We stayed at Cancio's House in November 2021, and absolutely loved our stay there! It feels like a dear friend has invited you into their house. If you are looking for a hotel or resort where you get someone constantly serving you, this isn't the place for you. Go here for a homely, joyful and cultural experience of true Goa. You will get to stay in a historic house surrounded by nature, enjoy the pure well water, and hear beautiful stories from the family. You will get someone who cares for you and tells you to walk into their kitchen any time and take whatever you want. You will get to enjoy the amazing cooking of the host Racquel. There were some issues with our shower, and Roberto and Racquel were so nice, they brought us water in a bucket and also gave us a discount for that, without us asking for it.

Overall, I HIGHLY recommend this place for the true Goa experience. The village of Aldona where the House is located is also beautiful to get away from your regular life and from touristy Goa. You will definitely have a few friends by the end of this trip.

We wanted to visit somewhere for our anniversary, so after a lot of contemplation we had decided to go to our all time favourite destination, that is Goa. So, my wife had researched some places to explore in Goa, and she came up with this beautiful place in Aldona named Cancio's House. Cancio's House is much more beautiful than the pictures given in the website, and let me tell you what makes it much more beautiful is the hospitality of the hosts Roberto and Raquel, and their three beautiful children. They are such warm people who had made our anniversary feel at home, the surprise of a brownie cake for our anniversary stole our hearts. Roberto is a very enthusiastic and a person who likes to share stories, whereas Raquel is a sensitive woman who cooks amazing Goan dishes (all lot of things she had made which we had eaten) and she bakes delicious cakes and tarts. Fun fact is that Raquel and Roberto are a good team for a perfect bakery, one bakes and the other designs. The ambiance of the house and the hustle bustle of the kids gives you the feel of a home in Goa. My wife loved this place ; for her it is a perfect place for writing and reading, as she reminds me of the quote of William Wordsworth, "spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings".

We spent a very restful and enjoyable week here. The room was large with a very comfortable, large bed, facing onto a beautiful garden, full of beautiful flowers, mature trees, and a chorus of birds every morning. The owners stress the sustainability of their house. The clean and fresh water is sourced from their own well and is heated by solar panels. Seemingly, some parts of the house date back to pre-Portuguese times. The owners house exudes charm and an old world atmosphere. But what made our stay really pleasant was the many interesting conversations we had with our hosts and family at mealtime. Yes, the matron of the house will serve meals in their home upon request, and she is an excellent cook. There is also an excellent restaurant within easy walking distance nearby called Charlies. So if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Panjim and the coast, this is the place to go.

Set in the beautiful village of Aldona, this is a well maintained ancestral home with origins stretching back to pre-Portuguese times. Currently, there are two rooms set in a verdant, multiflorous, manicured garden, my wife and I were content to spend the days sat in front of our rooms, reading, taking in the atmosphere and chatting to our lovely next door neighbour.
Meals are taken in the home and with the family and are stunning examples of home cooked Goan delicacies, some of the best I have tasted in nearly 3 decades of coming to Goa. All the family are very pleasant, both human and animal, and we enjoyed long, leisurely breakfasts.
A highlight of our trip was the early evening stroll around the village, chatting with the friendly locals and admiring the gardens. There's a good Goan café, name escapes me, and some good food stalls in the centre. All in all, this place is recommended.

Room Tip: Despite being kept very clean, there are quite a few mosquitoes so bring some Odomos or similar.

