Mugilu is an ideal setting for those who seek to connect and be with nature. Located a little outside the town of Sakleshpura, this humble abode is a haven to break free from the shackles of the stressful city life. Nestled amidst a coffee plantation are five cottages, a cute dining space, four friendly dogs, a small band of people who run the place efficiently and effortlessly. The homestay is inclusive of all three meals, pet friendly, and is close to several tourist attractions. The cottages are simple, clean, and have an old architectural charm to them. Their menu is curated with simple, delicious, and healthy dishes. But I would tip my hat towards the meadow that is literally just a 2-minute walk from the property. The view is breathtaking. One can spend an entire day just walking around the property. Also, do check out the small water stream further down the meadow which is a half hour walk from Mugilu. The whole way is picturesque and beautiful.

What a beautiful place for a socially distanced getaway ! I'm glad we spent the last weekend @ Mugilu amidst such an earthy setting and we felt safe with all the precautions taken by the hosts and even other guests. The food is soo good and prepared fresh. Mugilu is surrounded by lush green valleys covered in mist and it made me so happy! A special shoutout to the friendly Gunddu who is the inhouse guide in exchange for petting & head scratches :) Saklespur is such a paradise on earth !!!

Its value for every penny that you spend here. Starting from checkin, room, amenities and ambience that it provides. Food available at breakfast/dinner is buffet. mind that food is simple but spend is decent and taste is really appreciated by kids (as well). Lunch is on request and palatable. Property is densely surrounded with trees/shrubs and it is an experience to walk around with family. resident dogs here are kids friendly. do buy stuff like honey, coffee etc from them again at reasonable price. staff is courteous. chandan do make a point, to have a word with all the guests. Approach road is not laid but is easily manageable with any sort of car. word of advise - follow instructions given during stay, very diligently, else you might not be happy with stay here. Overall highly recommended if you want to stay at sakleshpur.

We had a wonderful stay. It's perfect for people who prefer homestays. Food was served on time. Fresh, very tasty, mildly spiced - even the kids enjoyed it.

Rooms are big and maintained well. Bathrooms have hot water. Few spiders and lizards managed to come in but we got used to them over four days. The balcony view is lovely.

The plantation has good trailes for walking. Our kids loved exploring it and took us twice every day. We saw a lot of birds, insects and beautiful sunsets.

Chandan and his staff Anand and Guddu are very courteous. The place is run efficiently and the staff are always available for any help.

Would highly recommend Mugilu and hope to come back here quickly.

Stayed here with my family and pet on 20-21 Oct 23.Booked directly through Chandan.

Pros-Overall it's a well maintained pet friendly property with good service and tasty food.Anand and his team took good care. Best part is the three friendly dogs that welcome you wholeheartedly (imli, bubbles and chukki).Nearby stream visit was a great experience

Cons- Room upkeep not upto the mark. We had two large dock spiders crawling under the bed that scared the hell out of us at night which were removed by the staff after we complained. Please ensure you check the room thoroughly before occupying. Overpriced.

We selected Mugila for the birding and were drawn by the fact the resort was designed around supporting and nurturing nature. All those expectations were ticked to our satisfaction during our 2-night stay. We got their best room with a full glass wall on one side. The rooms are built on the higher side of a slope so we get the unique tree top views. The property is a Coffee Estate in name only as the owners have let it grow naturally with no pesticides or removal of trees for shade. So, it is almost like you are amid western ghats rather than an Estate. Food is homely and just enough for our needs. If you are expecting lavish buffets, then this is not the place for you. The rooms are clean and well-maintained. The hosts and staff are friendly and helpful.

Primary activity for us was, of course, birding. We did some inside the property, on a small trek to a stream nearby and outside the gate to the right towards the village. Highlight was the fantastic sightings of a (resident?), pair of Malabar Trogons. This we first sighted from our room when lying down in our bed! Heavenly. Later they gave us a good show on the walk inside the estate too. Note that birdwatching inside the property is tough due to the heavy foliage. One needs to have quick eyes, know calls, and luck. We still managed to spot Flycatchers, Flamebacks, Drongos, Flame throated Bulbuls, Blue-capped Rock Thrush, and of course Trongon, among others. We found the walk outside along the estate fence to the right towards the village very productive with Vernal hanging parrots, munias, lotens sunbird, leafbirds, parakeets, hornbills, puff throated babblers, woodshrike sightings. Don't forget to look out for other nature too while staying there. Butterflies, spiders, lizards, flowers....etc...etc. :)

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

We visited Mugilu during 1st week of March 2022. The homestay experience was memorable & excellent. It provided perfect ambience to unwind and be close to the nature. You wake up to sounds unfamiliar in city environment like birds chirping which are pleasant & soothing.
Also enjoyed the morning and evening walks in the grasslands and trails.
The staff is helpful and took care of us including our pet dog. The food was homely and tasty.
Would definitely plan to revisit.

Pros
1. Easy to reach
2. Very hospitable staff willing to accommodate special requests
3. Friendly owner with attention to detail
4. Good veg food
6. Kid and pet friendly
7. A stream just about a 10 min walk away
8. Sylvan and tranquil surroundings
9. Bird lovers paradise
10. A nice reading nook and games
11. Pleasing decor with good quality construction

Cons
1. Steep slope walkway to the common eating area is not senior citizen or toddler friendly, perhaps a handle way could be built.
2. Air conditioning not available for the summer afternoons.
3. The three part mattress for the extra bed wasn’t comfortable but passable for a short visit.

Overall a very great getaway from Bangalore for a weekend in tranquility away from the chaos of city life.
2. Meals are not delivered to the room

Absolutely loved this place. Away from crowd, they don't encourage crowd in the property. Just five cottages with splendid views. Ample birds to wake you up. Ample space to walk around the property. Loved walking out in mist on adjacent grasslands. Their dog kept us company. Has view from room, balcony and everywhere. Not to forget the homely food and Karnataka specialities like Kadubbu, akki roti on the menu.
