At Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort, guests frequently laud the attentive and friendly service, as well as the lively atmosphere enhanced by a DJ. The spacious, modern rooms are commonly described as clean and well-equipped, though some guests note occasional maintenance issues. While the comprehensive amenities are a hit, the pool policies and suitability for families receive mixed reviews.
Visitors often find the location picturesque but somewhat remote, and the noise from nearby construction can be a disturbance. Additionally, many feel that the hotel's pricing does not offer good value, criticizing the costly dining and additional fees.

Detailed Reviews
Myself and my two teenage boys have just returned from a 5 day break to this lovely hotel. The staff couldn't have been friendlier and more accommodating. I was quite worried having seen some of the recent reviews but I think this must have been due to the sudden changes in Portuguese travel status relative to other European destinations making the guest numbers unpredictable.
We had interconnecting rooms and were given our room on arrival at 9.30am so we could head for an extra buffet breakfast. COVID means that the breakfast stations are all manned but the quality and variety remains the same. We had one dinner in the hotel as well plus room service which was all lovely.
Hotel pool was lovely with lots of luxurious sunbeds and no problem getting them. The gym was very well equipped and you book at the moment to ensure it is sanitised. We also took the shuttle to the beach club and the marina which was handy although you can get Ubers for a few euros as well.
We would definitely go back.

We arrived at this hotel and was greeted by someone straight away who took our suitcases. We were greeted at reception & told where our rooms were (we took our suitcases ourselves to our room but did they did offer) our room was honestly one of the best rooms I’ve stayed in!
The room is spacious, light & trendy. The mirrors and lighting were perfect, the wardobe space was massive and the bed extremely comfy with lovely pillows. Spare ones in the wardrobe to. A massive bath which was a great extra!
We visited both pool areas but preferred the adults only pool. It was a lot more chilled & relaxing, the bar staff are super friendly and if you order a drink or food they bring to your sunbed!
I do want to mention a few things which for me just don’t quite make it perfect (but in the middle of the review because I don’t want to end on a bad note because I do love this hotel) I diddnt see the pools get cleaned once and they are a bit dirty even a kid shouted in one when he went under water how much rubbish was in them :( not saying they don’t get cleaned but it doesn’t seem it. The price for a bottle of water is quite bad 3.50 euro for small bottle. When I’m on holiday I drink a lot of water so this for me wasn’t very fair, they do give you one bottle a day in your room but if you like to keep hydrated I think it’s quite bad. Also a wedding was taken place on our last night so the adults pool was not to be used all day which was sad for us as it was our last day & our fav area. The music went on until midnight it was very loud and had dicsco lights all night, I just don’t think a wedding reception should be taken place directly infront of people’s rooms :( if your a light sleeper and have a wedding whilst you stay here and your room is near the adults pool then pack earplugs! The wedding did look a lot of fun etc and I’d recommend having a wedding here if you are after somewhere because it is beautiful :)) just seems to me the hotel maybe shouldn’t host wedding receptions outside peoples rooms
That’s it - everything else is lovely, the staff are super friendly. Enough beds for all around the pool. The food is sooooo good highly recommend the pizza round the pool! They offer a free shuttle service which is more like a fancy taxi to the marina which is amazing and friendly service to. I’d recommend going to the shops and grabbing some drinks (water) and crisps etc as the prices here are quite high if you are only breakfast like us. The breakfast was such a great mix of everything highly impressed :)
Not sure I’d stay again but it honestly is a lovely hotel which friendly staff & great food! Thanks for a great time :))

