Detailed Reviews
My wife and I stayed at Oceanic for two weeks in February 2020. We were welcomed by Kadar, Urmila's husband at 2:30 in the morning with a smile and a cold bottle of water. Throughout our 2 weeks stay we were impressed by how clean and tidy the hotel and outside areas were kept at all times. The food was excellent, both breakfast and dinner. The pool was lovely, a good size and surrounded by palm trees providing shade and atmosphere. Our room was cleaned daily to a high standard. Urmila and Kadar were very helpful and informative having been brought up in the area and are striving to keep the hotel standards constantly high. We highly recommend it and will definitely be back. The stay at Oceanic hotel was enjoyable, pleasant and value for money. Oceanic is close to the beach and headphones party. You can get amazing breakfast, dip in the beautiful pool (almost any time), read books etc. The rooms are spacious and clean- I won't call it luxurious though. Best part about the hotel is the hosts. They accommodated us m their property as we came early, guided us, got us scooters, kayaks and cab Cat cheaper prices than outside?. I will definitely stay here on my next visit.

I found this hotel on the internet and was impressed at the very swift response of Urmila to my queries, which was largely why I booked it. As a solo female traveller, it appeared to offer everything I needed, and so it proved when I stayed there. Urmila is a delightful, and superbly kind and helpful host, as is Raj, her husband. They have a beautiful little boy too. There is a wonderful pool and a great terrace for eating their fabulous food (vegetarians like me well catered-for), and a lower bar for drinking. The rooms are impeccably clean and comfortable. It’s easy enough to get to both Palolem and Patnem by tuk-tuk. U & R will arrange all this for you, as well as any other trips you may be interested in, such as the amazing sunset cruise to Butterfly Bay. And this is a most reasonably-priced hotel, which I can’t recommend highly enough. Many thanks to Urmila & Raj, and long may you and your hospitality prosper!

Just checked out of the oceanic hotel and I have to say it was a brilliant experience. Everything was way better than expected. We spent 5 nights here and Urmila, Kedar Soni and Surya were the nicest people we could have met. Urmila and Kedar went out of their way to make our holiday as comfortable as they could. Nothing was ever too much. We went with Shadow (our Pooch) and even though they are predominantly a veg hotel they (Soni) cooked chicken for shadow every single day we were there. Urmila cooked the most amazing Goan food for us also. The Indian breakfast is really worth a try. The rooms are extremely clean and well maintained. All in all a great experience. Whenever we find ourselves in Goa we will be sure to stay here. We absolutely luv this place. Thank u guys for making this so great for us and Shadow 😊😊

My husband & I stayed for 2 weeks, end of Jan-Feb. We had a nice clean spacious room with a delightful shared seating area outside. The hotel grounds are kept tidy & clean. The pool is refreshing & also open to the public.
The outside restaurant area & bar is very pretty & tropical. The food served for breakfast, lunch & dinner is so fresh & tasty, the best we had in the area. My husband was also looked after with his odd order of plain chicken (chicken Tom.) I enjoyed the Goan fish curry & the vegetarian options. The fresh fruit juices were lovely. Now for the best, Urmilla & Kaydar made us so welcome, with arrived as strangers & left as friends. Very professional & so helpful & friendly. Thanks to Kaydar for the best Mojito's in Goa & Urmilla for her warm smile. We hope to see them again next year. Jayne & Tom.

Stayed at the Oceanic for 5 days last week Urmila and her husband where friendly warm and helpful,It was like a home away from home? the rooms are clean and comfortable, the pool area is so relaxing set in the hill side amongst the trees with all species of wildlife around.
The food was also excellent? Try the butter chicken “wow”
Can’t fault the place ! Just be mindful if you’re less able there are a few steps ? But that aside excellent.
Can’t wait to return next year
Even have mermaids in the pool 😂

We stumbled apron Oceanic by accident, after arriving in town with no plan hotel. What luck! It really was a great find. Sweet location, pool, restaurant, bar. The managers, Urmula and Raj are the best part of staying here. Super attentive, kind, they act like owners. They really care about your experience. I own a cafe wine shop in the states and I know good service. I would go back in a heart beat.

