wet towels or drinks (when we travelled to Cuba we were able to get a better greeting then to a 5 star Royalton in Cancun).
We are traveling with 4 adults and a 7 month old baby and when booking with our travel agent we asked for simple requests such as : a crib in the room, rooms close together, two beds in one room instead of one king bed. When we got to the resort the front desk receptionist said we asked for too many requests and they can’t accommodate us. At first they offer us room with one kind size bed and a sofa - how it’s possible, who will sleep on sofa, if I asked for 2 queen size beds? Then they did find room with 2 queen size beds, we just had to wait longer a bit. They said that a crib is also not guaranteed as this is a family resort. After arguing with the receptionist about how this is insane and where our baby is going to seep they sent us to talk to a manager. The manger was understanding but unfortunately he wasn’t any help. He said that the day of my moms birthday they will make a surprise and send us a piece of cake to the room and put a banner on the door. ( it’s her birthday today and that was not done until 630pm and we had to hassle and keep asking them when it will be done). These small little things make someone’s day, what is the point of doing it at night, this should have been done in the morning.
When we got to the rooms the room where our 7 month baby is (who crawls ) the closet door fell off the hinges. It was not secured properly to the closet. It’s a huge safety risk. The door hurt my daughter when it fell I can’t even imagine what would happen if the door fell on the baby. We called to front desk and complained we also told the manager who we spoke to about this. All he did was listen write things down but nothing was done to make the trip better. You can’t make reservations anywhere if you’re not in Diamond club. Which is fine understandable, but after all this we asked if it is possible to make a reservation for my moms birthday and they said no. After having so many problems and a door falling they could have been more accommodating and made one reservation for one night.
The bedsheets in one of the rooms had yellow stains on it. This is crazy because the resort was only open for less than 1 month and so many problems that should not be happening at a 5 star resort.
We are still here…. Will see how it’s going to end
The food is good, the shows are good, workers cleaning nonstop, it’s spotless, the beach has a lot of seaweed and it was gross to swim in on the first 2/3 days. But the little things that make someone’s trip no one cares to improve.
I wouldn’t recommend this resort to anyone. This is a horrible experience and overpriced. You’re better off going somewhere else.

The hotel just opened and the service is not yet up to their standards for a 5 star resort.
Employees do not seem very friendly and eager to work. The hallways and elevators are dirty, you don't see lots of staff around cleaning the public spaces.
Every morning you have to fight for sunbeds. At 8:30am all sunbeds by the pool are taken. The staff needs to encourge guests not to reserve sunbeds, they should remove towels after 30 minutes.
Restaurants and food is good.however the Mexican restaurant is not very authentic. Everything is adapted to American standards.
Also they did not have Prosecco or Sparkling wine available because they ran out.
A lot of staff does not speak English, simple questions cannot be answered.
We are staying 10 days and we wanted a proper beach holiday. The beach is full of seaweed so you can't swim in the sea.
There is no shuttle into Cancun and the resort is very far out. They do not allow Ubers to come in, so you need To book an expensive taxi. Costs for one way to cancun is 50 USD.
There is a very bad smell around the resort.
If you are looking for a good night sleep you won't get it here. The rooms are very noisy and doors slam. You can hear every sound coming from the hallway.
The entertainment is also very poor and basic. Sound quality of the show is horrendous.
On a positive note, the interior design and amenities of the rooms is very beautiful with a big shower and bathtub. The breakfast buffet and the lunch in the Tratorria is very good.
The pool and kids amenities are also superior.
As of now, I cannot recommend booking it.

So I really really wanted to believe that the negative reviews were overkill and people were just being fussy but there are so many things that went wrong that i thought to let other travellers know. The hotel it's self has a new feel but cold feel, nothing with a really good atmosphere that we are use to, long dark hallways and lack of colour and decor. Our room was ocean front diamond club presidential and that was impressive, the view was stunning , all with hard liquor included as well as wine ( red was horrible throughout) so we ended up spending quite a bit on wine,, restaurants were just ok, everything always was cold ( french onion soup ) horrible, pasta drenched in soup sauce and very salty meat. There is lots at the buffet but a lot of stuff that nobody ate so we ate lots of burgers, tacos and stuff like that and that was ok. The brazilian was awful, it's like a cafeteria inside. We like the french, and zen was ok but we all got a bad stomach virus after that, so make sure you pack pills for that. It went from one person to another and lasted 24 hours with severe vomiting and the other stuff. The beach is terrible, dark and murky so if you like a beach don't book here ,,, it's super windy and so much stuff stuff on the beach to not step on we didn't go in. The workers are nice enough ( especially victor at the main pool and Alijandro that brought us drinks but some spend more time talking amongst themselves and you feel like you are almost bothering them. The diamond club area isn't worth the upgrade, it's shady and the water was freezing. The water park isn't finished which was fine, we went on a few slides but that area is so ugly to be in and smells of sulfer. The lazy river was fun but the current wasn't very strong so you were basically pushing yourself. All in all we still had fun with the family but spent a lot of money to be here and wished we had gone somewhere else.

