Great location which allows for a peaceful sleep experience, nice breeze. There are restaurants nearby. Owners are very friendly and prepared a delicious breakfast. Our room was also very clean. Make sure to respect the no scent policy (including shampoos, sunscreen, etc).

Surprised by the higher ratings, this may be because value wise it is good value. However, this B&B is very dated in terms of decor. Bed was comfortable, breakfast was sufficient but despite some reference about smoke free and fragrance free, we have an owner who is incredibly sensitive to fragrances. I was asked about aftershave, which I never wear, and so of course said I don't wear any but deodorant in the morning is also an issue, of which I can only apologise. Please be mindful that your smell, from any perfume, deodorant, aftershave or even washing detergent may be an issue and therefore unless you are willing to be au natural for several hours beforehand, this may be an issue. I feel sorry that this is such a sensitivity but surprised they can operate their B&B in such a situation.

This Bed and Breakfast is extremely clean and very well cared for. The breakfasts are well prepared, tasty and filling.

My complaints are with the owners. They are quite friendly, but they never stop talking. And they talk extremely loudly and are very opinionated. The man made some racist and homophobic comments which I really did not appreciate. I did let him know that I wasn't impressed with his opinions. These sort of conversations are not how I want to start my mornings.

His wife has problems with odours. I was not wearing perfume, but she did not like the shampoo I used. It is really difficult to be scent free in this day and age. I was made to feel quite guilty for the shampoo I used.

In light of these, I question whether this couple should be in this line of work.

Our inn keeper Dorim was very helpful and courteous taking my wife's luggage to our room. Our room was clean and spotless and we had a beautiful view of the water from our room. Our breakfasts were very good and varied. A perfect spot for visiting Ramea or Sandbanks Provincial Park.

I can only strongly suggest you book elsewhere. Our first red flag should have been the complete absence of other guests on a Friday in July. Our party was in compliance with the host's strict no scent request, but upon our arrival, she sniffed us deeply and declared that we were not welcome to stay. The host clearly doesn't want people on her premises. We found a delightful air bnb nearby and stayed there instead.

Booked 3 nights and paid for them but could not bring ourselves to stay for more than the first night as the woman proprietor was constantly rude on levels I have never seen before. I am a smoker and am always very happy to go to designated areas to smoke, but was told that I smell bad immediately on my arrival, and was given the fifth degree about where I had to go to smoke. Numerous other rude comments and unreasonable demands were made of me and my travelling companions. The website should not say that the place is nonsmoking, but that the place despises smokers and treats anyone traveling with them as a substandard human being. I will never darken the doors of this place again. They also take and retain a handwritten copy of your credit card info including your security code from the back (bizarre). The room was fine and impeccably clean, but the negative far outweighed this.

Owners were rude and inhospitable.
It seemed a great inconvenience for them to have us there or to have us dine in their restaurant. Food was good, but soured by their abrupt manner and rudeness.
Rooms are nice and clean, just made to feel very uncomfortable by the hosts.

We booked this accommodation fully understanding that it was as smoke-free zone, and that no scented products were allowed. Upon arriving to check in the host acted in a most erratic way and told us that we had used Tide detergent in our clothing (which neither of us had done) and we were ordered out the door. Initially we both felt terrible, and would never cause harm to another person. Upon questioning this behaviour at other locations in Tatamagouche we learned that this is in fact quite typical. I could not recomend this place. We were treated very rudely.

We arrived on time for our check in to the female owner extremely unwelcoming and seemed confused as to why we were even there. I said we had a reservation for the night and my name. She immediately grabbed her throat and said she was having a reaction to my perfume. I said I was not wearing perfume of any kind but had showered that day. I was a bit alarmed so I said I would go outside to help, she said it was to late and her throat was closing over. My partner asked if she had any medication or an Epi pen she could take, she said no. She then ran outside and was coughing and hacking. She then screamed that we could not stay there. There was ZERO information at the location stating scent free zone before walking in. We were left with no place to stay and expected to pay for the night. The online booking agent agreed with us and we were not charged.

Response from alre2, Owner at Forest Haven Inn B & B
Responded 26 Aug 2018
Our Listing with the Online booking agent contains the information as photo that Forest Haven Inn is a strictly smoke-scent-and pet-free establishment because of some guests and the owners health problems. All our guest, including you, are sent a reservation confirmation with welcome message emphasizing our special policy. The "Scent-free-Building" sign is also attached to the front door. Please note an Epi-pen does not help with multiple chemical sensitivities as those volatile organic compound used to produce fragrances, "air-fresheners", parfumes etc, as well as essential oils are still present in any room they were brought into. We are sorry you had this experience and your busy schedule kept you from reading our special rental conditions/policies.

Very strange experience!
This was booked several months ahead of time, for an annual weekend away. The day prior to our arrival, the owner called and explained that she scent allergies, asking to refrain from using 2 specific types of laundry. We agreed that wouldn't be an issue. Upon our arrival, she began sniffing the first of the group members as they entered. She said that we would have to leave because one of us smelled of something that triggered her allergies. She went on to say that she's allergic to all scents, despite only mentioning 2 specific detergents on the phone...just the day before! While the website does indicate scent free, it definitely does not cover the extent to which her guests need to accommodate.
Definitely would not recommend!

We ended up at a very lovely air bnb with a very lovely host not too far away!