Where do I begin to describe this wonderful hotel?!
From the moment you walk through the glass doors into the amazing reception area everything you could possibly need in at your fingertips. Check in is always a pleasant experience, calm & efficient. Concierge are on hand to help with anything you require. There’s also a free return shuttle to the marina & beach whenever you wish to visit.
The rooms are spotlessly clean & have sun beds on the generous sized balcony. The superking sized beds are incredibly comfortable complete with high quality linens. There’s a nightly turn down service too.
The bathrooms with their rainfall showers & massive baths feel very luxurious & there is always a plentiful supply of top quality toiletries available. The whitest fluffiest towels you’ve ever seen! Bathrobes & slippers come as standard.
The pool areas are stunning! All are immaculately maintained with various sun bed options such as cabanas, single sun beds & double lounge beds.
Plenty of fresh towels always available & the pool bar service is very good.
It’s such a peaceful area plus there is also an adult only pool area if you wish to relax there instead.
Breakfast is also amazing! Everything you could want with lots of drink options, freshly cooked omelettes etc.
All the staff are wonderful & offer impeccable service from start to finish. Josè, Bruno ( Hey Bruno, my beer has evaporated again ) & David deserve a special mention as they’ve really looked after us on our most recent trip, all so friendly & genuinely eager to offer the best service possible. Thank you! We shall be back soon! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Extremely disappointed with our stay here and only 4 days in of a 2 week holiday.
After months of waiting to be able to plan a family vacation I’m saddened that this hotel doesn’t live up to its 5 star rating.
Understandable, with covid regulations etc we knew certain things would be different or a struggle, but this is just diabolically run.
Upon arrival our room was not ready and we had to wait 4 hours around the pool with tied hot kids.
We finally got our room to find we had been given 2 single beds that had been pushed together, not mine and my husbands idea of comfort. After asking for a double room, like we had booked, we was told there wasn’t any left although at this point the hotel was pretty empty! Our room was also over looking the adult pool! Great for adults wanting to relax with my children wanting to play on the balcony.
Food is nice but not a great selection at all. No soft drinks included with meals on full board and alcohol prices are shocking.
The pool area is ok although no life guard. I wouldn’t even bother ordering pool food as it takes and hour to arrive and drinks also or they get forgotten totally.
There is no atmosphere here with no back ground music or evening entertainment. Just the lobby bar.
The kids club has no one manning it and the park is poor.
The golf course is also closed 🤷♀️
Finally the maid service is the worst I’ve ever experienced. They barley clean your room and if they do they leave no towels.
One evening after getting home from dinner around 10.30pm our room hadn’t even been cleaned.
Now that they are at full capacity the ques for food are unbarable in the mornings and at dinner time.
For a country that takes covid so seriously and staff that demand you sanatise your hands and wear a mask everywhere, the capacity this hotels is at, clearly doesn’t meet the guidelines. They are over run and understaffed. Greed has got the better of them!!

Dear Guest, Truly regret to know that we were clearly not able to meet your expectations as during the period visited the Hotel was experiencing some constrains on services and facilities caused by a sudden demand for the Region after the reopening of UK borders. We are sad to understand this had such impact on your stay and apologize for the inconvenience caused, all your comments will be duly analyzed for future improvements. Allow us to clarify that due to the pool features it is not required by law to have a lifeguard on site and that our Kids Club is currently operating with a dedicated Team and a daily schedule of activities. The Team truly hopes you consider to return on another occasion and give us the opportunity to showcase the true Anantara Experience. Kind Regards, The Management

What to say about this hotel? so much promise? some nice rooms and a nice setting of the course but that's about it. Where do I start. We are spoilt by the places we usually visit which are often the best hotels in the World. Due to the travel restrictions and covid we thought we would come to the Algarve and chose this hotel instead of a villa for example or another property. Part of the decision was based on the Anantara brand name which we have heard if fairly strong whilst not experiences directly.
So from when we got in there was no bell service on entry, this is something basic we expect of a 5 star hotel. Disappointing to begin with. Check in was ok though there were a lot of people in the Lobby which is not the Hotels fault. What was bad though was that one room not ready to check into. We had to wait in the lobby area for a few hours, we were however given free drinks as recompense. The room itself was OK though we had a child bed in our room that despite a number of requests no one ever removed. The corridors need some new decor maybe? Breakfast, awful, cold most of the time and what made it worst was we were lining up everyday like school children. I felt embarrassed for the Hotel. The food itself was of a poor quality. We had Full Board included and trust me on this, don't do it, the lunch and dinner were the worst I have ever experienced in my life, truly abysmal food, shocking even. People were lining up in the kids queue to get pizza and chips as the food was so atrocious. Some staff were amazing though, I will say, especially bar staff however others were completely and utterly miserable like they were waiting on us for free? We had
no room service until we asked for it on third day. This is in spite of the fact we asked for it on the phone and left our 'make up rooms' signs every morning and even during the day whilst we were out. Amenities were nice but they were not replenished unless we asked someone in the corridor whilst they were walking about to tending to another room. There was no water until we asked for it, again, most 5* hotels provide daily or at least one bottle of water for the room. Finally service when we asked for it was usually slow, whether it be us picking our car or getting some food. Not what we expected.
On the plus side the hotel has a wonderful indoor spa and pool which we made very good use of since it was very windy outside when went on some days and because had of England had decided upon this region which meant the pools were completely full of Brits abroad and their wild children.
A Shame. Do not recommend, please try another hotel.

