Vanilla County is the perfect take off point for visits to Periyar Wild life Sanctuary, Munnar hill station, Alleppey back waters and Marari beach.
This little gem of a hotel is tucked into a garden with lovely vegetation in an old vanilla plantation. Rooms are in the colonial amin house or bungalows set into the hillside over looking the garden. There is a nice pool at a good temperature. The rooms smelt a little musty but were nice. The service and authentic food was excellent.

My cousin and I spent two nights at Vanilla County and we were very impressed by how well-maintained and aesthetically designed this heritage property is. Our room (called Vanilla) on the first floor, overlooked the lovely garden and had its own little sit-out. Although the bathroom is not attached to the main bedroom and must be reached through the sit-out, it is well-fitted, including running hot water (and helpful instructions on how to operate the tap/shower for hot/cold water). The staff at Vanilla County is very courteous and very attentive to the guests’ comfort and needs. The dining area is so beautifully designed and has a warm, homely vibe. The food is a fixed menu for every meal and is freshly prepared and delicious. (It would be nice if there were a little more variety in the dishes and a little flexibility, especially in the vegetarian options) We were particularly blown away by the desserts we had – semiya payasam, coconut pudding and even the tea-time snacks and homemade cookies! We thoroughly enjoyed the morning walk in the plantation near the property, through lush, green forest and gushing waterfalls and streams. We also visited the newly-opened glass bridge, pine forest and tea gardens in Vagamon. A special thanks to Silu for being such a caring host – she met us on both the days we were there, enquired after our comfort and even gave us tips on what we could do in Vagamon. The thoughtful giveaways added a nice touch to our stay at Vanilla County. I hope to return someday soon!…

It was my third trip to Vanilla County. The owners have added a swimming pool and a bakery to the facilities since I last visited. Food was as amazing as ever. The personal attention always is heartwarming. The room I stayed in this time was a large heritage room on the first floor with an attached bathroom. Very spacious and airy.

The place was amazing. It felt very vintage. The place was scenic and beautiful. The people also had a very cute dog to play with. They also have a wooden swing which took me to my childhood. My only critique was that there was no TV to watch anything which make people feel bored. Otherwise - Excellent job Vanilla County.

Homestays and heritage properties are one of the most sort after options in the world of leisure travel.Away from the monotony of regular life if one seeks for comfort, privacy, safety and tastefully curated, home-cooked meals, then Vanilla County-Heritage Homestay-Vagamon-Kerala, is the place to be. The property in spread over 10 acres of plantation of rubber, coffee, mango, jackfruit, spices and humongous other combinations of flora. This is a 75 year old house, run by their third generation. Vanilla County houses eight rooms that are self sufficient and very comfortable. Four units are within the main house and 4 other are created eternally on varying heights. Two units that are on top give a good view of the premises. Sustainability seems to be the philosophy here. Completely plastic free zone and if one is looking for late night partying and loud music this is not the place. The household follows a particular routine which is considerate of everyone's needs and comfort. Breakfast is included with the stay and all other meals are charged reasonably on per head basis. The meals here are an array of local cusine with homegrown ingredients that are served with care and courtesy. The dining area is with gazebo like sitting which is partially open to sky and surrounded by well designed shrubbery and hanging pots. The indoor sitting called "Chimney" reminds you of a well laid out family dinner table that is common for guests. Hours of action here are 7 am to 9 pm. An obode to relax and rejuvenate.…

We stayed here for only the one night, as part of a tour of the Kerala Western Ghats, and I can't wait to return! Such beautiful surroundings and to wake up hearing all the wildlife in the lush forests. The house is stunning, a wonderful heritage home still run by the family, and the hosts Silu and Matthew were fantastic, welcoming us and giving us lots of information about the area. The rooms are wonderful, clean and authentic with beautiful furniture. The food was perfect too, and I came away with some homemade pineapple jam and some spices. One of those places that I really want to go back to and spend longer, relaxing and taking in all the calm and wonder of the Ghats.

What an incredibly special place this is! We arrived by Jeep and received the warmest welcome from Matthew and Sillu. They arranged for us to travel by jeep to a beautiful mountain fed pool where we were able to swim surrounded by the most beautiful forest scenery. The rooms are stunning and every detail had been thought of. The food was outstanding for both dinner and breakfast. Definitely up there as some of our best food on the whole trip. We are planning to return in 2025 and stay for a few nights at least- beautiful homestay, wonderful welcome and the most scrumptious food! Thank you for such an amazing stay.

We had such a lovely welcome from Mathew and Silu. The rooms were the most comfortable I have ever enjoyed in India and their staff were absolutely delightful. Our hosts were very happy to answer any questions about the plantation and the effects of climate change in the area. the historic home Mathew’s grandfather built and the local flora and fauna

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Vanilla County. Silu and Mateu designed a fantastic hospitality experience: fantastic food, great service, amazing natural surroundings. The property has been within the family for 4 generations and we felt at home ourselves. Do not miss the bakery workshop hosted by Mateu, it is brilliant.

Gorgeous plantation house, gracious hosts (thank you, Silu), stunning scenery, and the best food we ate in Kerala. You can hike for miles in the hills and barely come across another soul, swim in the nearby rock pool, and watch the sun go down from the balcony. We were entranced by the butterflies, the flowers, the birds - and the food! We ate really well everywhere in Kerala, but the meals here were exceptional.
