Alaya Tulum garners admiration for its comfortable rooms that boast unique charm and breathtaking ocean vistas, often enhanced by personal touches like morning coffee delivery right to your door. Guests have called out the hotel's staff for their attentive service, highlighting the prompt WhatsApp support and personalized attention. However, some travelers question the value, given the premium rates.
The hotel's prime location is a hit among guests for its easy access to the beach and local dining. While amenities might be limited, the hotel's daily yoga sessions and tranquil atmosphere receive praise. Cleanliness is top-notch, with only minor remarks about inconsistent towel service.

My friend and I decided to take a girl's trip to get out of NYC. We were pleasantly greeted upon arrival by staff who welcomed us with warm smiles and fresh juice. Enrique (the front desk/ concierge), was fantastic, kind, and very helpful giving us some great advice when we checked in. As he walked us to our villa, he gave us a mini tour of the resort complex. He showed us where their yoga studio was, and it is absolutely gorgeous. They hold different types of ceremonies as well as yoga classes throughout the week. Walking towards our suite, he showed us where the beach was, only steps away. My friend and I fell in love. The beach is set up with cushioned beds/ loungers, pillows, beach umbrellas, small tables, a mini bar to the left with food service as well, and a cute swing on the right. With the white sand between our toes and seeing that clear blue Caribbean sea just steps away, it was a dream come true. Entering into our double suite, the room was just so perfect and very clean. It had two closets with hangers, two sets of drawers, and a security lock box. The air conditioning unit is on a timer only to go on around 17:00-17:30, but they also had two ceiling fans that can be used during the daytime. The suite had an amazing shower room which is separate from the bathroom and a sink with a very large vanity mirror (perfect for two girls when getting ready) with organic local toiletries. They have a large ceramic water dispenser in which they fill when low with filtered water, so make sure you bring your reusable water bottles. They have a petite cafe that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a menu consisting of Latin American dishes that were very fresh and delicious. They also have a happy hour special. You can rent bicycles in which they encourage to use instead of taking taxis. They are very eco-conscious in Tulum and it is absolutely wonderful. They have a recycling bin in the bathroom area and one near the beach as well. If you do decide to visit Tulum, you definitely must read up on how to be an eco-friendly tourist. Everyday at the resort was a magical experience. They offered turn down service, fresh water basins for our sandy feet before entering our suite, daily housekeeping, and security on site at all times. The staff was professional, friendly, and patient with such impeccable service. I will definitely be a returning guest. ♥

My husband and I spent six nights here. It's in a great location as there are tons of restaurants nearby. The Real Coconut was only a couple places down on the beach and had great food and drinks.
Our room was large, had a comfortable bed, and a refrigerator. The hotel provided drinking water each day, and we had a/c from 6pm to 10am. Overall it was a nice room, but our room faced the street and it was very loud at night. Some nights there was live music across the street, but even when there wasn't, it was very loud. So just be aware if you are staying in one of the rooms near the road, you might want ear plugs.
The beach was nice and oddly it was never even remotely crowded. We would show up around 9am and there wasn't a single person on the beach. No matter what time of day we were there, only about half the beach loungers would be occupied. The beach service starts at 10am and the breakfast food was pretty good and not too expensive. The 2 for 1 drinks during happy hour was nice. The service on the beach was pretty slow so even after you'd ask for your bill, it would be 20-30 minutes before you would get it and be able to leave. Also, after tipping on my credit card all week, one of the beach servers told me that he needed a cash tip because he would not get the credit card tips. I did bring cash to tip on our last day, but that was still disappointing to hear that the servers were not getting the tips.

Dear Rebecca, Thank you very much for taking the time of writing about your stay with us. We feel sorry to hear that your experience in the room was not so great due to the noise from the street; Tulum have been growing so fast the last years and we recognize the need to improve the windows system in our beautiful Garden Apartments and we are about to install a new noise insulator system which will help us to guarantee a relaxing stay to our guests. We apologize for the comment made by our waiter on the beach about tips. At Alaya Tulum we give a fair and honest treatment to our valuable staff, you can be sure that all the waiters receive payment of tips that our customers decide to charge to their credit card. We truly hope to have the opportunity of welcome you again in the future and serve you as you deserve. Kind regards, Alaya Family

