The Pestana Vila Sol is a 5-star hotel in Vilamoura, in the Algarve. We stayed here for a week end of may and had a lovely stay. The hotel complex itself is very large. This may pose more of an issue if you are not a fan of walking to your room (unless your based directly in the hotel and not in the lodge style rooms). We loved our room, it’s very spacious, the bed is huge and so is the bathroom. The bathroom was very modern looking with a bath and two sinks. The room could have some more modern touch ups but nothing that bothered us. We also had a large outdoor seating area with two deck chairs which was a lovely bonus. The only thing we would say is that that the rooms were quite dark, more lighting would be preferable.
The pool area at the hotel is very nice. It also contains a bar serving food and cocktails throughout the day. We found the main man at the bar great, very friendly and the drinks were really nice. I did try to refill my water as much as I could to reduce plastic waste but no one at the pool area seemed able to do it as there wasn’t the right drinking water available. Having to buy one set us back almost 5 euros for one bottle and more importantly more plastic Waste! Our drinks through out the day were also in plastic cups which I’d love to see paper or an alternative in the future.
When we arrived we thought we had booked half board but after our first night we were told we’d only booked bed and breakfast (our fault!) but were shocked to see that the evening buffet cost us 26 euros each plus drinks as they weren’t included. After spending around £800 staying here we don’t think it would be a big ask to at least provide water in the evenings. As well as this, I don’t particularly eat a lot, definitely not 26 euros worth so would of loved to have seen some other options for the evenings. However saying this we did love the food there and really looked forward to our morning and evening meals. The other thing I would add is perhaps some more vegetarian options for the hot meals as I don’t eat much meat. Not the best coffee (mornings) but everything else was delicious!
In terms of location the hotel is ideally situated close to the airport (approx 25mins) and to Vilamoura (5mins in Uber cost around 5 euros each way). Albufeira is also accessible (approx 20 mins). We hired a moped and went all the way down to the Benagil Caves for 40 euros.
To conclude, we found this a lovely 4 star hotel. The staff were all lovely and helpful. The area is ideal and the food/rooms are nice also. We would definitely recommend it and would come back here to stay. Just a heads up that an Uber or two may be in order if your planning on travelling around the Algarve !

Rooms are definitely not 5 star. Dated and shower was awful. Pool area basic and pool freezing. Drinks and snacks very expensive, 5 euros for bottle of water round pool. No decent plastic glasses for drinks around pool, paper cups only and 9 euros for 2 small paper cup of soft drinks. Golf buggy’s a no show despite being a guest all booked out and not able to get one. They advised that as hotel guests you could not book them just turn up and take chance, when husband did told all booked out to golf package days. Staff work hard and are friendly, room cleaned every day to a good standard. Breakfast average what you would expect buffet style.

We are staying in this hotel at the moment and whilst we think the hotel is fine it does have its faults. 1. The hotel is remote with nothing round about although they say there is a shuttle bus. This is not true.2. There is no entertainment and can sometimes feel like a nursing home.3. We had plans to go into the Marina where there are loads of restaurants and LIVE entertainment but we were assured that by the time we came back from our meal, live entertainment would be in the hotel. This was a lie and the bar man said there was never any plans to have live entertainment so instead you can sit around and drink in a nursing home environment.10. The restaurant recommended by Reception was Paisagem. Do not go there. It's like someone's conservatory and very little choice of food which is expensive. I had pork and prawn kebab on a skewer which was tasteless and very, very salty. I don't take salt with my heart condition and even though I didn't eat it and complained we were still changed for it. Also everything is a add on which you are not informed of until the bill arrives. 🙈 Chips,salad, bread and butter etc,. Having said all that the staff do try there best and are polite and courteous and for those who prefer a peaceful relaxing holiday then this hotel is a good choice. It suited us to be away from the husstle since my wife is recovering from illness and is somewhat immobile and it was a peaceful holiday we required. The food is lovely and it is €10 euros for a taxi to the marina each way. I overheard people say it was €30 Euro on way back after midnight 🤷♂️

Me & my partner had a 4 night stay here in April. Location isn’t the best…atleast a 10 minute drive to Villamoura & the closest shop is a 20 minute walk away. Check in was okay, nothing special. We were ‘upgraded’ to a villa in the gardens but to be honest we regretted not asking for a room in the hotel. The room was very dark, dated, needed a good refurb & the patio area was consistently unclean. Spiders and insects kept getting into our room & there were no amenities like a kettle, iron etc.
Despite leaving the please clean our room sign on our door every day we only got it cleaned twice. We had to call reception twice for clean towels and one of the times the room was serviced the other hand towels and bath mat weren’t replaced. The bed however was comfortable & I had a good nights sleep each night.
Service was extremely poor with the exception of one gentleman who worked on an evening in the bar, apologies I didn’t get his name. I would even go as far as saying the staff were rude, ignored us when we wanted more drinks/food, huge delays when food was brought to us, we had to chase them around the hotel to ask for basic things. There were plenty of sun beds and the pool was clean.
Breakfast was average, lots of choice but very basic. And on the last day the hotel was a lot busier (Easter holidays starting) there were no seats at all for breakfast. We were waiting 15 minutes just for a seat, staff were completely uninterested & ignored us yet again when we asked for coffee. In the end we gave up & went without.
Overall we would definitely not return here. Poor location, poor service, basic room/amenities. Definitely not 5 star…

We checked in. Went to our room in the main building. Walking along the corridor to the room it smelt like an old people’s home. Carpets along the way were stained everywhere. The room was the same, carpet stains, wallpaper bubbling off, broken wall tiles. The double bed was like sitting on a hard cardboard box. The bedding was not ironed even! It was a shambles. We were shown two more rooms, they were the same. Who gave this tired old hotel 5 stars? I give the one star for the well presented and kind check in staff other wise I would give zero if I could. Dionísio Pestana should be ashamed at selling rooms in this hotel before first a refurbishment and ensuring proper training standards for housekeeping staff. Come on portugal you can do better than this no? We checked into crown plaza for €50 more and the difference was like night and day. Proper international 5* standards. The whole experience wasted 1.5hrs of a night away.