This place was recommended to us by my husband's Goan friends, and we are so glad we got to stay at Cancio's Home hosted by Mr Roberto and his wife Mrs Raquel. On contacting Mr. Roberto through mobile, he quickly accommodated our request to stay within a days time. His whole family made us super comfortable & welcome within having one meal with them. We spent alot of time getting to know them over lovely Goan fish, prawns and chicken delicacies prepared by Raquel. Raquel was so kind to make all food gluten free as per my request. The cottage we stayed in was an old mill, converted and furnished in an old Portuguese style which suited our taste and love for old architecture. Very airy, hygienic, neat and clean with all amenities. The property is 500 years old, fully sustainable and solar powered, which is commendable because Mr. Roberto takes care of his home's upkeep himself labouring in it with great love and care. The main house and property itself is beautifully landscaped with gardens and is a joy to explore. My husband and I loved chilling with the pets Pepper and Oreo, and we got to make a lot of conversation, see alot of antiques, old family photos(Raquel & the matriarch Mrs. Amaral, both looked so regal in their wedding gowns!) and get to know the roots of the Amaral family. This made us feel a part of the family, and I wish Mr. Roberto, his wife Raquel and his family all the best for their venture. They are a very large hearted family, and we would love to visit them again especially during Christmas. Thank you for making our stay so special.

Being enveloped by the warmth and hospitality of the Amaral family in their heritage home is an experience to cherish. Delicious home cooked meals at their kitchen table, cool water from their spring fed well, the verdant surroundings, the friendly animals - all make it so special.
The cottage we stayed in is a repurposed rice mill -now a spacious and comfortable living space with a four poster bed and other well chosen pieces of furniture.
The immaculate laundering process for all their linen, good wifi and eco friendly practices are also worth noting.
Raquel and Roberto - Hat's off to all your efforts and thanks for opening your home to us fortunate souls!

My friend and I were looking to unwind and explore the non beach side of Goa and Cancio's House was just that!
Not only the hosts- Roberto and Raquel make everything extra special for you, the place itself is warm, amidst nature and quiet. The meals with the whole family was our favourite part of the trip and they were very considerate of out dietary requirements. Would definitely recommend this place for a little bit of history, architecture and a lot of conversations!

Staying at Cancio’s House was an exceptional experience, and I highly recommend it to travelers who love exploring the lesser-known parts of Goa. Roberto and Raquel were incredibly sweet and accommodating, making me feel like I was visiting my own family. Interacting with their family, enjoying delicious home-cooked meals, and being surrounded by adorable dogs and sweet grandmothers and their grandchildren created a heartwarming and joyful atmosphere. This fun and warm family provided a genuine homestay experience. If you're a nature lover, this place is a must-visit—a true slice of heaven. I can't wait to visit again!

A wonderfully warm and hospitable home with hosts that taken you into the fold, ply you with homemade food and make you feel instantly at home - that’s Cancio’s house for you. It was the second time staying with them for us and we felt even more at home than before. The family will include their guests, if they do wish, into the celebrations that they host for family and friends. You walk into their kitchen to get your breakfast or tea and can let your hair down in the lush greenery of their well-kept garden. If you’re looking for a homely break for some R&R , then look no further!

This house was in my go to list from years. From the moment you step into their house , you will feel a sense of belonging to something extraordinary. Roberto and Raquel will make you feel like you have been coming to this house for years. The warmth of conversations with Roberto and the magic of Raquel's food is definitely a Godly match. The house in itself is beautiful and it's like a treasure trove from past. It's like a mini museum of things passed to them by legacy.
The rooms are very spacious and have their own personal entrance. Rest of the house is so magnificent as well. The view from the balcony is spectacular . Especially in the morning. The garden around the house is thriving with greens and amazing bird life. The house is in a part of Goa which is very quiet. It's a perfect vacation house. It is a perfect balance of luxury and sustainability. This is the part of Goa which everyone should atleast experience once. The hospitality and the luck of experiencing the actual Goan life can only be felt in homes like this one. Their many pets and Roberto's mom conversations are like cherry on a cake.
We ate our lunches and breakfasts here and the food is something you can never be disappointed in this house. The sheer extensive dishes prepared just fot the two of us was a showcase of their love they shower on all the guests. She made delectable desserts for us and the taste is impossible to find even in finest bakeries. I can't wait to go here again and enjoy the company of these beautiful people.