I had been following Alaya on Instagram for over a year. When it came time to come to Tulum, I had to try it. I was NOT disappointed. The property is absolutely beautiful, sporting all of the design aspects you'd expect of the trendy but classic Tulum. It's so picturesque that even people walking by on the beach stop to take a picture.
That beauty extends into the rooms. They are spacious, comfortable, very unique and environmentally friendly. Almost all rooms have a balcony, and several sliding doors to turn your room into one with the outdoors. They also have blackout curtains, good aircon, and a really nice bathroom.
I stayed in the oceanfront ground level suite and it was AMAZING. Nothing better than going to sleep and waking up looking right at the ocean. The room was so good that every time someone walked by they looked in interest. Truly stunning.
The staff was superb. Front desk was helpful, accommodating, and flexible. Security was present and active. The wait staff and beach club tenders were helpful, polite, funny, attentive, and had good recommendations.
The property was quiet but naturally quiet. The beachfront waves honestly muffle most sounds anyway. I'd recommend both for younger people and family. It was a good mix.
When I come back to Tulum, I'm going to Alaya.

We stayed here for 3 days and enjoyed every single part of it. The beach was incredible. Water was warm and clear and the sand was so soft. You were able to order food and drinks while on the beach. We also took advantage of the daily morning yoga class. It was amazing! the yoga class is not extra but the yogis accept tips. The AC works from about 6PM to 10AM which is comfortable. The location of the hotel is close to everything. We enjoyed having dinner at different restaurants outside of alaya however the price of food and drinks is pretty expensive. We paid over $140 dollars for a meal for two people at a restaurant called casa banana. The food was excellent but a little more than we expected to pay. The food in the hotel was absolutely incredible and more reasonably priced. Tulum was absolutely incredible and only a few miles from the Mayan ruins. Incredible hotel meant for peaceful relaxation, will definitely come back!

I visited Tulum during Covid2020 and the first hotel I booked in left a lot to be desired. Luckily next door was the Alaya and I managed to book a 3 day stay with them, with the help of Carla. She was great, knowledgeable, considerate, patient, and also did an excellent job of maintaining safe and hygenic practices considering current events. It feels like you get what you pay for at this hotel. The rooms are well kept, cleaned and aesthetically pleasing. The staff went above and beyond my expectations and are probably the major contributors to why the stay was so great. Our beachside server Edwin was top notch, offered recommendations, and was personable and friendly. The masseuse, Frida, was also much more than I expected. I've had many professional massages in the past and she didn't disappoint, specifically with the deep tissue/sports massage. If you get a chance don't pass it up. TDLR: Our stay was great, the venue was immaculate, the staff was top notch. I would definitely stay again. Shout out to Carla(reception), Edwin(Beachside server) and Frida(Massage Therapist). Thank you guys for the making our stay memorable.

We booked our villa for one week at Casa Ganesh. There was issue for the first night and was arranged to stay at their sister property at Alaya. The arrangement was communicated to us clearly before our trip.
We really enjoyed our stay at Alaya. There was a quick temperature check and hand sanitizing procedure before entering.
The friendly staff helped us to carry out luggage from our car to the room. The roads here are uneven (with sands, pot holes and gravels), there’s no need to bring the good luggage because you won’t be able to roll it.
We had a partial ocean view room with 2 queen beds, upstairs. Our room has a separate sitting area (room). So spacious!
No tv (we don’t need it) and note that no telephone in the order to call the front desk. So you need to physically walk to front desk if you need anything. The smoke alarm was beeping upon our arrival but the staff quickly fixed the problem by changing the battery.
We ended up watching sunrise in the room. We did keep our curtain closed most of the time because we could see other rooms across from ours.
Everything was clean. Hand sanitizer and surface disinfectant were provided courtesy of Alaya. I even found a small jar of mosquito repellent in the bathroom (you will need this here!!).
The design of the room is beautiful (with eco-friendly materials but not shabby). Water pressure in my room was good, with hot water.
There’s a small cafe on site and we enjoyed our lovely healthy breakfast next day at 11:30am.
In the afternoon, they set up lounge bed with umbrella on the beach for us. The water was 90F warm, clear and clean (seaweed season is over, yay!!) . The sand was soft.
The Beach Club could be improved a little. We wanted a food menu and it was not provided after asking twice. We did order our drinks and were delivered to our lounge bed on the beach. It’s not posh but the view was amazing.
Across the hotel, there’s a small “marketplace” with food stalls. Pharmacy is just near by. Very good location. I would stay here again for sure.