Just arrived home from a week's stay in this hotel
The hotel is 10 mins from the marina by taxi but can take longer in traffic
27 holes of golf on site so lots golfers here course reasonable but not best in area greens not great.
The rooms are cleaned everyday and good enough to lay your head but nothing 5 star no mini bar or drinks in rooms.
The worst thing here was breakfast not agreat choice for a 5 star hotel
If you like cold bacon and mushrooms & I mean cold not even like warm scrambled egg somedays was slightly warm the warming plates to keep food hot where never switched on I put my hand under to try.
There was an omelette station but seemed never to be manned til after 8.00am and the lady could only cook one omelette at a time so sometimes the cue was over 20 minutes long.
Surely a five star hotel should have better offerings.
The waiting staff were quick at cleaning your plate away sometimes before you had finished your last mouthful.
Didn't eat at the buffet at night don't waste your money there's some fantastic restaurants around the marina serving great food.
Compared to 5 star hotels in other places across the world way below standard.

From checking in to leaving what a lovely experience.
Every member of staff we met were friendly and professional.
A big mention to Fernando,who worked in the bar, made you feel so welcome.
Breakfast was buffet service, as you would expect if you wanted the hot food it comes down to being there at the right time but there was plenty to choose from and the cold meats and cheeses and fruits yoghurts were plentiful and fresh. Also you could have fresh omelettes and poached eggs.
We stayed in the garden rooms, perfectly adequate, you do have to remember that you are outside and can get some uninvited guests like ants but if you don't leave anything lying about you will be fine.
You can have patio doors open at night because there are fly screens and shutters that lock so you don't have to have the air conditioning on.
Also the golf course was fantastic.
Reasonable prices in the bar,can't wait for the next visit.

I visited this hotel back circa 2006. At the time, it was a glorious space, brand new and built upon the golfing market, much thanks to the course where it sits.
15 years later, I can't say I'm impressed. We're going through a pandemic and hotels everywhere face challenges. As a result, a guest can expect some things not to be all the way up there.
Unfortunately, I've noticed lots of areas that need improvement. Maintenance and cleaning, mostly, on a much more detailed level. Like most, I've been to all sorts of hotels around the world, worked in the field and find some things are too simple to be left unattended.
The hotel seems to be in "management mode" only until the concession ends. The Pestana Group is well renowned in Portugal, but seems to go to very little effort in this unity.
The surrounding areas are well maintained, but what does it matter when your room needs proper cleaning? When things are broken or rusty?
As a manager, regardless of the price you ask for a night, would you assume a hotel can present itself as a 5-star resort under these standards?
The staff were overall lovely, professional and the line that made this place afloat. If not for them, I would definitely have a hard time recommending this place to anyone. Sure, there are great deals and if you're not at all fussy, you'll have a nice, relaxing time.
The space is still pleasant, breakfast is nice, and its staff will go to great lengths to ensure you have a good time. All the other details fall on the management's plate. It either needs to be taken seriously and back to its real standard, or someone else should do the job.

As a manager, regardless of the price you ask for a night, would you assume a hotel can present itself as a 5-star resort under these standards?
The staff were overall lovely, professional and the line that made this place afloat. If not for them, I would definitely have a hard time recommending this place to anyone. Sure, there are great deals and if you're not at all fussy, you'll have a nice, relaxing time.
The space is still pleasant, breakfast is nice, and its staff will go to great lengths to ensure you have a good time. All the other details fall on the management's plate. It either needs to be taken seriously and back to its real standard, or someone else should do the job.

Played Vila Sol yesterday on their Twilight deal, as a green fee layer, not a resident of the hotel. How sensible to offer a deal at 45 Euros per person after 14.00 hrs and a buggy at a reduced price of 30 Euros. The courses were busy as a result, but not overwhelming as they have 27 holes to spread players around. We played as a two ball with a buggy and were round in 3 1/2 hrs. The course (holes 1-18) was in very good condition and the greens were fair and true. The welcome in the Pro Shop was friendly and helpful. Overall we were very impressed and will play there again when next in the Algarve.

Good hotel, varied breakfast buffet, although the hot food could have been kept at a higher temperature.
Well positioned for a variety of golf courses in the Vilamoura area.
Good discount on all the Pestana golf courses, but surprised that this did not extend to a cheaper buggy if required.
Usually like to walk courses with an electric trolly, especially when the pull trolleys are ancient as most seem to be in the Algarve.
But the electric trolley hire was 23 Euro so for 2 was one more euro than the buggy which was 45 Euro.

if you walk through the vila sol estate about 20 mins is a small area with a pub,restaurants and small supermarhet
