Nestled amidst a lush green backdrop of rolling hills and sparkling waterfalls of the rich and diverse Eastern-Indian countryside is The Belgadia Palace. An 18th century victorian brick-built double-storey structure in the classical Western style of Doric-Corinthian column, a mixture of Greek and Victorian architecture. The property is beautiful however there is a lot of room for improvement. The price charged is that of a 5-star Premium Suite but the setup is practically of a home-stay. The place is pet-friendly and the rooms and the lounges are well decorated with antique furniture. The staffs are friendly. The members of the Royal Family are very down to earth and cordial. The rooms especially the heritage junior suites are overpriced. The platter of the buffet is very limited. E.g One day the dinner menu was Steamed Rice, Roti, Yellow Daal, Paneer, Chicken and one small sweet. We didn't get to savour the Nepali or rajasthani menu on any of the days we stayed. Additionally, the meal time window is small and towards the end the availability of food becomes a challenge. The food service is understaffed and the waiting time is high. We were told that we could book the Billiards room but on reaching there we were told that it was under maintenance. A place still worth visiting but take the Standard rooms. They are better value for money.

Walking into The Belgadia Palace felt almost like time-traveling! This gorgeous heritage property is the perfect place to enjoy a luxurious staycation, while getting to know a little more about the history of Mayurbhanj. From Kolkata, it was about 5 hours drive to this place, and we were welcomed with warmth by Parvez and his team. The hospitality is too good to be put to words - one needs to be there to experience it. We were 3 friends, staying in the Peacock Suite which overlooked the mango orchards. There are a couple of waterfalls that can be covered, apart from the Simlipal national park and the Haripur ruins. But we didn't really feel like going out to explore 'coz we were happily enjoying our time in the palace. Mrinalika took us around and gave us a tour of the property, telling us more about the Bhanj history and her ancestors who have built this place. We were treated to delicious food made in their in-house kitchen. To be honest, we couldn't have asked for a better weekend escapade :) If you're in Kolkata and looking for a place where you can spend a day or two in peace, you must consider visiting the Belgadia Palace.

We were a group of 3 families travelling with kids. The hotel is a heritage property with lots of history, books and artefacts to delve into. We were travelling with 4 year olds. The food was prepared fresh and the service was good albeit a bit slow. The erstwhile royal family resides in a area of the property and does interact with guests. Had the chance to have a post dinner discussion with H.H Praveen Chandra BhanjDeo, a veritable gold mine of historical trivia. The roads in Orissa are generally good and the property can be easily accessed from Kolkata. We travelled from Jamshedpur and reached the hotel in about 2.30 hrs of drive time. The property manager and service manager are quite eager and accommodating. The prices for us were on the higher side thanks to the extra bed and children in all rooms.

For the first time in Odisha I had the chance to stay at a Palace and experience the royal and luxurious hospitality that Belgadia offered. The ambience of the place, the architecture, the history that it holds with it.. everything is supreme. The best part is they're encouraging the local tribes to sustain livelihoods by promoting their work. You also get a chance to interact with them during your stay. Atleast once in your lifetime too you must stay at Belgadia and experience what they put forward. Its a perfect getaway from the city hustle bustle into their lush green property. I am surely looking forward to visit again for their elite, kingly and regal experience.

Excellent Stay! There is no other place like this in the vicinity of Kolkata where you can spend a peaceful weekend. Home like stay in the Palace which is full of history & culture. Only 230 Kms from Kolkata, roads are good so driving down is not stressful at all. There is something or the other for everyone, you may want to stay back in the Palace, just relax, read a book of whatever or you can do lots of activities in Simlipal National Park, go hiking, explore water bodies, off road driving and Jungle Safari; there are several waterfalls in the Park where you can go and take a dip (at your own risk). Overall this Palace has a lot to offer, we really liked staying here because of the hospitality, Parvez (Manager), Rashida and Byostho made our stay even more memorable. The owners are also very humble, Mranalika is an excellent host. I highly recommend this place. Other places nearby - Dev Kund (Please don’t spoil this natural beauty), Emami’s Jagannath Temple, Sabaigrass Village (local handicrafts), Haripur Ruins, and Dams.