You will find some lovely reviews of this place, as did I, and the hotel website makes you think the place, run by an English couple, will offer a high standard of service ..... but beware! I wonder who really wrote those reviews, after a recent 8-night stay at this place.
The rooms vary in price according to size (we paid about £32 per night NO breakfast included), but all have bathrooms and cable TV (which doesn't always work), ceiling fans, NO air-con. The surroundings are quite lovely, the restaurant extremely pleasant, great world music, easily some of the best food we have had in Goa (we've been to Goa 3 times in the last 6 years).
Now the reason why wild horses couldn't drag me back to this place. The owners have decided not to keep a generator here -- they said it would be too noisy, but actually modern ultra-quiet generators have been on sale in India for several years now. It was either boiling hot or very humid in Goa two weeks ago, and there were many power cuts, one that lasted 7 hours through the night! Our 5 year old and 3 year old could not sleep in the fan-less heat, and were terrifed by the constant dark (no candles possible because then you get hundreds of insects flying towards you). We were worried about falling asleep with our bedroom doors open (for any possible breeze) because the hotel entrance gates (a few steps down from our balcony) remained open all night for latecomers, with only one member of staff to guard the property.
The owners had warned us that the hotel suffered water shortages, so could we be as economical as possible when taking showers (and we were) -- but there is no mention of this on their website. We discovered later that if you have a generator than your water pump will still, obviously, work even when there is a power cut. It was unbearable after an afternoon or night of fan-lesssweating, or after a visit to the beach, or a swim in the pool, not to be able to take a shower -- the water was running out almost everyday!
Another problem, the hotel washing machine had broken down, and instead of taking the towels and bed linen to a local machine laundery service (of which there were quite a few), the owners made the hotel staff wash everything by hand. So the white towels and bed sheets were badly stained, and didn't smell fresh or clean. Yuk! For £32 a night for only the bed (since the shower didn't work, the loo didn't flush, the fans didn't go on, the cable TV was off, and there was no breakfast included), especially when this is a huge amount in Indian Rupees, you expect at the very least clean, fluffy towels and fresh feeling sheets.
You cannot fault the swimming pool however, it is idyllic, and we often had it to ourselves. The kids loved it and this made our stay bearable. The Indian staff at the hotel are the sweetest and friendliest people, they will do anything for you and give no impression that they want anything in return. We felt so sorry for the girls who had to wash everything by hand in that heat and humidity.
What surprised us most of all was that during the 7 hour power cut on our eigth night, the hotel owners did not stay on site to make sure the hotel guests were comfortable (they lived elsewhere and only one member of staff remained on site at night). When they arrived in the morning, the owners did not ask us if the kids were okay, they could have offered them some free bottled water as a goodwill gesture (especially since we had no water to brush our teeth with, or even just to splash our faces with, forget about flushing the loo!)
We decided to cut short our stay and left that day -- no animosity, we simply said the kids couldn't go through another power cut night with no water. We were friendly to the end, and gave the Indian staff really good tips for their kindness. But do you know, the English owners did not even say goodbye to us (forget about offering any apologies) -- they simply disappeared. And there we were thinking they might give the kids some snacks or cold drinks on the house -- that would have made such a difference.
We are not argumentative people, we left as politely as we behaved during our stay -- but we wanted to write a review that gave a true picture of our stay at this place, as we feel the hotel website is quite misleading. When you have a hotel of this size (six bedrooms, swimming pool and restaurant) in such a hot country where there are frequent long power cuts, a generator is a must, especially when you allow young children from colder climates to stay. And a hotel that runs out of water everyday really needs to make this clear before they take bookings, and adjust their room rates accordingly.
Stupidly we thought English owners equalled high standards. They are saving so much money on electricity here! Thank goodness our next hotel, a private Goan concern (Vainguimin Valley Resort, also reviewed), was the lap of luxury compared to the Oceanic, and only £18 more per night (but that included a big breakfast buffet, air-con, fresh clean fluffy towels each day, and a fast acting generator in the event of power cuts).

Watch out. Despite some of the good comments about the hotel, it is far from ideal. No hospitality, fraudulent behaviour.
While travelling around India we came across the Oceanic Hotel because we wanted to enjoy the comfort of a TV, nice rooms and a pool at the end of our travels. With 1500Rps for the low season, the price did not come cheap but the pictures of their website and the reviews here on tripadvisor sounded more than promising.
The place looks good. The design is nice and if you are into appearances than this is certainly the place for you. If you have come to India to enjoy the famous Indian hospitality then you have found the wrong place.
We were greeted with "What do you want?" rather than with a "Welcome" even though we were expected as we had booked our room in advance.
The next point was that they asked for our credit card details in order to "hold" the booking for the five nights we planned on staying. No payment was to be deducted until the end was the comment of the rather gloomy receptionist. We found out afterwards that the whole amount was deducted straight away before even having seen the room...
The room itself looked nice but was very small and our TV did not work. We asked the staff to fix that several times as we wanted to relax for the last days in India. We were told the problem would be solved until the next morning. Nothing happened even when we said that this was a reason for us to leave the hotel.
Next major annoyance was that we found out that Les & Sheila rented out the pool each day to non hotel guests. When we came back after a few at the beach to cool off at the pool we found that all sunbeds had been taken. "Sorry, pool is full"
Third annoyance: the location. Before arrving at the hotel I gave them a call to find out about how far the hotel was to the beach. I was told 700meters. That is simply not the truth. You have to walk to either Patnem or Palolem beach for at least 20-25 minutes! A rickshaw taxi cost another 50rps each way.
While confronting Sheila about our dislikes she did not even make an effort to solve the problem or comment on it. She simply referred to a book that apparently people write in about what a wonderful stay they had. I really wonder who these people are and I am assuming that they are all acquaintances rather than real guests.
There was a plus side though: the pool was nice (even if the water was cloudy) and the look of the place is really nice if you are into modern tiling. But thats it!
The owners love sitting with their friends in the patio or at the swimming pool not caring about their "guests".
We left after one night and had to argue a lot in order to get our money back.
If you are after your money"s worth and a hospitable stay in lovely India then this is not the right hotel for you.
