Detailed Reviews
Leave the A75 at Glenluce and follow the road up the Luce Valley to New Luce. You will pass the atmospheric, medieval, remains of Glenluce Abbey on your way. The Kenmuir Arms has been sympathetically refurbished to a high standard in this conservation village. The hotel is welcoming, dog friendly, and serves a very good lunchtime menu.

Staying near the pub, we've been in for breakfast once which offered a nice selection, dogs are welcome in the snug (bar area) with a good selection of family games and kids activities as well as an upmarket snack menu. We enjoyed the Indian tasting menu earlier in the week and tonight we had the chefs culinary tour of Dumfries and Galloway - absolutely outstanding. My husband and I enjoy Al la carte food quite regularly but we have never had a menu this good, particularly for the £45 price tag. It's 8 courses and each one comes with an introduction and some information about the locality or source. Double the price would still be worth it. If this kind of food isn't your usual, please don't shy away from it. The menu still provided wholesome nods to hearty food (venison, chocolate mousse etc). The service was very good with staff noting if we needed additional drinks, taking plates away quickly, friendly attitudes. Well worth a visit, even just to try something new if it isn't your usual style. £45 for an 8 course meal of this standard blows my mind.

What an absolute gem of a place. The Kenmuir Arms is tasteful from the moment you step through the door. Everywhere is beautifully decorated and co-ordinated. We were greeted warmly by the host and hostess and nothing was too much trouble. We asked for the bed to be turned into 2 singles as we were friends travelling together and within 15 mins it was done while we sat in the lovely garden overlooking the river. The bedroom.was very comfortable with the now converted beds, a modern sofa and 2 comfy chairs by the window looking out over the river and village. The meals we had while staying there were superb and Chris the chef certainly knows how to put together a wonderful tasty meal and even went out of his way to prepare special dishes for my veggie friend. Prices for food were also very reasonable. A truly wonderful find and deserves all the accolades it's earned in the last year. Thank you so much

Sadly disappointed
Ordered oysters for starter, all you get is two edible biscuits with a teaspoon of oyster moose on top witch didn't even taste of oyster, yet we have one of the best oyster beds in the world within 10 miles Why not supply the real thing? second course Lamb to witch i got two postage size pieces one had sinew in it a a large piece of un rendered fat the other small piece i struggled to cut through it so all in all not good.
I should really have sent it back.

Thank you for your review. However unjust it may be. The oyster dish consisted of 2 edible oyster shells, thay we make edible filled with an oyster panna cotta. As for having one of the best oyster beds in the world on or door step that may be true. It will be of no surprise to you that these oysters do not stay I stranraer but are shipped to sommerset to be cleaned then dispatched to London restaurants in the most part. For us to purchase them they would need to be frozen. Therefor we opt for Cumbrae Oysters from the same coastline and fresh. As for the Lamb you had a loin cooked mid rare and a confit belly thay is cooked for 12.5 hours how after 12.5 hours of cooking this can not be rendered is unbeknownst to me. Perhaps the real issue is you came on an evening when the rugby was on the bar was full and noise was a bit overwhelming. You issue isn't really with the food but with the atmosphere which I completely understand. As you can see from other reviews our standard of food is well above others in the region. We have a consistent product that rarely lacks. Hence why I know exactly when you dined with us and why you left. Normally I would apologise and make an effort to correct any issues, when there is a genuine issue

An outstanding evening meal that surpassed the expectations of both of us. The recently renovated restaurant was tastefully decorated and suited the environment.
For my starter I chose the Tartare of Belted Galloway with the most amazing Game Chips and Hollandaise sauce flavoured with turmeric. This is the only occasion I have had cause to complement a restaurant on the quality of their game chips! My companion chose the Home Cured Salmon with Salmon Caviar, which was a perfect start for her meal.
Following this she had the Torched Cod with Aloo Gobi (curried potatoes) and Fish Skin Crackers with the fish cooked to perfection. My Chicken Fillets were wrapped around Smoked Salmon and Asparagus Spears and this was a fantastic combination.
The menu was varied including pub classics designed to satisfy a wide range of tastes. Chris the chef and Tony were welcoming and are obviously keen to encourage customers both local and from farther afield.
We wish them every success and we shall definitely be back.

The Kenmuir Arms, well what an absolute diamond of a place from the location, the rooms, the staff and the welcoming we received. The food is 5* and nothing is too much trouble for the staff, Tony and Chris (Chef) are amazing hosts, apologise I cannot remember the young waitress's name but she was lovely. The room was lovely welcoming, clean and we had the best nights sleep after a long drive. Highly recommend this gem of a place and if we are ever back in the area we will definitely be calling in to say hello and sample more of the menu ... Thank you Kenmuir Arms for making us so welcome..

Please go and stay at this little gem. This was our second stay. We stayed at Easter, and just come back today from a short Whit Break. Food is perfect cannot fault a single meal. Accommodation is very tastefully Scottish. The staff are just amazing. We were both sad to leave. Chris and his team make you feel so special. Hopefully we will return, im sure we will.

As a special treat we tried the 8 course set menu at the Kenmuir Arms. The dinning experience from start to finish was just fabulous. The head waiter was charming and very entertaining. He took time to explain each of the eight courses in great detail which added to the all round experience. The chef also came to our table and chatted with our friends about the food he had prepared for us. It was a very memorable experience. Thanks to everyone at the Kenmuir Arms for being so passionate about food. We will be back for more.

We were given two nights here as a gift, so can’t claim the credit of finding the Kenmuir Arms. The setting is beautiful on the river Luce with gorgeous views. The hotel has been renovated and decorated superbly. The room we stayed in was very comfy with coffee maker, bottles of water. It had a great shower and lovely toiletries. The food was glorious. We ventured for the tasting menu and it was excellent, with Chris explaining each dish. Chris and Tony were fantastic hosts. Off the beaten track but well worth it.

We stayed here a couple of nights. Lovely room in a beautiful location. Great hosts!
Breakfast was fantastic, good choice and excellent quality!
Evening menu was a set menu with various options of 2,3, 4 + courses. All food was made with good quality ingredients. Delicious!
Restaurant area very comfy seats overlooking the river.
Could do with a wider range of dry gins good offering of flavoured ones tho.