On arrival we were given two rooms, numbers 3 and 7 - miserable view opposite concrete tennis court, whilst we did not expect full frontal, we did not expect this view.
Room cleaning not until 5.30 on two nights, turn down was missed three out of seven nights, and was a very basic turndown.
No water given at night or at pool.
Dining room interior decor very basic, not like five star deluxe hotel, and long queues on few of the days for breakfast.
Food outlets disappointing, area for lunch at both pools, but limited choice.
In high season pools would have been overflowing as there was not much seating available.
Lobby was bare and unwelcoming. The main bar in the lobby very very small and uninviting.
Not sure how this hotel gets a 5 star rating, more like an upmarket motel.
Pool service staff very very nice and restaurant staff too, though food offerings, especially a buffet we saw one night, was very basic.
Room scales not working despite the fact we asked for batteries twice, and no tissues until we requested same.
Many beautiful hotels in the Algarve, this is not one of them.

We stayed here at the end of June and it was lovely.
The hotel was busy but never felt busy. Both pools are lovely - the main pool was busy and classic reserving of sunbeds but we always used the adult pool where we always got a bed.
We had a garden room (overlooking the adult’s pool) which was lovely and peaceful. The rooms were big and spacious, plenty of storage space. The rooms were cleaned well and there was a turndown service which was a bit sketchy at times.
The location is good, we used the shuttle down to Vilamoura which was always good and readily available, I know in peak summer they struggle again Uber is readily available too, which was always good service especially if you want to pop to other towns for dinner etc. We knew before booking that the hotel had not much nearby and also no beach (but beach is accessible with shuttle) which we did absolutely miss, as we do like to get out and about.
The staff are really what makes this hotel they are all friendly and helpful. All the people in the breakfast area are great they get to know you so they know where you like to sit and how you like your coffee. The guys at the pool bars especially by the adult pool - the guy that made us the best iced coffees daily was fab and friendly. This is what makes this place.
Would I stay again no but only down to the location and missing the beach! But don’t let that put you off - book you won’t regret!

Dear guest, We are very pleased with your excellent comment. We appreciated your honest opinion as it is very important for us to understand and improve the experience of our customers. We regret that our location has been a less positive point for you and we really hope that despite this and the fact that we have a shuttle on request to/from the Marina, we will be able to welcome you back. Kind Regards, The Management

Firstly, what made this a 4* review was the quality of the hotel and the attentivness of the staff. The hotel itself is great quality. Nice rooms, nice food and a very upmarket feel to the facilities and common areas.
The staff were also fantastic. Very polite, extremely attentive and very helpful at all times. Especially the staff at the entrance who were always there to fetch our car from the car park. On the day of departure they even took the bags directly from the room and loaded them directly into the car ready for us to drive off. The staff have been trained to deliver 5* service and it shows.
The dissapointing thing for us was the 'feel' of the hotel. To us it felt quite souless and business like. I could imagine attending a big conference there and it being nice but it didn't have much going on if you were staying there on a family leisure trip. Some live music or some form of evening entertainment wouldn't have gone a miss.
The outdoor pool is heated but was still quite cold. Kids can't use the indoor pool at the hotel but we could use one at their apartments complex a short walk from the entrance.
The kids club was not operational which was a shame as this was one of the reasons we selected the hotel.
Location wise there is not much going on around the hotel. Nowhere really to walk to and see some life or bars/restaurants and the beach is a drive/shuttle away too.
I struggled with the hotel being called a 'resort' because that suggests you can spend all your time there but there was so little going on that most days we had breakfast and then headed out somewhere else before coming back to sleep in the evenings (very pleased we had a car).
All of these drawbacks are no fault of the excellent staff though who couldn't have done more to look after us.

