Detailed Reviews
Honestly, its no wonder you won the Conde Noste award. I will name everyone and the fact that i know their names is a testament to the service at Lion Sands. I have travelled far and wide with my family and have been to the bush many times, but never have we walked away from a holiday as sad as we did from this one. Sad not because its was not a good experience, but rather sad because we had to leave. We were so sad that we even squeezed in an extra night at Fish Eagle Villa and boy that made us even more sad to leave. Danny, Nadia, Richard and Erica at front of house as well as Jayde for getting us the extra night. Chris, Lucky and all the hospitality staff, could not have been kinder and more pleasant and never did we feel smothered. Lindiwe and Elizia who cleaned our rooms, put so much effort into the bed making and decoration and the rooms felt brand new every day. Then the game drives. IP and Norman, i cannot say enough that they are gems. When you spend that much time interacting with two people so closely tracking and learning and then having relaxing sundowners, or coffee or boma dinners, the people need to be personable. They were beyond that. They were amazing with my children and even better with my wife and I. We loved them and even invited them to have drinks at the villa with us. The time and effort they put into us felt genuine. My children walked away wanting to be IP and Norman. The sum of all the parts is simply this. We had a dream get away, we wanted more of it, we are coming back for more of it and this time we are brining our friends and family to let them share in a second to none experience that is unforgettable. This is more a THANK YOU than review, so thank you More Family Collection for making 2020 a year to remember, not one to be forgotten.

My wife and I stayed in the fish eagle villa in february this year. It was our first time in SA and I can definitely say this will not be our last. Right from the start we were received with a warm welcome in the reception area. Since my wife is partially disabled due to a stroke a couple of years ago we were concerned about the logistics of getting in and out the car for game drives. Things were sorted out pretty quickly with a simple solution.
The villa was exceptionally large and felt really good. In the beginning we needed a bit of time to get used to the light switches at night but after one night this was solved. The showers are superb both inside and outside. The beds are provided with mosquite nets although in this time of the year we did not really need them. Due to the rainy season we were not really able to sit outside on the deck long times but being under the cover on the veranda made up for this. The sounds of the laughing hippos on the background were very comforting.
The food was preppared in our villa by the chef. If there was something that could be improved it would be the dinner. Having been in other lodges during our stay I must say there is room for improvement here. The food was good for sure but we missed the wow factor with a steak that was a bit overcooked and a piece of salmon that was almost dry the other night. Do not understand me wrong it was good but if you set the standard for a top notch resort you should be able to improve on this.
The filed trips were really the best part of the stay. Since we booked the fish eagle villa we were granted a private ranger Quintin. Since I am into photography it was good to have a specialist in this field to help us out. They came with special bean bags to keep to camera stable so I did not need a monopod. Overall knowledge of the animals, the landscape, the birds etc wa sastonishing and really helped us to make this trip memorable.
One last tip: Please repare the roof on the entrance. For such a beatifull villa it is a bit silly if the staff has to put towels under the leaking roof in various places in the room in order to collect all the incoming rain. This should be an easy fix that can be done in a week minimum. I sincerely hope that when we get back in 2021 it will be fixed

Without doubt this is one of the finest lodges I've stayed in while on an African safari. The rooms are spacious, well designed and come equipped with every comfort needed (and more) for a luxurious stay in the bush. Great views from the room with wildlife walking by on a regular basis. Service in the lodge is exemplary - the staff deal with all requests promptly, efficiently and with perhaps the best attitudes I've come across in the industry. The food offer was outstanding and our dedicated butler quickly came to recognize our preferences. The small number of guests made it feel like a very private and relaxing experience. Our tracker and guide were friendly, approachable and knowledgeable (though perhaps needed to have a little more patter for those short periods when the big game was elusive). We were lucky enough to see leopards every day, some really cool behaviors and packed a lot of sightings in. Overall, a really excellent experience, I can't recommend it highly enough.

A wonderful experience in the wild. The site projects over the sabi river, the rapid water flow soothing your mind. Shimmering views and abundant wildlife. The Ivory Lodge impressed us from the time we arrived. Above par service, good food, well managed, we felt like our second home and wished we never would leave. The individual staff each simultaneously connected to us in their own way. The rooms design, a space of privacy, luxury accommodation , exquisite outdoor bathroom and moreover captured the surrounding elements. The infinity pool which seemed to flow into the sabi river enhanced the connection with nature. We saw elephants, buffalo , various buck and heard lions roar while having a dip in the privacy of our own pool .The staff along with the architectural design and decor created a lodge with unforgettable experiences which filled our mind with harmony and rejuvenated our souls .

This location was the first of three safari experiences (in three different countries) that we visited. There is no question, Lion Sands was our favourite by a mile!
The number one asset to our visit was Anthony and Andrais. Having the knowledge of these two wonderful humans made our visit better than we could have ever wanted. If (when) we get a chance to come back, and for everyone I refer, I will insist that they request those two. So knowledgeable and skilled at what they do. We always felt safe and had incredible interactions with the animals on every single drive. The way that the park area and animals are managed is great. Having the rule of no more than two vehicles in one location makes a huge difference in the animals level of comfort in my opinion.
We had Mavis and Ben working with us and they were excellent to work with and the food and service was always impeccable.
There wasn't anything that we would want to change with regards to the Fish Eagle Villa or how we were cared for. It was extra special that we had our own pick up spot for game drives and having the team meet us when we came back was always a nice added touch. One of our favourite surprises was the breakfast that was set up out on the game drive on the platform above the river.
The little details that you provide really show your level of service. Starting with Anthony picking us up at the airport with personalized water bottles. Not a better way to start a unique new vacation.
We would love to come back and will be recommending your company and your team to everyone who will listen!

