In the wild heart of Rajasthan, where the badlands whisper secrets of a bygone era, stands Brij Lakshman Sagar. Originally crafted in the late 19th century by Thakur Lakshman Singh Ji of Raipur, this boutique hotel was a hunting lodge fit for nobility. Fast forward to today, and we’ve reimagined this majestic retreat, honoring its past with a keen eye on preserving the beauty of its surroundings. Picture this: 32 acres of unspoiled land, where 12 independent cottages boast private pools and the luxury of seclusion. Each detail, from the historic water catchment to the hand-carved pool perched atop a rock hill, whispers tales of tranquillity and grandeur. Here, the architecture is a nod to the local, the rustic, and the utterly authentic—a zero-kilometer design philosophy that uses only materials sourced from the very earth it stands on. Brij Lakshman Sagar isn’t just a hotel; it’s a spellbinding escape into the soul of Rajasthan.

We stayed at Lakshman Sagar during our three week tour of Rajasthan. We decided that between each mad city tour we would take a quiet break along the way and chose LS because it seemed to offer that. How right we were. LS is a large area of land overlooking a lake in the low lying hills near Raipur. It is quiet, peaceful but with great views and wildlife. Each room/villa has a plunge pool and there is a reasonably large (not heated) pool. On arrival we were greeted by Kunall like long missed cousins and taken to one of the twelve villa/rooms in the large grounds. We were here for two days which we spent relaxing by the pool or communing with nature. The wildlife, particularly bird life is stunning, both on the estate and in the surrounding area. Dailie (apologies if I have I misspelt the name) took us on a Jeep bird tour which was wonderful. We saw at least 50 different species of bird including Pelican, Stork and Marsh Harrier. A great experience. At night we looked at the stars and with the help of the team saw many things we had not seen before. The rooms are lovely, large, interesting, great views and comfortable. The food delicious. My wife has specific dietary requirements due to health and our agent informed each hotel before we left. At LS the manager had researched her condition and designed a high fibrous low spice/chilli meal each evening but which still reflected local Indian cuisine. What more could one ask. If you are on a tour and want some quiet time go here. If you just want quiet time go here.

Laksham Sagar is one a kind experience that I have had in India. We went around Rajasthan to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Laksham Sagar was the highlight of our journey. The property is situated on a private lake with pool villas surrounding the lake. All rooms have private plunge pool but the showstopper was the massive rock cut pool (largest in asia). The company managing Lakshman Sagar i.e. Sewara hospitality really understand the importance of providing guest with a three dimensional experiences. Their whole concept of zero kilometre or simple living is something that made me realise the true joy of being on a vacation.

The mardana and zanana building made us travel back to a bygone era where kings and queens used to rule those lands. The stories and folklore attached to the property along with the natural surrounding had a very calming soothing effect on us.

Sometimes in life we visit places which stay alive with us in our memories forever. Lakshman Sagar is definitely one of those.

No doubt that this is a luxurious property for a stay-cation, hence on the higher price range side, but its totally worth it. Went here for a couple of days and had the best time ever. The property is magnificent, beautifully constructed . Took my dog along as well . It is pet friendly with additional cost. We had traditional Indian food which was very homely. Private pool, picturesque lake, clay construction of the resort , privacy of each cottage , amazing hosts, clear sky for star gazing , calm and serene atmosphere are some of the major features of this place.

This place isn't for you if :
1. You are looking to party with loud music etc. Property is constructed keeping in peace with the wildlife and nature, hence loud parties etc will definitely take away the calmness from this place and scare off the surrounding animals.

2. If you have very young kids. The terrain of the area is rocky/hilly. There is some amount of walking involved within the property as well and there are edges from places near the cottages which is not safe for young kids. They would have to be continuously monitored.

3. If you hate walking. The cottages are built around the lake and some distance is kept between these cottages to maintain privacy which is actually excellent. But if you just cant walk then this isn't for you. One needs to wear walking shoes here as its a rocky area.

4. If you cant do without people/crowd/TV/internet/etc. The property is designed for quiet getaways. So ones coming from busy city life may take a second to absorb the quietness all of a sudden but once it sinks in, the peace can definitely be appreciated.

5. Lastly this isn't for you if you're on a budget. This is an expensive place . I do check my budget most times but this time I had to do something special for my husband so surprised him by taking him here and it was worth it.

A beautiful property managed by people who need basic training in hospitality.
Pros- property, room size, staff (other than the manager) and food (when you do get it on time)
Cons- Manager lacks basic etiquette and service can be very slow.