This was our first stay at the Royalton Splash however we have stayed at several other Royalton Properties before. The staff, as always, are excellent and compared to other Royaltons the check in process appeared to be quicker. Our room was also great and the layout made it easy for 2 people to share a room which is not necessarily true for the Royalton Hideaway.
The buffet had an excellent selection and for lunch there were several great places that offered quick grab and food. The number of a la carte restaurants provided some amazing variety and the quality of food was great. You could definitely see that there were some growing pains present, understandable for a new hotel, and that the service flows at the restaurants still needed tweaking. As an example we waited 15 minutes for beers on night and we had finished consuming our main dishes before the sauces for the main dishes were served to the table.
This review, in its most basic form, should simply read - This resort is incredible for families!!! Waterslides, a lazy river, great pools and a beach that, although suffering from seaweed, offers gentle waves and shallow waters even during the worst of weather. This a nice change from the main tourist strip of Cancun where although the water is a beautiful shade of blue and the beaches are pristine, the currents and waves mean you have to watch your kids non stop.
There are only 2 real criticisms to offer of this hotel. #1 - it is still under construction so not everything that is advertised is open and there may be some construction noise during the day. #2 - there is no nightlife at this hotel. That may be fine if you're in bed with your kids early but if you are planning a large family holiday there will always be people who don't have kids that want to enjoy the resort past 11pm. The Sports Bar is advertised as being open until 6am however was always closed shortly after 1am. The ambiance offered by the Sports Bar wasn't great either. If there was 1 thing this hotel could use, it is a late night disco/bar. Sadly this does not appear to be in the plans but for such a large and isolated hotel, a disco offering dancing and drinks until the early morning should be an obvious thing. Many other Royalton properties offer this and the hotel definitely has space if they chose to construct it.
In short, if you want a family holiday with young kids, don't hesitate to book. If you want an adult holiday or are booking a large group that includes people without younger kids, consider looking elsewhere until the Royalton Splash adds a late night disco or creates a better party vibe after midnight.

We are 1 week in to our 2 week holiday. Initially I was a tad apprehensive after reading negative reviews but I’ll be totally honest, this place is a dream hotel. Food is amazing & so much choice, there will without doubt be something for everyone here. The staff are so friendly & helpful & work tirelessly to ensure you have the best holiday experience. Our room has been cleaned every day, fresh towels & mini fridge restocked daily also. The pools aren’t particularly cold but then they have the sun on them all year round so not likely to be. The beach is nice, not much seaweed & there are constantly staff on the beach clearing any up that gets washed ashore. Karaoke is on 3 times a week in one of the bars which is always good entertainment. I would without doubt recommend this hotel to others. Just use your brains, the shops are expensive on site for snacks & sun tan lotions so just prepare with enough lotion coming out & as for snacks, you can eat around the clock but not likely to find pringles or crisps 🤷🏻♀️. Hope this fair reviews reassures others who are booked to come out.

We travelled to Mexico and stayed at the Royalton Splash the week of September 25th-October 2nd. We were travelling with out almost 2 year old and in laws.
At check-in we were hoping to have three rooms fairly close by or at least on the same floor, and they were actually able to give us three rooms right next to each other on the second floor with garden/pool view. We were very pleased with how they went out of their way to accommodate us. The rooms were located underneath the Ma Maison Restaurant. The first night at around 4am we were awakened by chairs being moved and heavy foot steps as they were cleaning up, and the second night around 10:30 by very loud music and noise that woke us all up including the baby. We called the front desk to complain and a few minutes later the Hotel Manager Oscar and one of his colleagues came to have a look. My husband went to talk to them in the hallway and they were genuinely apologetic and offered to change all our rooms the next morning. A few minutes later the music was turned a lot lower and we were able to get back to sleep. The next morning they spotted us in the lobby and came right away and apologized to us for the inconvenience and asked what they could do to make our stay more enjoyable. We didn't want to change rooms as it was a convenient area for us so they insisted on having us all enjoy the hydrotherapy circuits at the spa. It was a wonderful experience for all of us. They also had a meeting with the cleaning staff and they were asked not to make noise that early in the morning. Oscar and Yahaira both went out of their way to make sure our whole stay was comfortable and enjoyable. They always greeted us like family everywhere they saw us, and made reservations for us at restaurants as well. We would recommend this resort solely based on the service we received from the Management, but the resort itself is beautiful and has so much to offer.
When we visited it was 50% capacity, we never had trouble finding seating around the pool area or beach. There are a lot of pools at this resort which is great. Lady and Laura at the beach bar were amazing! They were friendly and offered great service and always made sure our drinks were replenished.
Our housekeeper Saiyra I believe was amazing. She came in often when my son was napping and would change towels and do everything she could without making noise and tell me to call housekeeping when he is up and she will come back to finish the rest. I really appreciated that!
There are many restaurants to choose from and we hardly had to wait without reservations. The buffet was great, the sports bar during the day, their mixology bar near the lobby was amazing! The bar tender was friendly and made us try a few drinks that were delicious.
The beach was clean, the water wasn't that nice but it was due to the season. They did have a net in the water to keep seaweed out which was great.
All in all it was a great stay for us and our family and we are planning to go back next year.