My wife and I spent 7 days at Alaya and had a really lovely experience. This place is really small and has a very chill vibe. Not the place to go if you are looking for a party or to meet other young people. Honestly, there are plenty of places like that in Tulum, so Alaya felt like a welcome refuge from all the blaring dance music coming from bars and restaurants. It is centrally located in the strip where the bulk of the restaurants are, but slightly down from the louder and larger places.
Our room (3) was one of the ocean view units, but not the ones that are closest to the beach. In my opinion, it was a much better value to be 10-20 feet farther and we had a great view. We even had a freshly laid turtle next roped off right next to our room. Very cool!
The staff members are amazingly friendly and accomodating. Everyone who works there went out of their way to be warm and welcoming. They take great care of the facility and everything is clean and well kept. The rooms are nice and comfortable. The beach is well kept and there are plenty of chairs to enjoy.
The little restaurant on property actually serves really above average food and drink for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I particularly liked the shrimp tacos and lime soup. Both were great! All the mixed drinks were well above average and you could always order food and drinks from the attentive servers working the beach if you don't want to sit at the restaurant.
There was a LOT of seaweed on the beach, but we appreciated that there were daily efforts to keep it at bay as many others we saw on the strip made no such efforts and there was no way to even get to the water.
They are really attentive to small things that make a difference. Down to the flowers they put in the water left outside your room to rinse your feet of sand. Totally unnecessary but lovely.
We only had a few minor issues. They shut off the AC units in the rooms during the day. While this makes sense from an energy savings perspective, guests should still be able to turn it on manually. Also, there is a larger room next to our unit. It has multiple floors and kitchen etc. Almost the whole time we were there, there was a large party occupying the space. They played inappropriately loud music during the day and were otherwise very noisy. It really brought a level of stress that was not what we were looking for and not in-line with the vibe.
Lastly, I want to thank Rodrigo, one of the managers, for making our experience even better. He is a wonderful guy and very knowledgeable about the area and local restaurants etc.

My family and I had the most amazing stay at Alaya Tulum. We stayed for several days so we switched out our room for a larger bed. Our first room on a second level had 2 full size beds and a view of the ocean with a patio to enjoy reading a book, sipping some wine, or just chilling with a book. The A/C runs only at night and turns off in the morning to save energy. The 2nd room we transferred to was on the bottom floor. It was more shaded and had more of a hut feeling. The room was also enjoyable, but the other towers kinda of shaded in the light.
There are no glass windows, only a screen, a shutter, roll down curtains, and sheer curtains. Considering there was no glass, the noise level was really kept to a minimum. It was just really peaceful.
The service is superb. The front desk was available on WhatsApp until 10pm so anything we needed was so easy to request.
There are no telephones and TVs in the room and I almost didn't realize that until a day later. But who needs it when the beach is only footsteps away.
I recommend you go out to look at the stars at night. There is no light pollution so you can see all the stars. It was beautiful.
We we visited and stayed at Alaya's sister hotel, Ahau Tulum, a few days later. In comparison there were many similarities, but we did enjoy the rooms at Alaya more.
Overall, my stay was heavenly and I definitely recommend Alaya.

This hotel gave me better service than expected. I had originally booked to stay in casa ganesh but as it was under construction during the week of my stay I was moved to Alaya. I was beyond pleased with the entire experience! Since I booked this vacation for my honeymoon my husband and I were greeted by a bottle of champagne in our room, every morning you have a complimentary drink of coffee, tea or fresh juice with homemade cookies brought to your room. Everything is extremely clean, all the toiletries are all natural with essential oil infusions. The natural mosquito spray is a god send. The entire staff was extremely helpful, they respond immediately to any WhatsApp message sent. They helped me so much from planning a night under the full moon at nomade to renting bikes for a morning ride along the strip. The happy hour drinks are so delicious made with the freshest ingredients. The yoga sessions every morning were so much fun! The surrounding restaurants are all so good as well. Will book again! Loved my stay here, thank you to the entire Alaya staff who made my honeymoon stay everything I hoped it would be!

My girlfriend and I stayed four nights at the Alaya Tulum. Overall our stay was excellent. The oceanview room was nicely appointed, clean, very comfortable and with a great patio overlooking the Caribbean Sea. This eco friendly hotel provided us with plenty of plastic free drinking water and other items such as eco friendly bug repellent. The service from the Transfer driver to the beach bar was all fantastic. We enjoyed drinks and elote on the beach each day and had a tasty breakfast at the hotel restaurant each morning. Carla at the front desk was extremely accomodating and helpful with all things Alaya as well as helping with tour bookings. We highly recommend Alaya Tulum, check it out!
