We stayed at the Residences from 6th to 13th September.
This is not the normal type of holiday that we would take but we were pleasantly surprised.
The apartment was exceptional for the three of us. There were 2 bedrooms 2 bathrooms a large living room and kitchen.
The balcony was ideal for late afternoon sunshine and overlooked the golf course.
During the week of our visit the Portuguese Masters was on so the hotel next door was closed as this was a bubble for the players.
The reception staff were extremely helpful in giving advice on where to go and helping get room service for basic needs.
With the hotel being out of bounds, we had breakfast at the residences snack bar and we had to go into Vilamoura for our evening meal. This was at the Tivoli Marina where the food and service were exceptional.
This was because we were on a half board basis.
The snack bar was convenient and the food drink and service was first class.
The one down side is that the supermarkets are in Vilamoura so you either have to drive or get a taxi. In the evening there is a complimentary shuttle taxi to take you into Vilamoura.
There were more than sufficient sun beds to accommodate every one.
The level of PPE on site, in the taxis and in Vilamoura was very strict. When the rooms were cleaned the cleaning staff entered the room in full PPE and you had to be out of the room.
Sadly on our return to the UK we have had to self isolate.
Whilst at the Residences we felt safe, the staff were exceptional, the apartment was fantastic and the holiday was worth self isolating for.

Spent a month here in January. Accomodation very generous and well appointed. Front room/diner large and airy with large balcony and good size TV with lots of English programs -good lighting. Two large bedrooms (one double bed, 2 singles). One balcony, one French balcony. Good lighting. Small TV in each. Two bathrooms with underfloor heating and heated towel rails and one bath and a walk-in shower. Kitchen had dishwasher, oven, washing machine, microwave kettle and full sized fridge freezer. All windows had electric shutters. All rooms heated/air conditioned. Gymn small but equipment srviceable. Indoor pool OK except for depth which was waist deep. Outside pool beautfull but very cold of course. All staff unfailingly polite, friendly and professional Special mention for Pedro for cutting the lock off my jammed suitcase and Celia who was a daily ray of sunshine. Superb meals were available for delivery from adjacent luxury hotel.

It is clear to see why we return time after time to The Residences. The welcoming staff are a huge factor. Everyone we always come into contact with is so eager and happy to help. Nothing is ever too much trouble. The reception/office staff are amazing and answer any query you have. They are hugely knowledgeable and very happy to assist in any way they can. Our accomodation is always to a very high standard where we cannot fault anything. It was a different holiday with covid in place but the Residences and The Anatara Hotel managed perfectly. We always saw staff disinfecting the sunbeds and keeping everything amazingly clean. We enjoyed eating at our al fresco restaurant where the kids loved the food and getting an ice cream and the food for adults was just as wonderful. It was nice to see one of the waiters still there after many years, a lovely welcoming presence for us. Thank you Residences for the most wonderful stay as always. We cannot wait to return.

We had stayed previously with 2 adults and 8 month old and key decision to return was security for a now 3.5 year old and her 8 month old sister. The complex feels secure as behind card access security gates so I felt comfortable non guests couldn't get access and kids couldn't get out. Like our previous visit we stayed in 2 bed apartment. Check in smooth and everyone very friendly and helpful. Apartment I consider of a high standard with very good facilities and quality. Although apartment style there is a daily maid/ cleaning service which is excellent and who were all very friendly to children or accommodating around naps. Bar staff very friendly and excellent - taking time to gets to know kids names, what people liked etc. Really good. I think Victor and Nuno - hopefully correct names. Very impressive to see them take time with families and one family in particular with some special needs. The pool facilities and gym all very good and easy access to excellent run/ cycle path. Location suited us as quiet for kids although not within walking distance of marina or any shop that I know of. We rented a car as better for 2 small children and access to various activities outside of taxi/ uber. There is also a shuttle to marina so I think would be manageable without car. Overall an excellent visit and the decision to return turned out great. Will definitely plan on returning and easy to recommend.

Fabulous apartments. Large double bedrooms plus 3 bathrooms. Well appointed kitchen with a good laundry area off the kitchen outside with a washing machine. There was a large laundry drying rack which held 2 wash loads.

The apartment could do with a bit of updating. The air conditioner in the main bedroom didn’t work very well but the other 2 bedrooms had newer air conditioning units that worked well. Housekeeping was a bit hit & miss. They didn’t always leave us enough towels but would bring more quickly if we called reception.

The reception area is a bit of a let down but the staff were very nice & helpful. Nice pool but you are only allowed one towel per person per day.

We had bed & breakfast which was next door at the Anantara hotel next door. The choice & quality of food was superb. We had dinner at the hotel buffet several times which was equally good.

