Woodsmoke Resort and Spa is a boutique property 13 km short of Shimla. Situated atop a forested ridge at 6200 ft, it is a place where butterflies dance up from the valley, rhododendrons line the winding trails and the air is fragrant with heather and pine. It is a place where there is birdsong and breeze. It is a place where you bookend your day with a misty morning and a blazing sunset unless a thunderstorm comes growling by. Have fun and adventure with yourself! In addition to 24 well-appointed rooms - an interesting mix of stone walls, ceilings and wooden floors - the Resort also has a spa, conference and banquet hall, business , games room, children's activity cum play area, reading lounge, restaurant and bar, making it an all-season business and holiday destination for family, friends and colleagues. FIrst of all Shoghi is an ideal getaway specially for those from the NCR as it takes around 6/7 hrs to reach. It is around 18 kms short of Shimla so u can go to the Mall but stay away from the crowds. WoodSmoke is more of high end resort than others nearby but it delivers on comfort, cleanliness and has a great inhouse kitchen. U get some great walks around the property as well, specially for nature lovers and those looks for a stretch. The rooms with a balcony give u yr own private view of Shimla and the surrounding countryside. The Resort Manager Lucky is affable and accessible and helped make our stay so great that we were back within a week !

The best service we encountered during our visit. The housekeeping team was very vigilant to ensure that everything was delivered on time as promised.
We did not struggle whatsoever. We were a group of five families, including children and infants, and we are all in amazement at how well we were cared for. Everyone, from the management to the engineering personnel to the housekeeping crew, ensured that we had the finest possible experience. None showed a reaction to anything.
This encounter has made every one of their customers loyal for many years.
The most accommodating personnel ever.

Generally, hotel/resort reviews start with how awesome the location is, food is or service is at the hotel etc. However, I would like to start my review with how great the staff was to us at this resort. Mr. Lucky (manager) at the resort, first allotted us couple of best cottages available at the resort as a courtesy since we had booked our stay well in advance. Location of these rooms was simply breathtaking and believe it or not, our rooms were next to property's library :) ( i haven't seen too many resorts housing a library). We ran into trouble as our daughter fell sick and we had to go to Shogi's market to buy medicines for her. Since we did not have a car and there was no commute available, Mr Lucky and Mr Sandeep (from accounts department) were considerate enough. Mr. Sandeep went extra mile for us and took us to local market in his own personal car. We bought the medicines and came back. Since our daughter's situation didn't improve much, we decided to shorten our trip by 1 day and return to our home. When we explained our situation to Mr. Lucky and his staff, they immediately arranged a cab for us so that we can go back. Considering that it was peak summer tourist season, arranging a cab on such a short notice was not easy. However, Mr. Lucky ensured that we got the cab for our travel. Overall, we are extremely thankful to Mr. Lukcy, Mr. Sandeep and their entire staff for making our stay and experience wonderful.
Resort is great, location is awesome and weather is perfect.

Small Tip - Please call hotel directly to customize your stay :)

Most of you would agree that as a costumer, it's always the one negative experience that stays with you and becomes the highlight of the entire stay. So let me begin there before I move on to the positives. The first word of advice if you plan to book this place is to do your research on the rates being offered by the resort and what the travel sites are selling this place for. We are frequent travelers and this one was a last minute plan. I stumbled upon this place while intending to book Aamod shogi. Looked at the Trip Advisor reviews and found it decent enough so decided to try it out. We directly contacted the resort as our experience thus far said that the best rates come directly from the hotel and cuts out all the other caveats too. So this time we did not even check what the other sites were offering and in the haste, booked at the rate offered@6500 per night for MAP package for three nights. After checking in, did not feel that the price we had agreed to pay for was justified as it's slightly lower than a three star property and it was an absolutely off peak season for them. The spa was shut as the staff was on leave! The buffets were very small. The croutons in the tomato soup smelled of old oil and tasted horrible enough to be chewed. while cleaning the room, the staff forgot their duster on one of my jackets! The bathrooms did not have any hair dryers for a property of this rate and location.

Now, while we were staying there, for some reason I ended up seeing the rates on the travel portals and it was almost 50% cheaper. When we spoke to Mr Lucky who.mans the front desk, the response was a point blank NO to make any adjustments to our tariff. The reasons were not so concrete, including saying that now the bill is generated (it's a hotel run independently and by the look of it, run like a private property so I couldn't get this excuse at all!). After a reasonable enough discussion, I gave up and obviously decided there is no point coming back to a place where trust has been royally broken!

Now for the positives- good location, away from the maddening crowds, good food, decent enough open spaces and indoor and outdoor games, the library particularly is very tastefully done and the rooms are spacious enough. We were in the attic room with balcony (room 203 has an issue with sewage smell, so don't take that if offered).
The rating would have been definitely better if not for the tariff issue. But unfortunately difficult for me to go beyond an average rating when I look at the overall experience it left us with. Have highlighted the other things that bring down their experience. Either they need to up their game on customer experience or lower their rates!

I usually do not write reviews, but this one was really required. Quiet place, amazing view from the room and lip-smacking food, unparalleled service, staffs are just too good. Really took good care of us. Just look no further and book this property in a quiet and calm place with the beauty of nature, without any hesitation. I always recommend Woodsmoke Resort to all my friends and family as it is truly a top benchmark in hospitality amongst all local and global competitors!

I went their to welcome 2020 with my family. We were 13 people. The place and comfortable and clean. On our first day we had some issues with the food but the staff was cooperative enough to tackle it for the rest two days. Rooms were spacious and beautiful though we had some smell problem in one of the room which was also tackled with a smile. Their library is beautiful, their coffee shop has a balcony which is an idle place to enjoy your coffee with a great valley view. I would recommend you to take a room near the library or the coffee shop.

Away from the noise and craziness of Shimla crowd, this was the perfect resort for family vacation.Mr Lucky at reception was a perfect host.Soft spoken and always eager to help.Food was really good.House Keeping and room service was great !
The resort was very quiet and at great location with great views from the room.
I would recommend this resort if you want to stay near Shimla but away from the crowd.
A special call out for Mr Sandeep Sharma, who was recommended by Mr. Lucky as a guide for local sight seeing.
Sandeep is very professional and soft spoken. He took us for sight seeing to Kufri ,Shimla and Chail. He knows the place very well and was very courteous throughout.

Ideal place for a weekend trip with family/friends. Apart from amazing view of the hills, it serves delicious food and has several games to engage & spend time there. It also has a spa to rejuvenate to de-stress but that does not have a regular staff. So one needs to pre book the services.
Though the food is delicious, it's bit pricey. Staff is very helpful & courteous.

Okay We found dirty toilets, TV, WiFi, Toilet flush, wasn’t working, rooms had big spiders. They didn’t provide drinking water. At breakfast the spread was poor and actually all the bowels were empty, no cups, no tea, no water, no breads, no omelette, no paranthas, no sabji. We had to wait almost half an hour. Overall, site location is good but nothing works here. AVOID THIS PROPERTY
