We received a warm welcome. No fuss, just directed to our pre- booked room room which was clean comfortable and had good complementary toiletries and hospitality tray. The bed had a wooden frame around it which took a while t get used to - a few bruises here. Evening meal in the restaurant was very good. Service was friendly and...

Quickest checkin ever. Adequate room. Good breakfast Terrific spot to start numerous walks of varying difficulty. Great pub food. We took public transport from London ( train and bus) and had no difficulty in finding the hotel even though it is in the middle of the Lake District.

Our party of six arrived at the inn on foot after a long walk. The bar was rammed and the terrace at the front was pretty full. However, some very welcome tea and refreshments were eventually served. Our twin room was small but comfortable and it had evidently been recently refurbished. Everything in the bathroom worked just fine. The restaurant...

The Inn is old and full of character, in a beautiful place. We would stay again, but the room we stayed in, was actually part of the fire escape! a breakable globe on the outside of the door allowed our door to be opened from the outside, to allow fellow guests to escape through our window, not an arrangement seen...

Me, my partner and our son have just returned from a two night stay at the Britannia. This was our first stay at the pub however we have been to eat and drink there on a number of occasions so we knew what the building was like. The rooms are cosy and it accommodated a travel cot well without us...

Great food, great service and really great quality beer. (CAMRA Good Beer guide 2017). Don't be put off when you see what looks like a full pub inside the front door - there's plenty of room in there. But it's worth booking if you are the 'planning ahead' type.

We used to come to this pub 32 years ago and we loved it. A very traditional country pub with great food and great beer. The beer and food is still great but 32 years on the pub could do with a bit of a make over (same carpets, same decor in the dining room, same toilets etc) as it...

We stayed in the Elterwater area for a week and visited the Britannia inn on several occasions. Great beer and food - we very much enjoyed the fish and chips, burger and one of the specials of half a chicken in a basket. Staff always very friendly. Great atmosphere on each occasion and lots of outside seating if weather permits...

Our first impressions of the Britannia Inn were not great (see below) but it ended up being one of our favorite places on our entire month long trip. The location on the quiet side of the Lake District, in an area with wonderful walks was great. Also, it seemed to attract a great group of people who were all English...

We didn't stay here, just ate. The staff were very friendly, and the food was ok. At peak times it gets busy, so you'll probably need to book to sit in the 'restaurant' section. Otherwise, sit in one of the bars or outside and take pot luck.
