The pool is clean and nice and quiet. There is no reception at all so if you have any issues you have to contact the owners direct. I feel the apartments have become privately owned and ready for a face lift but wouldn't put me off booking if you don't mind a cheap and cheerful break away. One other point the make is the main pool is very deep so children cannot stand up in it. There is a small kids pool though.
The nearest place to get drinks/snacks is about 5mins walk and some people were not impressed with this, but you were allowed to bring in what you wanted at the apartment; so you were not paying over the odds for things. The marina is 10mins walk away so you get to burn off some of the alcohol from the night before!!
Vilamoura in itself is a great place to stay and there is plenty to keep you entertained for a short stay.
The staff are nothing but friendly, helpful and attentive without pushing for tips too, just genuinely helpful.
The apartment was very clean and well equipped. Even had air con!
The pools were very clean and quiet with a snack/drinks bar.
The area is really tidy and beautify.
Just a short walk (15mins) to the marina and beach. Parking everywhere.
Has quite a villagey feel.
We'll definitely be going back!
For a 3 star complex the apartment itself exceeded our expectations – it was very clean, modern décor, specious with large balcony overlooking the pool. Nicely presented bathroom with good shower, hairdryer and fresh clean towels provided everyday if required. On the negative side there was no safe available in the apartment despite our itinerary stating that there would be, this obviously came to a shock to us as we have never stayed anywhere without a safe before! However the reception staff were very friendly and helpful, they kept our passports in the hotel safe for safekeeping until we left.
As to location, these apartments are not as conveniently located as we’d wish, we were aware that it was a short walk to the marina, it was at least a 15 minute walk away and the beach similar distance. The nearest supermarket was again a good 10 minute walk away. However a taxi is only about 3.50 euros if you can’t be bothered walking. Furthermore it is not an unpleasant walk, it is pretty flat all the way with good pavements to the centre of Vilamoura.
The complex itself has little facilities only a pool. So when lounging at the pool you couldn’t pop to get a drink or snack, there is also no restaurant. It also comes across that some of the complex is privately owned and occupied by locals. The pool seemed very clean with sunloungers available, we didn’t go in as it was too cold. The exterior of the complex looks tired and could do with some attention.
Vilamoura itself is a lovely resort with a pleasant marina, some great restaurants and fantastic shops.
Overall the apartment itself you couldn’t fault and would rate it 3 stars, but as for the complex itself with the lack of facilities I would rate it 2 star.
We caught the bus to loule and albufuria and it was approx 4.25 each way per person but the bus time tables aren't very frequent and the albufuria bus stops about a mile from town so it's a little tricky to get back again but happy to advise if interested. One day we had rain so caught an uber to the big MAR shopping and outlet centre it cost approx 30euro return and I must say the uber drivers were excellent. They had a big Ikea there and Primark.
Walked into quarteria but not a great deal going on, for us wasn't worth it but might b better on market day. But caught the bus to loule from here.
All in all we had a great week. Cheap to get to and stay but not that cheap when your there. Apartments kept very clean, basic but suited us fine. Enjoyed watching the woodpeckers from our balcony and the comfy sitting area as well as the massive balcony.
Room had a freezer, hob, microwave and toaster. Great for knocking up a few quick eats. Maids come and ckean daily and change towels, empty nins etc. Price of wine in local supermarket approx 2 euro a bottle and not bad for the money so had many a bottle on the balcony.
Lovely beaches.
Normal check out is 11am but staff let us keep on the room until 2pm when we left for airport for no extra charge (probably as it was quiet but if u don't ask you don't get!).
Poolside is very quiet no music but that suited us. Very sheltered sun trap. Pool freezing so only managed a couple of lengths. Little snack bar too.
All in all great value. Payed a lot more for a lot less. Happy to advise if you want any extra info
Arrived very early- 11am. Reception got our rooms ready ASAP by midday (could have been 3pm but they were very accommodating) room was spacious and clean, bedroom separate to the lounge and kitchen - good layout. Big Balcony on 3rd floor. Air con in the lounge AND the bedroom. Maids cleaned every day. No complaints at all. Pool was ok but only used it on day 1 while we waited for the room. I don't go to Villamoura to sit by a pool. The beaches are to die for. Its a 20 min walk to Villamora Beach and the other side of the marina, Falasia Beach is 30 min walk. Both have facilities - toilets, cafes along the beach. Sunbeds are 18Euros for 2 plus umbrella. Or you can have luxury ones for 25 euros.
Tip for snorkellers - The sea is not clear and is pretty murky and churned up so don't bother. It can be quite random form one day to the next. Very calm one day and wonderful to swim in, and the next, massive waves and a big undertow. Strong swimmers only!!
Weather was boiling and even hotter than normal for there. 36 degrees on one day and over 30 for all the other.
Spar shop is 5 mins walk from apartments, Marina for the evening is 15 mins. We worked out we'd walked at least 10k a day! Ah well, its all good for you to work off the gin and tonics!
Restaurants recommended are The Mayflower for good quality and good selection, My Thai (Thai -!! and my favourite one this time)and the 19th Hole do good 'man food'.
Fab live band in the Irish bar next to Atlantic bar. Drinks are quite expensive for a holiday. 7-12 euros for a gin, plus 2.50 euro for tonic. or 1 for dash of coke/lemonade. try Figo 7 deck for cocktails. they do a good Mai Tai. Nowhere does real creamy cocktails though. Bottle of house red 14.50 some do the same bottle, tried a few but all v tasty!
I love Villamoura and am going back next year for my 5th time!
Oh one last thing - Tuesdays is bin day! Woken up very early by the bin men!!
