There are 2 negative points 1) The hotel oes not have a lift and lower floor rooms do not have a good view. 2) The road that leads to the hotel from the main road is very steep uphill and bumpy. Hence, the hotel is not suggested for elderly people or people who cannot climb up and down.
The rooms are quite spacious with TV . They will provide room heater if required. 24 hrs hot and cold water is available. The place is very serene and calm. The food available is very limited and basic. Not much variety is available. However, the quality is good. There are though few nearby small restaurants which also serve good food. There is no bar in the hotel but one can get liquor from nearby shops which is just downhill on the main road. The price they charge is also reasonable.
The behaviour of the staffs are good and they are cooperative. Room rents are reasonable. Brekfast is complimentary with very limited menu. There is a big terrace on the top floor where you can sit and enjoy the serene beauty of nature in green mountains all around. Kabru peak is visible from the bed of the top floor room. Dzongri-Goechala trek can be done from Yoksum. This hotel is very good for a peaceful stay amidst nature for 2 or 3 days.
This hotel is best suited if you are looking for spending some time away from the crowd and noise. In the mornings and sometimes throughout the day, one can hear various birds chirping and the other sounds of nature. It is a beautiful experience. It was already raining when we reached Yuksom, and found the mountains very fresh and green with the rain having washed the trees all around. My primary agenda wasn't tourism and so I perfectly enjoyed my stay in the room enjoying the rain outside. Rainfall in the mountains can be beautiful.
The services are excellent and the staff is very polite & courteous. Pawan ji (the gentleman who served us with food) took very good care of us. We requested for a car to pick us up at the Bagdogra airport and Mr Mangal who drives a WagonR was sent to receive us. He is a very kind and polite gentleman and we absolutely loved the services and are thankful to Red Palace for assigning him to our duty.
The restaurant is awesome and serves various Sikkimese, Chinese and Indian cuisine. One should try out the locally brewed wine (we tried the Kiwi wine and loved it). The hotel grounds are beautifully maintained with nice flower gardens. The rooms are spacious and overlooking the mountains. They are well equipped with electric kettle and tea and coffee and milk powder etc for you to make yourself a few cups of hot beverage. This was particularly helpful for us. The room are very tastefully furnished and set with sofas and chairs to relax. The bathrooms come with a bathtub (at least my room had one, not sure of the others) and with a geyser so that there is no problem with getting hot water. There however are frequent power cuts in Yuksom and I am not sure if the generator can help in operating the geysers or not. The open rooftop on the 3rd floor is an excellent place to sit & relax and gaze out to the mountains. I was very fortunate that amidst all this rain, I was still granted a view of the Kabru South and Kabru North peaks, from the hotel itself.
A couple of areas where improvements can be had:
1. Credit cards are not accepted. Either cash or UPI payments only accepted. It will be good if credit cards can also be accepted.
2. The initial part of the approach road is very broken and it is quite a struggle even for the cars like WagonR / Alto to climb the broken rocky road. I will request the hotel management to please take it up with the appropriate authorities (most likely forest department) to get the approach road metalled. This is the only reason why I am giving 4 stars, else I would have given full 5 stars to this place.
Karma and Sonam, who manage the hotel are extremely hospitable and helpful - in fact they are genuinely very nice people. They ensured that my stay was not just very comfortable but felt like home.
The room was comfortable with large windows on two sides looking out to the surrounding hills. From one window I could see Pelling and the Buddha statue there.
Food was fresh and tasty. I also enjoyed having the Tongba - a traditional Sikkimese alcoholic drink.
The hotel is up a slope and about 5 minutes walk from the market, in a peaceful and somewhat secluded environment.
It's a classy hotel amidst beautiful surroundings. The rooms are spacious with all necessary amenities, the food was super tasty with huge variety (we'd opted for a package with breakfast + dinner) and staff is polite and attentive.
We loved the hospitality by the owner and staff. I strongly recommend this place for a very comfortable stay in Yuksom. We are also looking forward for our next visit to hotel Red Palace.
