After our plans got cancelled twice before, we finally made it to The Belgadia Palace. We were greeted with drums, chandan tikka after which we were shown to the jewel toned living room and served our welcome drinks (mango sherbet). We booked two Jr Suites which are located on the first floor, there is a no elevator and its 40 flights but worth it. We chose the narayanhity and bengal renaissance suite, which were large rooms with antique furniture, very well decorated and clean.

The Chhau dance was spectacular and don't miss sitting out on the first floor patio.
The food served is mainly north indian & odia dishes (buffet style-chefs special), however, upon request were served Italian.

The staff was very cordial and helpful in showing us around. The property has plenty of board games, croquet & archery to choose from

It is a heritage palace and comes with all the trappings that a heritage palace comes with. But it is much more than that.

What we specially loved was the attention to detail in every part of the experience. From the choice of colours, the spotless artifacts and the smudge-free mirror-topped tables to the behaviour of the staff - it seemed every aspect of the experience had been carefully thought of.

We stayed for 2 nights and loved every bit of it. The hosts gave us space, but were always there for a quick chat about the million questions we collectively had. They gave us a great introduction to the history of the place and of past generations. As they discover more layers to their history, it will be interesting to revisit and pick their brains again in a year.

The staff were specially unique. Parvez, Himanshu and the rest of the team were specially helpful in all respects and always had a smile on their face.

Do ask for Odia food. While all food that they serve is great, the Odia food was specially delicious and interestingly, felt light on the stomach too. Odia cuisine is incredibly diverse and unique.

In a country of palace hotels, the Belgadia Palace is unique. It respects it's history and uses modern design at the same time. It is detailed without being overbearing or stuffy. It is a breath of fresh air and speaks volumes of the people who have set it up.

It was a great experience. The place, the decor, the service and the food was amazing.

The rooms are tastefully decorated with modern amenities and a large beautiful bathroom ( with bathtub) . We stayed at the 3 suites in the first floor. We had the whole sitting area to ourselves. It was a very comfortable stay.

The service was great, anything we wanted was immediately taken care of by Baya and Bijoy.

The food was great, homely and a an amazing menu comprising of Oriya, Bengali and Chinese cuisines , prepared by the Chef Mr Shirsendu and served with care by his team.

Himangshu was particularly helpful is showing us around the palace, and the surrounding areas - Sitakund Falls, Sabai Village, Simplipal Reserve, etc. Not to forget the mesmerizing Chau dance presented by a local troupe in the back garden of the palace in one of the evenings.

Overall, a great, relaxing experience - great service

One thing that was missing was a place for the drivers... hopefully that will also come up soon.

The property is beautiful however there is a lot of room for improvement. The price charged is that of a 5-star Premium Suite but the setup is practically of a home-stay. The place is pet-friendly and the rooms and the lounges are well decorated with antique furniture. The staffs are friendly. The members of the Royal Family are very down to earth and cordial. The rooms especially the heritage junior suites are overpriced. The platter of the buffet is very limited. E.g One day the dinner menu was Steamed Rice, Roti, Yellow Daal, Paneer, Chicken and one small sweet. We didn't get to savour the Nepali or rajasthani menu on any of the days we stayed. Additionally, the meal time window is small and towards the end the availability of food becomes a challenge. The food service is understaffed and the waiting time is high. We were told that we could book the Billiards room but on reaching there we were told that it was under maintenance. A place still worth visiting but take the Standard rooms. They are better value for money.

Dear Sir, Greetings. We are a 9 bedroom heritage Property run by the Family. Being a registered Bed & Breakfast and having a small Team it is important certain policies with regards to extra beds and meal timings are followed. Our lunches and dinners are curated by our Chef daily, Nepali and Rajasthani cuisines are not served however certain dishes are inspired from them or one dishes maybe made in that style. The lunch and dinner menu contain 7-8 items made fresh with organic spices and local vegetables. Due to the pandemic situation and have only one 12 seater dining room it was important for us to have the different groups of guests dine separately, hence timings were give to each group. Moreover, being a family of 4 our standard rooms would not have fit your family. Only our Jr Suite would accomodate the 2 extra beds which are chargeable hence that category room was offered to you.