Here is our experience from our last week’s trip especially with one of their manager named Indrani.
1. Four of us sat around the bonfire and sang some songs not loud at all and not too late either it was about 7.15pm. We were point blank told by Indrani not to sing and sit quietly as it ‘might’ disturb other guests (there were a total of just 2 other guests at the property at the time other than the 4 of us). All this based on a ‘might’ nobody had complained since we weren’t loud to begin with. While I understand and it’s important not to disturb others but we weren’t loud, we were not playing music on our phone and it was just 7.15pm. With no other activities to do around this property I am not sure what else one can do around Christmas Eve! I went on a vacation to this place not to sit quietly around the fire that I can do at home too.
2. Next day when we all were soaking the sun in their common area where they had spread soft beds to do exactly that, we were told to move to our own rooms since they were expecting other guests to check in and in their mind us sitting together on 4 beds was getting in their way of aesthetics. Seriously! Then why have you spread those beds there? You should put a board there that reads ‘for show and aesthetics only’. Am I not a guest too who paid for the stay? How and who decides when can a guest use a service and when is it not okay? This was down right ridiculous to be told to move to your room, nobody gets to decide where we can and should or should not sit!
3. The food was quite good but the service was so slow that when you got the bread the curry was delayed or when you got the veggies the breads took so long that we almost always had a cold meal. Quite a downer since the food did taste good. This should and can be fixed easily but I am not sure why nobody pays attention to these more important aspects of the stay.

In all if you don’t mind being told off and given feedback on what to do, what not to do, at what decibel to talk and when not to, sit in one place or the other and eat cold food then do visit the property is actually pretty just all the rest of it is very unprofessional and down right bad experience! I will never visit this place again and I won’t be recommending it to my friends and family either.

Hello Ms. Nipun, We are extremely apologetic about such a delayed response to your feedback and are honestly at an absolute loss of words on receiving your review. Without trying to have any sort of retort to any of your feelings and what has obviously been a bitter experience and memory, please do excuse us nonetheless to also please present back our views. We do understand and empathize with everything you have mentioned and would personally ourselves while traveling not depart with displeasure & disappointment. To start with, apologies for any delays in the food delivery to your table especially the delay in bajra khichdi at the breakfast table on the day of your departure since it was a very special order. We have discussed the same internally and have taken your observations on this matter as with the rest of the details shared by you, and gone ahead and taken a lot of internal measures to make the necessary improvements so no guest of ours has to experience similar unfortunate incidents. For a property like Lakshman Sagar guests travel for an absolutely quiet and tranquil time. Unfortunately, no personal music is allowed at all. We did have local folk music on Christmas Eve as well as New Year's eve but unfortunately for you, your stay dates did not coincide with our festive nights. You must have mixed up the dates. Your group checked in on the 29th of December and checked out on the 31st. Christmas eve was not at Lakshman Sagar for your group and you. That being said, it was only after another guest mentioned to our staff that the volume of music from a device and singing (antakshari) was disturbing them that Ms. Indrani requested you to lower the volume. The unanimous decision in your group was to play and sing romantic songs after that to ensure softer volume. We love it when our guests soak in some sun and for that, we have very comfortable cots all around our common areas. However, we do request our guests to not move the cots around the common areas, meant for all guests, at their own will. Indrani only requested you to allow our staff to put the cots in our common area back in place which you had moved at will. With all due respect, Ms. Nipun, there was absolutely no mention of you going back to your room nor sitting up straight on the cots. In fact, after another three hours of lying on the same cots, Ms. Divya from your group went back very happy to her room telling Indrani that she was happy to have been outdoors in the sun for so long. We do wish that your travel agent had conveyed more to you about Lakshman Sagar since clearly, your expectations were not in sync with what we offer. We will be in touch with your agent and expect better guest communication from them the next time. While understanding your anger & frustration on seemingly spoiling a well planned holiday with loved ones, we do hope you do come back to visit us back at Lakshman Sagar, or another Sewara Destination, including a freshly upgraded farm to fork concept property of ours a little outside Pushkar.

Stayed here for one night during a circular tour of Rajasthan. Really wish we had stayed here for longer! The hotel is situated in the country side by a large lake and is really in tune with nature and healthy living. The cottages are fantastic. Spacious, charming, tastefully decorated, comfortable, spotlessly clean and with their own plunge pool. The staff couldn't be better - friendly, charming, informative. The food is fantastic - the salads are to die for, and the evening meal was delicious. The hotel has its own vegetable garden where it grows organic veg and herbs.
The site itself is huge and the cottages well spread out affording privacy for all.
Wifi is good, but more important is the peace and serenity of the place. Have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending this place providing you don't have a mobility problem.
I would give it 6 stars if I could. 5 stars simply isn't enough!

Dear Carol, Thank you very much for writing such wonderful things about Lakshman Sagar. It was an absolute pleasure hosting you. Since we've been getting appreciated for our organic food efforts, we're working on expanding the gardens a little more so we'll be able to grow more fresh vegetables and herbs for our guests. While all our cottages are spaced out and provide the privacy you are absolutely right in saying that the terrain can be slightly challenging for guests with mobility problems. However keeping such guests in mind, we have designed one special room to which access is very easy and no climbing is needed. Thank you once again for such a beautifully worded review. We hope to host you soon at Lakshman Sagar.