We used the kids club at the Anantara which the children aged 4 & 6 really liked. We sat round the childrens splash pool with our baby and the older children could pop out to see us if they desired.

There are no other restaurants or supermarkets within walking distance but they run a shuttle to the marina, which a few of us used several times. They could really do with having a mini market on site.

We only used the pool restaurant at the Residence twice. The first time we had a decent lunch the second time the food was not great.

Overall we had a wonderful family holiday and would definitely go back if we go to Portugal again. If it was just 2 of us we would definitely stay at the Anantara next door but for a family it was good value at the Residence.

Huge property in the middle of many apartment complexes. 3 bed apartment clean & well equipped. But it completely lacked any atmosphere - no one there! Guests or staff. The front desk was always staffed when we visited but no one poolside. The outdoor restaurant felt like you were eating in a 'pop up' in a large open space. Only 1 other table occupied whilst we were there for lunch. We used pool & restaurant at Anatara for rest of the stay as there was definitely more atmosphere there. There are no shops at all nearby so either order an online shop ahead (min spend 75 euros) or have a hire car. Make sure you book the courtesy bus well ahead to ensure you get a space, taxi to Marina is 17 euros if booked via reception. 9 euros to return from marina taxi rank. If you want a very quiet stay with no interaction with anyone else this is your property!

Currently on holiday at The residences at the moment (3ads a 2 1/2 yrs and a 14 month) but our experience is leaving quite a bad taste in our mouths, now I cannot fault the apartment whatsoever, we have a 3 bedroom and it is lovely, not overly child friendly but no complaints, unfortunately that’s where the good news ends for us, we arrived on Sunday at 2pm at 7pm we wanted dinner, all restaurants closed and we were unable to get 24hr room service which is provided by the Anantara hotel next door, eventually at 10pm we walked up to the Anantara where they said they had no idea why we couldn’t be provided with room service, we ordered some food for the children but to be honest it was not worth the money at all, for Anantara you’d expect more. Yesterday we pre booked seats on the shuttle bus to the marina at 10am for today and at 10am today we arrived they had booked 11ppl in a 6 seat van and not provided car seats as promised so we ended up not getting our shuttle and it took them an hour to arrange a new one,
There doesn’t really seem to be a care given by the staff which is frustrating as they don’t seem to understand their mistakes. A car is essential as far as we are concerned as there is nowhere to eat in walking distance or a supermarket for that matter no matter what people say, from talking to other people it seems pre covid there was a lot more on offer and they have just stayed on a cut back basis.
Overall we are here for 4 nights and it has all been tainted

We booked a last minute holiday the first since the pandemic. We wanted a quieter resort which was in easy reach of facilities if we wanted to venture further afield. The residences met all our needs. The apartment had everything you could ask for, equipped with all you need and cleaned to a high standard every day.

All staff could not do enough, they were happy to go the extra mile and stopped to chat when they had time. Victor and Kelly at the piazza bar were exceptional.

Taxis arrived within 5 minutes and the shuttle service when booked was excellent.

We had a bed and breakfast package and breakfast was in the next door Anatara hotel, the service here was excellent staff were friendly and food choice was what you would expect in a 5 star hotel.

The marina at Vilamoura offers great restaurants and the beach has bars and great facilities. To get here you do have to book the shuttle ( which is free) or book a taxi, for 10€ a journey it's great to have the choice to stay by the pool or join the livelier crowd in Vilamoura.

Stayed here again really good as normal excellent service from all the staff the only changes are your not allowed to use the spa next door anymore for free ,its now got a 20 euro charge per person per visit and you can not use there sister hotel in the Marina now for swimming . Breakfast was excellent at the Hotel next door . Car is needed if you stay here as its a fair way to town although I do believe there is a free transfer .

We have stayed in the residences with our kids for a number of years and had another great visit again! The apartments are very spacious and the grounds and pools are kept immaculately. The reception staff are always very helpful and will go above and beyond for you. The superior apartments with view are worth the extra money - it really is spectacular overlooking the golf course. At present, with the Covid situation, the staff are taking safety very seriously so everything is cleaned even more than usual. It’s perfect for families and couples.

Are there bicycles to hire? And if s, wha is the cost?
Answer from James S
Southampton, United Kingdom54 contributions20 helpful votes
Unfortunately not. We did enquire about the "Boris" bikes that are located close to the hotel but you need to be a local to gain access. The company that run these bikes say that some hotels have an account so guests can hire them, but I was just met with quizzical looks when I asked at reception. Its a real shame as the whole area is set up for riding bikes.
