This lodge is great for seeing lots of macaques in the jungle around the lodge. There are also large monitor lizards and bearded wild boar families around. With at least 2 canoe trips each day to differnet parts of the river as well as times, we were able to see so much. The kingfishers asleep on branches on a night...

No wi fi or TV and one night stay was long enough. Wine can only be purchased by the bottle which is annoying and very little hot water in the bathroom. Buffet meals were just ok and lacking in variety and substance. Rooms had a musty smell and necessity for windows to be closed to keep monkeys out and no...

Stayed here for two nights as part of an organised trip, with all meals and trips included Rooms were basic but had all you needed (no hairdryer). We paid for air conditioning, which we thought was well worth it Lodge has a good walking trail and a bird watching platform which we enjoyed, and lots of flowers which attract butterflies. A...

We stayed at Abai as part of a conducted tour, one night at the lodge and some river safaris from it. The lodge is clean comfortable and well managed. The is abundant wildlife and a trail to follow to see more. A lovely evening meal and plentiful breakfast looking over the river. A great part of our safari.

Obviously one stays at Abai Jungle Lodge for the boat trips to view wildlife along the river. The proboscis monkeys are the stars, with their comic faces. The accommodation is basic but serves the purpose. Food was surprisingly good. Between boat trips, though, we sat in the shade on the deck by the river and watched the water go by....

We stayed one night at Abai Jungle Lodge as part of our tour package. We were transferred from Sandakan by boat which was a lovely journey down the Kinabatangan River. We had some time to relax when we arrived and then we took the boats out along the river to look for wildlife. We spotted several species of monkey and...

I was concerned that we wouldn't see as much here as it was not as deep in the jungle as other places...I was very wrong. This place was amazing! Tons of monkeys and birds onsite (and wild bearded pig and water monitors and frogs and snakes! There was even a leopard the night before we arrived!) The boardwalks are great...

we stayed here for two nights in late February and wished we had stayed at least one more night. Although it was off season and very quiet (it also rained a bit!) the staff were very attentive. The cabins are simple but clean and functional (plenty of hot water, a reasonable shower and so on) The food was very tasty...

In 2015, I spent two nights at Abai. This trip, we spent one night at Abai and then traveled by boat upriver for two nights at SI Tour's other lodge in Sukau. I think spending time between the two places maximizes one's chance for wildlife spotting. We had a really great trip: pygmy elephants; mother and baby orangutan; 6 hornbill...

This jungle lodge is exactly that, a lodge in the middle of the rainforest, that brings you closer to nature than you might wish. Nature does truely extend into the centre of the lodge, whether in the form of snakes, monkeys, lizards or insects. You could be inches away from something poisonous! For the short duration of your stay the...