A remote hotel … a nice way to relax for a few days doing nothing. All the staff are highly attentive, friendly and always ready to help. A special shout out to Jai !!
Food is very good, freshly prepared and total delicious, drinks are not very well chilled, which is a shame.
Turn down service at night. Towels are good and smell lovely, a first for us in India. Rooms are big. Each lodge has its own plunge pool. We didn’t use ours, as was in need of a clean, water was ok but a lot of leaves, twigs and dead bugs floating on top and down at the bottom. Windows and doors are I’ll fitting, so expect a few critters in your room. Ours had big ants, but at least we had a gecko too (thanks gecko) our lodge was 1/2 kilometre from reception, so a bit of a trek. The main swimming pool which is cleaned in the morning, so if you go in later in the day. You’ll share it with the daily bug suicide squad. This place has some really nice touches but could do better in some areas.
Loads of birds to watch and a large population of peacocks which are beautiful. Stargazing at night. A local walk looking at wildlife is offered in the afternoons.
We were offered a trip into the village and I understand there is a trip for safari which we didn’t know about. Sometimes information is a little sketchy. But all in all I thoroughly recommend this place. It’s a great rest place for a day or two.

Wow, where to start with this place. It's like an oasis of tranquility, like nowhere I have been before.

The property has 12 rooms next to the lake, each with a private pool. The attention to detail in the rooms is remarkable and the bedroom and sitting area are large and comfy.

The property is very rural and peaceful, the only sounds you'll hear are the birds and antelope which roam the property. We sat several times watching the peacock do their mating ritual as there are 400 or so peacock on the property. We also watched the kingfisher hunting for fish from our decking, along with many other birds.

The food was great, in the evening there was a BBQ with all kinds of food. The waiter would come and make a Thali from it and you could have extra of anything you liked.

The tour of the local village was great. We went to a local school and as I'm an English teacher, they allowed me to give a short impromptu lesson. The kids were so eager to learn and so genuinely happy to interact with us. One other thing I liked about the village tour was that we were taken to real local places, where everything was incredibly cheap, and not so that the guide could take commission (which seemed common in the cities we visited).

The whole team at Brij are really amazing. You can't help but relax and feel special at the same time (there are 32 staff, with only a max 24 guests). I would put this as my number 1 experience in Rajasthan and would recommend this as a must to any friends or family visiting Rajasthan.

We stayed here mid way through a visit to Rajasthan and it was the perfect place to decompress and relax. The hotel is set around a small lake with just 12 guest cottages. The cottages are beautiful in their traditional, almost rustic way, and they all feel like they are completely on their own. Each is incredibly spacious inside with high ceilings and multiple rooms, as well as an outside area complete with a plunge pool. The setting of the hotel is stunning and you feel like you're completely immersed in the scrubland wilderness. There were many areas to relax, like atop or within the building overlooking the pool, or indeed anywhere in the grounds.

The food was amazing, with the chefs producing some of the best curries I've ever had. What's more, there is no ordering. The food is simply laid on for you, and all of it, from the canapés and starters to the desert, is phenomenal. Most of the food is cooked using produce from their own farm, and it is unbelievably fresh and delicious.

One other thing of note was just how fantastic the staff were. They were always around to be of assistance and were incredibly attentive at meal times. Moreover, if you desire, they will put on activities for you such as a nature walk around the grounds, mountain biking, bird watching, kayaking, star gazing, a traditional pottery demonstration, spice mixing etc.

It is probably my favourite hotel that I have ever stayed in, and if I ever return to Rajasthan I will be certain to revisit it.

The Brij Lakshman Sagar in Pali was simply the best stay of all the many great places we visited on our recent tour of Rajasthan, India. It's basically a large nature reserve with a series of 12 cottages, each having acres of land to itself. Each morning we'd wake up to see cattle and exotic birds right outside our cottage window. We'd eat breakfast, lunch and supper outside beside the lake. The food is all locally and sustainably grown and you can tell from the superb taste of it. We'd go for walks with a guide who talked us through the local flora, fauna and bird life and who really opened our eyes to the beauty of nature and the relationships between the different species. There was lively Indian classical and folk music each evening from local musicians and singers. In contrast with the noisy, busy, congested and polluted cities, the atmosphere here is clean, fresh and serene. The staff were superb too; happy in their work, attentive to every need and passionately knowledgeable about the local area. In summary, the Brij was an oasis of calm and peace for us. The mood is catching and we made a few new friends too among fellow guests. We loved every minute of our stay there.

Thanks to the whole Lakshman Sagar team for the memorable stay.
