Awesome stay at Casero Kolkham booking done through Mr Shantanu Paul and the warm receptive nature of Mr Haribahadur and his family who took care of everything during our stay. Locations and view are superb we were lucky on the final day to get the full view of Kanchanjunga as the sky was clear... If you are booking this homestay then go for the upper deck only as the view is awesome from small attic room which is available only on the upper deck. We got to stay day one on the upper deck and day 2 on the lower deck ( ground floor) .

We Had Booked 3 Rooms (of the Total 4) for Just One Night Stay at Casero Kolakham .... The Owner Mr.Santanu Paul Did All He Could To Help With the Bookings .... ** As He Stays Abroad, We were Initially Sceptical of What We would Finally Experience .... Once We Reached Kolakham on 17th October, 2019, It was Just Fabulous from the Word Go .... The Caretaker Hari Ji Was So Welcoming, Since We Entered the Premises .... Very Cozy & Wooden Panelled Rooms, with Clean Bathrooms .... Great Ambience & Simple yet Delicious Food were Added Bonuses .... And, The Bumper Bonus We Got isn't always there for Hill Lovers, even if They Stay put at Such Picturesque Destinations (like Kolakham), for 3-4 Nights at a Stretch .... We Got Quite a Beautiful Glimsp of the Mighty Mt.Kanchenjunga the Next Morning itself (18th October, 2019) .... ** Though Not the Best .... But, Right From The Bedside Windows & From the Balconies .... And, That's the Reason Why We Are again Planning to get Back to Casero Anytime Soon .... Thank You Santanu Paul Da & Hari Ji ....

Casero is a wonderful place to stay at Kolakham. Kolakham is a remote spot in the lava in the state of West Bengal. However, is a spot close to Kanchanjunga. Casero provides a spot such that you can enjoy valley view right from the room itself. Rooms are creatively designed to give a good seat for sunrise over kanchanjunga. It has a beautiful garden as well that they have maintained. However, the place itself is very remote and dwe cannot expect much more than basic amenities which they are supplying well. Natives cook food and serve. Food have nice native taste and flavour. We must order breakfast, lunch, snaks and dinner before hand to enable them arrange accordingly. However there is nothing much to do in the evening. NB _ Road to Kolakham is under construction, only SUV can travel and not recommended for elderly people. Keep necessary medicines handy.

The homestay has one of the best locations in Kolakham but the place is badly managed and poorly maintained. The bedsheets are of poor quality (with stains) and beds are very hard to sleep on. Towels are not properly washed. They provide you only one towel and we had to request for one more as we were 3 guests. The bathroom is stinking and needs proper attention to make it functional. The wash basin tap water outlet flows on the floor of the bath room. The furniture include a small plastic table to keep few stuffs and two plastic chairs (and one was broken and I fell down as it cracked). No mirror in the room but one in the bathroom. The room is very small to allow you any movement. The carpet inside the room has come out and you have to be very careful not to cause any accident. You have to climb a non-step pathway from the main road to reach the property. The pathway to the room is also broken on the ground floor level and you have to be careful to avoid an accidental tripping. The property is a real challenge if you have older person with you. However, you can sit in the balcony facing the Kanchanjungha range and enjoy the tranquillity of the place. The road to Lava from Bagdogra is real bad once you cross Gorubathan with bumpy boulders on which you have to drive and the road from Lava to Kolakham (10km) is worse. To reach Kolakham from Bagdogra, you will require at least 5 hours and a very good vehicle. a small vehicle is a strictly "No". The food is just okay with standard egg curry in the lunch and Roti and chicken curry in the dinner and Puri bhaji or Alu paratha is the breakfast. Food cost is reasonable. Not worth. There are better homestays nearby to explore.