Had the most amazing time at the Ivory Lodge. Our family of 10 occupied 3 of the 8 villas, but we all spent most of our days together hanging out comfortably in the spacious 2 bedroom Fish Eagle Villa. Having a kitchen in the Villa so that our personal chef can prepare and serve our meals fresh was a true luxury. Indoor and outdoor areas were well maintain and kept pristine throughout our entire stay by our attentive attendants and butlers. The Fish Eagle also has it's own private gym and spa for in-room massage treatments. Game drives were eventful and very comfortable. Guides and trackers were top notch. Had the opportunity to stay in one of the Tree Houses over night, which was such a unique experience. Ivory lodge and it's staff delivered on what felt like a once in a lifetime type of experience.

My wife and I are so fortunate to have just completed our third stay at Ivory Lodge. Each time my work takes me to South Africa, we try hard to find a different place to stay on for holiday - the world is a big place and we want to experience as much as we can. We try hard NOT to go back to someplace - even if it was spectacular.
After spending countless hours researching other lodges in and around Kruger, we always find ourselves back at Ivory Lodge. As I shared with a staff member on this past trip, Ivory Lodge is the only place I go where I wish the days were longer - by the time you experience the drives, the food, a massage, your plunge pool overlooking the wildlife visiting the river, the photo shop where they will help you with your images, etc., there simply are not enough hours in the day.

I can not say enough about this place. We visiting the river lodge five years ago and our stay was magical! It was so nice to return and see so many familiar faces (even post covid)! This time was no different just BETTER! This place is a must do. You are treated like family and everything you ask is “yes”! The game drives are amazing and there is no lack of animals. The trackers and guides are extremely knowledgeable and everyone pays attention to every detail. Did I mention the food??!! Omg the food is absolutely out of this world and the chef was so sweet and accommodating. She personally came to our table just about every meal to see if we liked it or desired something different. Even when I didn’t want what was in the menu (bc I wanted to be a typical boring American and just have a burger) they whipped me up the most amazing burger in no time and it was not even in the offerings. Just an example of what they do to make u happy. The spa treatments were so rejuvenating and even when I requested a massage at a time the spa was no open they quickly called someone and I was getting my massage within the half hour!! The rooms are spacious and absolutely beautiful. The views outside the room of the Sabi river is amazing and the animals pass right by your window peeking in. So exhilarating! The drinks are great. There is plenty of good food and the staff are out of this world. Thanks to the office staff amd Torrence (our butler) and Greg (our game drive guide) and our tracker (who has worked there for over 30 years)! As you can see I can’t say enough good things about this place. It’s a must do! PS I recommend a stay in the treehouse if your budget will afford it. So romantic!!!

We went to South Africa for my 60th birthday and our visit to Lion Sands was the most amazing part of our trip. I never thought we would have the opportunity to stay in such a wonderful place. Our 'villa' was amazing [seemed liked 'lives of the rich and famous'], we were upgraded for my birthday to the 2 bd Fish Eagle Villa. The safari lodge, Ivory Lodge, had about 6-8 separate villas with private decks and plunge pools overlooking the river, hippos and all, and a main reception area, dining area, expansive deck and bar. Our villa was amazing as I've said, each bd had 2 showers, one inside and one outside, a large tub and dressing area and bed area. We shared a kitchen, dining area, library and living room. The deck had the plunge pool and a large sitting area and firepit. We had our own Land Cruiser for our twice daily safaris complete with excellent guide and driver, Michael, who had 22+ years experience guiding and Mpelo, our trekker. The rest of the staff from our concierge, Chanel [chanelle@more.co.za], who helped us book our trip, to reception, to dining, to housekeeping and to the spa staff were all great. They were friendly, helpful, experienced and overall topnotch. We had a wonderful experience. The game drives were exciting. We appreciated the breaks with snacks and drinks. We saw so many animals with the highlights being the lions and elephants and a brief glimpse of a leopard. I can't recommend Lion Sands Ivory Lodge any higher than I have. I can't think of one way they could have made our stay better. Great job More Family Collection!!! We hope to return some day and recommend you highly.

Stayed there for 3 nights. The welcome was warm and very friendly. Already at Skukuza airport, where they waited for us, helping us finishing the necessary administration (forms to fill in). They handed over a personal drinking bottle from Lion Sands with nice and cold water. The rooms are amazing. Extremely spacious, modern, luxurious, spotless clean, and awesome views from the bedroom, the pool, the living and the terrace. Food is high quality. Everything is done to make you feel home and one of the family. Cellar wines are great to enjoy at dinners. I can mention all the details in which Ivory stands out compared to any lodge I have ever seen but that would take to much text. We had Norman and Sylvester (Sly) as tracker/guide. They are the best. We just had to mention what animals we wanted to see, and they made us see them. Creating amazing bush coffee in the morning and lovely sundowners during the evening game drive. It is likely that you see game walking in the camp (we saw a couple of elephants as we left our suite). Well, if you rate a lodge a 10 for the best you can think of, I can rate Ivory lodge an 11, because it was really more than we could even imagine. I hope to return one day... Thanks to all the staff at Lion Sands, Ivory Lodge.

Yes, there was enough binoculars for all 6 passages on the Land Rover Defender Safari truck.
Hello Deb2803
There are hairdryers in each of the rooms. Our dress code is very casual and only a few guests dress for dinner while others stay in the clothes they wore for safari. We recommend light coloured, loose fitting clothing as it is hot at the moment.
There will be special celebrations for Christmas.
We look forward to welcoming you soon!