For those who wish to experience the lesser seen and known side of Odisha, look no further than a regal stay at the Belgadia Palace in Mayurbhanj.
This boutique homestay offers a sneak peek into the history of one of India’s oldest princely states : Mayurbhanj. If you love history and architecture, a stay in this vintage 200 year old palace doesn’t disappoint. Every room has a story to narrate and there are artefacts in every nook, making it a museum of sorts. The huge collection of books makes it a paradise for book lovers. Has been thrown open to visitors since April 2019 and offers deluxe rooms as well as Suites.
Homemade, simple yet wholesome meals is an added treat, making it even more non hotel like. The silence here is addictive. Perfect for a writer's/ artists retreat!
Beyond architecture and history, the place offers trips to see the making of Dokra art and Sabai grass products. Haripur is another half day excursion for archaeological ruins and the Simlipal forest is another must visit place in the vicinity.

We the Bagchis travelled to Baripada for a weekend stay @ " The Belgadia Palace" and it has been an experience worth cherishing.
It was a four hours and forty five minutes drive from Kolkata .
On reaching we were accorded a royal welcome and from there on it was a stay of lingering comfort. The ambience, the facilities, the food and everything else associated with this heritage property leaves an everlasting impression.
The owners personally interact wiith the guests and every other member of the staff are extremely cordial and helpful.
The location of " Belgadia Palace" also makes it easy to take a trip to Chandipur, Simlipal forests, the Sitakund waterfalls and Badjod dam.
As these are unprecedented times due to the pandemic, all the covid protocols are followed and safety measures undertaken by the staff here. A special thank you to the property manager, Himanshu and Rashida for their efforts to make the stay cosy .
I would highly recommend a visit to "Belgadia Palace". Please be a part of the rich cultural heritage of Mayurbhanj, enjoy the local cuisine, be enriched about local art and culture of Chhau, Dokra and Sawai handicrafts.
For me personally it wasa sentimental journey and I surely hope to be back someday !

It was a wonderful experience staying in this very well-maintained palace. The two suites on the first floor (Narayanhity Suite and Bengal Renesaince Suite) are the best for having the royal experience.
Our stay was made all the more special because of the fabulous hospitality of the staff. While Rashida, Himangshu and Shweta took impeccable care of us, Chefs Shirshendu and Rajat cooked delectable traditional Oriya cuisine for us. All five of them made us feel as if we are their personal guests. Their attention to details, caring and helping attitude and very sweet and polite behaviour made us feel so comfortable. They took special care of my 76 yrs old mother and she was so happy by their behaviour. We cannot thank them enough for their excellent hospitality.

Awful service. It's really pathetic. Service and quality of food is extremely poor. It is poor to an extent that many of us fell sick due to profusely used bad cooking oil and abundant usage of poor quality red chilli powder. They are just minting money by cheating customers. The exorbitantly priced rooms/packages are not worth it at all. Photographs, put up in internet are luring customers just to siphon out money and dissappoint them later. Room size projected in the photographs are actually half in reality. They don't even offer an welcome drink. You have to live with their pet's poop and pee on the carpet. They are charging more than five star rate but providing a service of not even three star.

Dear Sutapa,Greetings! Just wanted to bring your attention to a couple of things which may have led to your experience being the way you describe it. The booking was not made directly and was done via a middle person/agent. We were only give the guest names and the room they had chosen. If its a direct booking we make it a point to share the details of the room with images, amenities description & room size. Since this was made by a middle party I believe the information was left out. Moreover, we were not informed about the english breakfast (which you wanted on the next day of your stay). We are a pet friendly property however, upon checking the cameras, none of the pets came upstairs or into your room. Our meals are made fresh and we would be happy to show you the oil and the preparation of your meal, had you asked.

Situated almost at the centre of the city , Yet you won’t feel the hustle bustle of the city life as it’s a wholesome different experience inside the gate of the belgadia palace .. The palace from the outside is covered by greenery all around where one can truely get away from the chaotic life for a moment.. The interiors are so aesthetic , you will feel every bit of luxury with the royal touch .