This is regarding the terrible vacation experience that I had which started with Casero Kolakham. I had advanced the entire amount to the owner in Mar-18. This vacation was with my brother's family. The following are the details of my experience: Despite advancing the entire amount in Mar-18, I was suddenly told to provide another INR 6000 with strange pretext of GST and rates changing etc. Anyway, I did that and had repeatedly asked for a receipt which I never got. He was supposed to have a pickup ready at Bagdogra. Even on the eve of the journey, I did not have any details. After repeated follow-ups I got a contact number on Whatsapp. That person in turn gave the number of another person, who in turn said that he was looking for an available driver. We managed one driver finally who said that he would pick us up. 2. On 20-Oct, when we arrived at Bagdogra, the driver said that he will not go till the hotel, but would drop us at Damdim. Another car came, we transferred our luggage and two families shifted to that car. This car also did not go the entire way, but dropped us a Lava Bazaar at 7:30 PM in the night, which was very cold. Another car came which finally took us to Casero Kolakham. On reaching there, we realized that he had let out the room which we had booked to Mr Bhattacharya (please refer to the review by bhattacharjeepar2017 in Tripadvisor). Both our families faced enormous issues with the mess this person had created. The mess for my brother's family and mine did not end here. The main reason is I had asked this person to help book the hotels at Rishop and Kalimpong. On reaching there, I understood that this person had transferred the money for hotel booking only about a week before my journey (although the money was advanced long back). As a result we did not get a single hotel stay in Rishop for 2 days. Instead it was one day each at a hotel in Rishap. At the end I would like to thank the following persons who were of immense help during this stay: 1. Hari Bahadhur - the person who along with his family actually looks after Casero Kolakham and tried his best to help is 2. Gangey Rai - he is the gentleman who helped to arrange the hotels and was very cooperative. To summarize: 1. Please be extremely careful if you are booking in Casero Kolakham as chances are that the same room would be rented to two different persons on the same day 2. You may not get any receipt (as it happened with me) for the money advanced. I also did not get any break-up of the amount for each hotel (in Rishop and Kalimpong) If you want to visit Kolakham, please get the contact numbers of the locals - they will never deceive you.

Thank you Mr. Bagchi, for your kind review. Our reply as follows- 1. You booked the rooms initially at 2017 October which is very crucial time for hotel booking, due to some personal reasons at the last moment your family could not check in, as per hotel policy mentioned to you by mail, no Amount will be refunded for No Show, its quite obvious for all Hoteliers. But apart from that based on your personal request, service delivery, we adjusted / refunded the Entire Booking amount of Rs. 12750/- and hold the your entire Booking till 2018, Also we offered you to cancel the booking for 2017 if you need so. Difference of Fare changes Rs. 6000/- only being collected from you, Although no other hotels refunded the amount, but on your behalf we consumed the entire amount, not to put any stress on our guests. There was no such strange pretext as you mentioned here, all is being confirmed and accepted by you well ahead of your Journey starts. At the last moment you added your Brothers family to join with you and you need side by side room in all the hotels, during this Puja vacation, That too we arranged, although your booking was for 1 upper floor and 1 ground floor rooms, as mentioned in mail. Please do not misguide / mislead other travelers, 2. We provide you the drivers details , contact number etc, well in advance, and the charges for 02 points pick up Bagdogra, and NJP , drop at Casero Kolakham at odd hours at night 8 pm, you did not agree to that , rather tried on your own to get a cab at NJP, we provided you another number also, finally you faced lot of hassles to reach at Kolakham at night, Thats why we suggested you the number to take a direct cab and reach at Kolakham, as it is inside Forest Area. We are not a vehicle owner or Travel agent, only we can provide you service , by sharing known driver's details and feasible charges. We only suggest you the vehicles which goes direct pick and drop. Please do understand prior to put up any adverse reviews. 3. It is quiet natural that we transferred the amount 01/02 weeks prior to your check in, because at the last moment you cancelled the journey in 2017 and all our money is forfeited on your behalf. We can not repeat the same again. Also for all the hotels you will be not be getting side by side rooms for both of your families, Everything being communicated to you and confirmed by you through mail, whats app, call etc, each and every time 4. You had one room upper floor and one room ground floor room booking, please do not ask for 02 adjacent room at the last moment, its quiet difficult, although we adjusted finally, with in 01 hour of check in. We must mention , all the persons helped you for the entire stay is our service providers only. Please do not mention/ provoke or mislead other Customers for your personal anxieties, There are lots of Reviews available for our service delivery etc. Finally we regret for your inconveniences faced for some other resources, but we always try to provide our best services. Regards

