Amazing property with all the amenities. It is a bit far from Kona but if you have time and a car, it is not a big deal. LOVED the comfortable room, the generous balcony with a "bed" type lounger for chilling with a coffee and just looking at the ocean. Restaurants onsite were fine, but nothing special and hours/opening days are problematic. Breakfast buffet is way overpriced, but it is quite comprehensive. All the items were very good. Room service took forever and then wasn't accurate. They then wouldn't fix the order without more charges. Very unprofessional and unlike paradise. Bell staff and housekeeping were super!

I want to give this resort five stars and the staff six stars. Everyone was amazing. I want to give mention to Anita at the front desk and Trina at the Bell desk. I had read reviews that the hotel was not close to many other restaurants. I found it all the high-end resorts are located by themselves. Of my six nights we two nights at pool bar, restaurant and last night at Marida. Both were very good. I am a Marriott Bonvoy, platinum member and many of the reviews regarding the complementary platinum breakfast. We’re negative. I think the platinum breakfast for no charge normally $30 was very good. You were brought a tray of pastry a tray of fresh fruit that is unlimited, yogurt and granola, parfait along with hot oatmeal. If you want eggs, you can pay $25 and have the full buffet. Another benefit of this hotel is that they share reciprocity with the Muana Kea resort 1 mile away. There is a nightly complementary shuttle from the Westin to the Mona Kia, starting at 5 PM. Had dinner at the Copper bar and highly recommend it. I do think that the extra cost for an Oceanview is well worth it

What we liked: 1. The staff was all very friendly and helpful 2. We got upgraded upon our arrival 3. The leis were a nice touch. We got them upon arrival along with a cold towel and a glass of juice. 4. The pool and hot tub were great 5. The room was large with a great bathroom with both a bath and walk in shower 6. They had a kettle if you wanted to make tea. 7. The AC worked well and was easy to work 8. The lanai was very nice, including a table and 2 bar chairs so we could see the ocean views as well as a chaise. 9. Beautiful beach and grounds were well kept. 10. Wonderful long views. We loved seeing the sunset every night! 11. Great cappuccinos at a reasonable price 12. The food at Naupaka was very good. 13. Self parking was great as it was in the underground garage and was shaded. The Valet parking left the cars in the full sun. On the negative side… 1. Found some roaches in our room. One 15 minutes after we arrived, giving the benefit of doubt as it moved so fast I couldn’t see it clearly. The first morning at 6:45 am after waking up, I found one staring at me. on the headboard of the bed. I took a pic and went straight to the front desk. They quickly moved us to another room and gave us a $100 credit to spend at the hotel. So, their reaction was excellent. It is just too bad that it happened. 2. The new room they gave us had issues with the room key. So more time wasted as they first rekeyed the room and then sent a technician to change the battery on the unit. The next day they did more work in the afternoon when we were resting. ( they had said between 9-2 and we were after 2 pm). So another distruption. 3. On our 3rd day in the morning we were startled by an 3 loud beeps followed by an alert asking people to vacate the hotel, using the stairs. We were getting our important things together, thinking maybe it was a fire when it was cancelled. That was okay but on our 4th day they repeated the 3 loud beeps followed by the message to vacate the hotel for about 2 hours in the mid morning. We were by the pool and finally asked a staff who said it was a test. We don’t understand why it needed to last 2 hrs. And, again, at 8:45pm that night, 3 loud beeps. We both jumped as we were relaxing in our room. I can’t imagine having young kids falling asleep being woken up by this loud noise. All in all, a lovely resort. But these events I mentioned above did take away from our enjoyment of the property, hence the 4*

We stayed here 5 nights and were very impressed. The rooms are modern and well furnished as was our porch which had a very good view of ocean and beach given that it was a “partial view”. The staff is very friendly. Grounds are beautiful. Breakfast buffet was included in our room rate and was a joy to sample every morning. Every evening they had live entertainment in the outdoor covered lobby bar which added a great mellow vibe. We had a couple meals at the outdoor pool bar/restaurant by the ocean which was very nice. We didn’t eat at the signature restaurant at dinner as it seemed a bit high end and gourmet to us. There are many great and less expensive places to eat and drink within 10 to 30 minute drive. North, or to Waimea, or back south. Roads have little traffic and easy to drive. One improvement could be to add more umbrellas at adult pool and to heat it slightly, as it was on the cold side. We definitely highly recommend.

