We’ve spent two nights in this newly managed Guest House. Compared to other accommodations we visited in town, this is definitely the best: clean rooms, hot water, good food. New owners are incredibly kind, welcoming and helpful. Good location, not far from police station where your arrival and departure must be recorded.

After coming to Mon we realized that the “auntie” runs two different Paramounts. Without letting us know she shifted us and we appeared in the “other” one, which is not described on her pages. It was a dirty hole without ANY service except one “lost in translation” girl which randomly appeared and dissappeared. Many times after coming from local villages, tired and dirty, there was none to give us a bucket of water. The electricity works randomly and there is NO generator. She charges various prices between 2500 and 3000 Rs and only after complaining we realised that customer should bargain :). We got discount. All rooms are very dirty, absolutely not a value for money. And btw we have not seen the miraculous “auntie” (who we called a witch) except first night when she pretended that she does not speak English. We did not feel comfortable and secure. Not recommended at all!!!

If you have even spent 15 minutes in planning your trip to land of the headhunters, then you are sure to have saved the number one ‘Paramount guest house’ and come across articles referring to a lady whose only known recorded name on the internet is Aunty! You can forego the stay at Paramount guest house but meeting Aunty must definitely be on your cards. Earlier Paramount was one of the only stay options in Mon but now, there is another option, which is Aunty's new home.

Extremely courteous staff..good food and clean rooms. The only flip being that its a bit too overpriced. Not much options in Mon. Its either Hilsa resort or Paramount. But would recommend Paramount any day mainly owing to the cleanliness and staff behavior.

Either this establishment gets undeservedly lukewarm write-ups or they've cleaned up their act considerably in recent months. All I can say is that, after four hours driving up a jungle track in pitch darkness, we found the Paramount to be a warm and welcoming oasis of comfort, good food and generally great hospitality. Our room was on the first floor of a long building that overlooks a self-contained compound that serves as the car park, rooms for drivers / guides and garden / plant nursery. You can hear the sounds of the town and people generally going about their business, but little or no traffic. The room itself was spacious and clean, there was hot water in the bathroom and the bed was wide and the mattress firm (which I like). We were served food on the veranda outside where there are communal chairs and a large table and later relaxed here with tea and our books. The owner came and chatted to us a couple of times during our stay and it is clear that she and her son & daughter have a great deal of entrepreneurial spirit - this and their other establishment may be the only places in town but they can hardly be blamed for having a monopoly. Mon itself is typical of the larger towns in this part of the country in terms of traffic and dust / pollution but it seems positively laid back after visiting Jorhat, Mokokchung or Kohima. I would recommend this as a base for anyone planning to visit the tribes and countryside of northern Nagaland.

Very basic accommodation. Although the rooms are clean enough it’s hard mattresses and patchy plumbing but you may need to stay in Mon if you’re going up to Longwe. The same owner has another property which looks more modern.

Its the one pillar of the 'empire' of auntie, who runs a second place in Mon, too, lower end; this (new) 'paramount' house is modern, functional, embedded in a micro-neighbourhood of animals and people, SUV's and guns (no joke), you feel immediately at home, safe, well taken care of, and fed, though cuisine is a bit repetitive. Monopoly - however a place to be in Mon. Lovely are the people, young and old, shy and already accomodated. Help is available, if needed.

This is it. You have no other option in Mon. There are only a handful of rooms. I got a very basic room but there are a couple of carpeted and pretty curtains one which I was told they charge extra. Since all don't have running water, irregular electricity you might as well go with basic ones. They do give you hot water by bucket if you ask. The guesthouse is not attended at all times so you need to tell them when you are arriving or you will have to wait. They make you meals if ordered beforehand and there are not many eating options in Mon either. While this shouldn't reflect on the hotel and the owner, I must mention it incase someone else gets caught in the same situation. I had one full day to visit nearby villages. The driver the owner arranged only took me to 2 villages and dropped me back by 1.30pm saying he was hungry and didn't want to go anymore. It was a Sunday and everything shuts down in Mon. I spent the whole afternoon in my room with no electricity and food! While those are not important the fact that I lost time and that I didn't get to see all that I had come so far for was disappointing and I had to leave day. So I'd be very careful in taking recommendations from them. Ps. Mon has no Internet cafes or wifi!

I have to give a very good rating because it is in Mon. Globally this place should be called a hell hole but once again, it is Mon where you have only two options: this one or her daughter's place called Helsa Cottage which is a place of equal standard. I expected a lot worse. Over priced for what? It is Mon and we had a room (Room 75, although there are less than 10 rooms) with clean floor, clean bedding, relatively clean bathroom and yes we had hot water. You need to turn the fuse in the hallway on. Our room also had a view of the market. On top of that Auntie is a delightful person to have a conversation with. Ashon who works in the kitchen and cleans room is a sweetheart. Since to them potato is vegetable and can be eaten with rice or bread as complete meal, I proceeded to shop in the market and was allowed to cook in the kitchen. I eventually taught Ashon how to cook a few dish and she did very well. We did not eat meat. Mon is a fascinating place and once you are there if you call auntie she will come get you. She even took us to the police station so that we can register. However, there was no one there actually working and she finally gave up. We did not eat her breakfast because it was white bread and eggs. we had our own but we asked Ashon for hot water so that we can make our own real coffee (instead of instant crap). She gave it to us on time. All in all, when in Mon, go with the flow, have a walk in the surrounding villages, and think of Mongolia. You will be happy you have a place like Paramount here.

Very much overpriced shabby guesthouse. No hot water in room although there have been trials to repair the hot water boiler. In our room, the cold water came out of the wall...since a hole in the wall got bursted which was repaired.? with some kind of glue. Beds are hard. Cleanless leaves much to desire. However, you have almost no choice in Mon.... Breakfast : overpriced for a banana, toast and a cup of coffee. For dinner, the same story, overpriced and no choice. Eat what you get or go elswhere, but there is no elswhere. We wanted a reduction on our overpriced - 2500 Rp room, because were promised hot water, but none came. No way ! We argued, but in vain. Finally we paid because we did not want to bring our guide/driver into trouble, since he uses this guesthouse regularly.