I happened to stay in this hotel with my family from 20th to 22nd October,2018. While the owner sits at Kolkata, a Nepali couple runs the show. They have lot of complaints against the owner. Rooms are shabby and the food quality bad. I had made initial payment in the month of June'2018 and was given to understand by the owner that my booking is confirmed. Accordingly , I went to Kolakham. However to my utmost surprise I was told over phone at around 8.30 in the night on 20th October, by the owner that I am to submit additional amount immediately to stay in the property. One can well imagine the difficulty in transferring payment in such remote place with little mobile connectivity. However, I still managed to transfer the amount demanded by the so called owner within a short time.My question is once I booked for the property, he accepted the initial payment and I was given to understand that required payment is made and never given indication to the fact that more payment was needed. In fact I was in complete dark about this balance payment story. Such unscrupulous attitude from a man who is in hospitality industry is deplorable. I happened to meet another group of tourist who also had bad experience with the said person. We are frequent travelers, but have never experienced such awkward situation. I would never like to stay in any property owned or managed by this unscrupulous person.

Thank you sir for your kind review. As we understand that you have occupied with more guests without any prior intimation/ information to the booking authority which we came to know at late night. We mentioned clearly in the offer , all terms and conditions, and everything proceeded with your prior confirmation, by mail, whats app, call etc. We do not accept any cash / card payment after check in for room tariff, what we mentioned in offer. To confirm the rooms you must clear the room tariff in full prior to check in, which is quiet obvious for any hotelier, Hence the mismatch and alternative rooms are being provided. We support distinct and clear booking policy for ease of service delivery. Lots of reviews available regarding our room and service. Kindly do not misguide other prospects with your self misunderstanding. we regret for your inconveniences and due to the same we always mention details in booking policy. Regards

Simply a mind blowing experience we had over there. We booked well advanced to ensure it's availability and after attending we are really overwhelmed by the hospitality and services of Casero Kolakham. The food they served were too good and enough to lick our fingertips till the end. The view right from the balcony of Casero Kolakham mesmerized us and we were one of the lucky ones who got a chance to see the mighty Kanchenjungha even in the weather of monsoon. In overall it was a great experience to be in Casero Kolakham.

Isolation is key to Kolakham, a tiny hamlet in the Neora Valley. Quaint little home-stays dot this village. Casero is one such homestay, perched on a hill. Please do not expect any frills here. The rooms are basic, but warm. The bathroom is basic and there is a water issue because water supply is poor to the entire village. There was no hot water but they will arrange for the same if you ask. We stayed on the ground floor room, which had a small sit-out in front, which on a clear day affords great views of the Kanchenjunga. But no such luck for us ! There is a cozy attic room on the floor above. There isn't much to do except for to soak up the mint air of the place and take a few lazy walks through the village. Mr Rai was a very sincere host and Mr Paul who owns the property was very helpful. The only draw-back is the tedious 1 hour long journey into Kolakham from Lava, because of the awful road conditions.

Excelent atmosphere..simple but tasty food. The owner of the hotel mr. Santanu Paul is a very helpful person. The view from this property is just mesmerising...one can never forget. The double attic room in the upper floor is the main attraction, view of kanchanjunga and lava monastry from the window are just breathtaking...In front of the bunglow there is place for bonfire, bbq.Even the caretaker Hari and his wife serves the best. From njp one can contact mr Hari directly. He can arrange a car for picking up and charged 3500.The nearby attractions are changey falls, neora valley(u need to get permit to enter in the core area),lava monastry, rishyap and mainly the scenic beauty of beautiful yet now unexplored simplicity of nature mother...luv it a lot.