We just came back from a lovely stay at the Westin Hapuna beach. While the hotel is beautiful and the room was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed the option for an adults only pool - However, I really wanted to write this review because the hotel employees were above and beyond. Florence the assistance manager was so attentive and helpful and made our stay truly amazing. And Megan the concierge was probably the best I've ever had the pleasure of working with!! Everyone should go get recs from her, she pointed us in the right direction for food, activities and of course top notch shaved ice that we visited multiple times! Thanks again to everyone at the Westin!

In our recent experience, this hotel went above and beyond in caring about its guests, from the flower lei greeting to the attentive staff. Due to our member status, they upgraded us to a suite. The room was very spacious and well-appointed, right down to the umbrella in the closet. The concierges were all so informative and helpful. When we had a bit of an issue at breakfast, they were quick to address the problem and went above and beyond to make things right. We loved watching the sunset from this absolutely gorgeous property. It can be a bit far from Kona town but the food on property is very nice, so sticking around makes for a relaxing stay, and Waimea is pretty close. We definitely will return!!

The view is 5 star. The rooms are essentially Courtyards. The food was horrible. I had a steak, ordered medium-rare, it came raw. If you break down the menu, it is fried foods. On a positive note, good salads. We ended up going to the Queens Market in Waikoloa and living off the fresh made Poke and salads. The golf course was top notch, The Hapuna Course was nicely kept, and the people were very nice and the course was technically challenging.

The resort is very large and was recently remodeled. The rooms are large and comfortable, with good ocean views. Beach access is easy, and there are loungers, etc available. The beach is large and not too crowded except toward the State Park on the south end. The open lobby area is attractive, as are the views from there. The restaurants are fine but not exceptional. The service is friendly. There are two pools - an adult pool and a family pool. There are very few loungers at the adult pool, and they are filled up early in the morning. It is rather odd for such a large resort to have such a low capacity. There is more capacity at the family below lower down, but the decking was being replaced and the noise of the jackhammers was unbearable. It was quite difficult to enjoy either pool, which was rather frustrating. It is a fairly easy and interesting walk on a hiking trail to the Mauna Kea Resort.

I am a lifetime Marriott Platinum Elite member, and I have spend thousands of nights at Marriott Bonvoy properties over the years. My recent experience at this Westin hotel was amongst the worst I have had. We had a reservation for 8 nights, and we actually left the hotel after 3 nights because we were so incredibly frustrated. The facility is in a beautiful location, yet the property is old and not well maintained. The toilet in our room was in disrepair and was not resolved despite our reporting it. The staff in the breakfast restaurant was actually rude. The host (Mark) was particularly unpleasant. Instead of greeting us in the morning, he complained about his job and said that he really didn't want to be there. The complimentary breakfast food for Elite members was pre-packed and not at all appetizing - even the fruit was not fresh and inconsistent, which is very surprising for Hawaii. Overall the service in the hotel restaurant was slow and inconsistent. The property pool deck was being replaced, so there was loud noise of jackhammers throughout our stay. There were no towels available at the beach, and the beach furniture was old and dirty. We were told to go to the pool if we wanted towels, and the beach staff was rude. There were two solid days of fire alarm testing (Jan 30 and 31) which took several hours each day. The gym on the property was not clean, and I reported this to the attendant on duty but nothing was done after 3 days. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel and I intend to notify Marriott management about our extremely disappointing service. The Front Desk manager did remove the resort charges and parking charges as an accommodation, but the was not at all sufficient to offset the highly disappointing experience during our stay.

As a lifetime Platinum member of Marriott loyalty program, this was the very worst experience that I have ever had at one of their properties, and I am astonished by the positive reviews that others have left. It is hard to know where to begin with the critique. While the location is beautiful, the property itself is very dated and felt like a low-end Sheraton and not a Westin. The service levels and friendliness of staff was far below Westin normal level, and way below what I have experienced at other resorts in Hawaii. The continental breakfast for 'Platinum' members was terrible... the breads were all food service and the fruit was not good at all (which is crazy fo Hawaii). The beach chairs were old and dirtry with no beach drink or food services. To make matters worse, there was construction at the pool with jack-hammering all day long. Then there was a fire drill/ emerency sirens on for hours at a time. While I understand the need to renovate, there was no notice give of this before check-in or when I checked in and no apologies to guests. The overall experience was so bad that I checked-out one day early and found a much better hotel on Big Island... I literally could not take it anymore, and the experience really ruined my vacation.