We had read some of the reviews from the busy summer months and therefore checked in for our 9 night stay with some trepidation. We needn’t have been concerned as we had a really great stay and didn’t experience the issues previously outlined.
The excellent service made this hotel, if there were any issues they were rectified without hesitation. The breakfast service was exceptionally well organised and social distancing well observed in the buffet (which is a proper buffet now). The hotel is a little way out of Vilamoura marina but the shuttle worked well, you do have to share with other family groups in close proximity so that is a small downside.
There were always free loungers around one of the pools but the prime spots were always with towels on early morning - slightly annoying really as they were empty for a while.
The rooms are very spacious, only criticism is that ours appears to have had some water damage as some of the furniture was warped, small things like this is why I haven’t given it 5/5.
We were a bit confused about the evening dining offering as we were led to believe on check-in that the Victoria restaurant was buffet in the evening, but we were dining in Emo on our final night and we could see the Victoria restaurant terrace and it was obvious it was al a carte. Which we had realised this sooner! The food in Edo is very good, but as it is fine dining you wouldn’t want to eat there each night. There are loads of options round the Marina or short Uber away so with a bit of research you can find lovely food.
The beach club was great, especially over the weekend, and we had no problem booking loungers. The food down there was decent as well. It usually costs 40-50Euros for a lounger so it is definitely worth taking advantage of this as part of the Anantara offering where they are complimentary. You also receive free water and fruit on arrival which is a nice touch.
I would definitely return to the hotel, its proximity to the Victoria golf club is what initially attracted us to it (they do free shuttles to other local golf clubs too) but overall the quality of food, service and accommodation meant we had an extremely enjoyable stay.

Stayed here last year in august 2020 a few weeks before the Portuguese open where the hotel was hosting - I think the guests were a test run... arrived and all standard stuff with check in, but we weren’t shown around the hotel so after dropping our bags off we drifted around for a bit looking lost till a fellow guest showed us the hotel pool, bar and where to have breakfast. We got to the pool area where there is a bar and lunch service, it was under staffed, under prepared and was mayhem. We waited 30 mins for our water and left to find a quiet spot and chill. We booked half board and dinner was off a menu choice of about 3 items. We ordered off the main menu and paid. The room was presentable but the AC didn’t work, we got moved to room closer to reception and it was marginally cooler. Room was cleaned at irregular times and often left with basic items, we ended up having a coffee from wine glasses despite repeated request for cups. Called the tour operator and down graded from half board to just breakfast. I wanted to leave but my other half didn’t want the hassle. The only positive thing about the hotel was the staff working on the ground, lovely people. The other positive thing was we stayed out of the hotel and found lovely places in the main town and beach.

Good Morning,
Kindly note there is different room types on the Adults side of the resort from the family side which have different prices.
Could you kindly clarify which room type you were looking at?
Thank you
When we stayed in August, none of the pools were heated. The children’s pool was so cold, it was unusable.
The management did mention they had plans to heat the pool, but provided no timescale for it to be implemented.
I would suggest checking with them. If you are travelling with children, then please be aware of the restrictions as large parts of the hotel are ‘adult only’ - we checked out after one day due to this change of policy which was not communicated and introduced at the started in July 2023.
Hi, we saw very young children with pushchairs getting the shuttle when we were there in May, so it should be fine.
Enjoy.
There was no iron or iron board in the room, you have to ask, they will provide it for you
