It is an amazing place to stay. very good location in south goa. It is very near to the beach, around 5 minutes walk.
Room was nice and clean. (AC room) Only issue was hot water in bathroom, we needed to turn off the AC.
Restaurant is not available in the resort, but there are lot of options nearby.
Ram is a good friendly Manager.
We loved the place. We would love to visit again.

We walked pass Shawnels many times so popped in to view accommodation. The resort is truly lovely a oasis of calm and tranquility. We booked our stay and loved every minute and will definitely go back. Ram and Francis were so helpful and kind, nothing was too much.
Our room was bright, large and spotless, bed very comfortable. We had a lovely outside seating area.
Its location is perfect a minutes walk to German Bakery and 5 minute walk to beach. Every thing is near but you get to escape from madness and spend time in this oasis of lush greenery.
Out best find in Goa 💕thank you Ram for our wonderful stay.

The best thing about this resort is it's location. Very close to german bakery ,walking distance from beach, well maintained. The caretaker (ram) seemed a good person and the rooms were also clean.

Altogether a good stay but beware of mosquitos and power cuts. Both compliment each other quite well in palolem

Cons:- Shawnels doesn't serve food. Please start doing so to attract more tourists..

We booked to stay at Shawnels after arriving from Mumbai. We had been away for ages and wanted to stay somewhere really nice before going home. We booked a "Deluxe Cottage", which was supposedly the nicest room they had.

When we arrived we were shown to a plywood Hut. The big comfy beds and well laid out rooms in the photos were nowhere to be seen, there were definitely no "free toiletries" in the yhe bathroom.. Just a showerhead hanging from the wall with wires hanging out.

The bed sheets were filthy and we had ants running up the wall, 2 cockraoches and a selection of other bugs in there. The Aircon was terrible too.

This couldn't be further from the pictures. I'm sure some people find it quaint but I found it filthy. The guy who worked there said they had nicer huts when we mentioned this.. Why we weren't given these after we had paid the most I will never know.

He said it was okay for us to leave and go elsewhere... We later get a "no show" from booking.com as his "madame" said we hadn't shown. From what we heard she sounded like a rude, over controlling woman and I found this totally unprofessional. Don't waste your time here.

We took only lunch, with beers. Little higher side food bill.Servers are lazy.... But OK. Visit once, dear friends you will understand...

We visited Palolem during Diwali of 2013 (1st week of November). This place is fused into nature. Frankly, i have never found a quieter place to stay in my life. Almost reminds me of my native place. The caretaker was friendly and very helpful. We had booked a standard room (Rs.1000/day). The room was basic and just enough, not too posh, not too down to earth. There is a mosquito net in every room above the bed. Be sure to use it properly (as in tuck in netting below the mattress) else you'll have to sleep with mosquitoes.
The premises of Shawnels has a library, a common sitting area in the garden and also a small yard outside every room. It can be tagged as an ideal place for couples who just want to be by themselves.
Shawnels is located in the lane right next to german bakery. The beachfront is very close if you walk through other huts and shacks but the actual beach entrance is 1-1.5kms away.
Last time i visited Palolem, i had found a cheaper place right near the Palolem beach entrance (ofcourse that was a room suitable only for bachelors). Still i wish the price had been a tad cheaper considering the location.
All in all, if you don't mind the price and are looking for a quiet place to stay, i think Shawnel's maybe just the right place for you.

I have stayed in Shawnels every year for the past 3 years and look forward to the peace and tranquility. The gardens are beautiful and it is a delight to sit on the balcony and watch the bird life. The rooms in the resort have no TVs and there is no restaurant and for this I am thankful as sometimes in India in is difficult to find peace and quiet. The German Bakery is on the corner and there are many restaurants within a 10 minute walk. The lack of a restaurant has never caused me any inconvenience and keeps the ambience and tranquillity of the place. The walk to the beach takes about 5 minutes through the palm trees or a little longer by road. Again I find this a plus as it's good to get away from the hustle and bustle of the beach area.
There are different standards of room depending upon ones requirements and budget. The cheapest rooms are made from ply wood as they have to be dismantled every year as per council requirement. These are the cheaper rooms and although are more basic are clean and comfortable. There are brick built individual rooms and also 3 brand new rooms built this year. The rooms are spacious, clean and well appointed.
Ram is a delightful manager and nothing is too much trouble. If anything is needed, for example, room cleaning you only need to ask and it is done straight away with a smile.
I have read some of the negative reviews and too be honest I find them unfounded, unfair and vindictive and at times petty.
I'll definitely return and am enjoying time here. My favourite place in Palolem

Webpage and information provided are fake. For instance: 50 meters to the beach mean 500 meters walk through a village passing open toilets and mountains for garbage. The superior room was not available because the place has just seen a renovation which is not reflected on the website. Very disappointing and we left even before checking in.

Loved the location of Shawnels, literally a 3 minute walk to the beach and just down the lane from the German bakery. Was lovely to have a break from the beach to come back to this lovely little oasis of calm! The gardens are beautiful, lots of greenery, flowers, pots and ornaments. Swinging chairs and fairy lights...Lovely! The manager/caretaker 'Ram' is a pure gentleman. Very kind and helpful. Our 9 year old son had a great time with him playing games and chatting! Our room was as it appeared on the photos. Don't expect to have room cleaned and new towels provided every day.....Not that you need it.....But if you ask, they will be provided and cleaning done! Air con was a must in April and was refreshing to come back to. Had an amazing time here and will definitely return one day. Thanks for a great stay x. P.s. Bidesh M review is all lies. No smell of liquor anywhere.
