Staff was really nice and welcoming, the castle part is amazing. The annex building clearly the rooms are more basic. Wear and tear visible and bathrooms very basic. To explore the area a great place to start but know it is not a place if you expect any luxury. Also found it to be very noisy. Garden and castle are...

The hotel is party built in an old castle and located in a large parc. In the vicinity you van find woods and open fields. A perfect location for cycling an hiking. When we arrived at the hotel, we were informed that there would be a wedding party in the evening. Allthough there was a lot of music at the...

We stayed at the castle for one night and booked a package that included a welcome drink and a high tea. We had a small but cute room in the adjacent building to the castle. The room had a nice view of the garden, heating, and a great shower. For dinner we ate at the restaurant in the cellar of...

I won a night at this hotel on one of the vacation bidding websites. My boyfriend and I wanted to escape the city and the busy life and relax somewhere for two days. This must have been one of, if not the most romantic trip we ever took. The castle is located in a very quiet area, outside the crowded...

Fantastic setting Good breakfast Terrible rooms Rooms and halls need updating. Stayed in the annex which was like an old peoples home. I can not comment on how the castle rooms are but most rooms are in the annex. Marks on floor and walls, dark dated, smelly unventilated bathroom. Not what the rooms look like on the website. I travel and...

We stayed in the castle. Just one night as we were on a little bike tour. The view from the room was beautiful. It was the middle of a heatwave but the window was big, so we kept it open the whole time. There is no bathroom in the room, but each room has its "own" bathroom in a big...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In Castle the Essenburgh - Hampshire Classic, you find yourself in a unique environment around an even more unique castle, in the green heart of the Veluwe. The atmosphere exudes tradition, but with a modern translation. It is a fairytale castle that has maintained its historic atmosphere of many years ago. An oasis of tranquility prevails on the estate, the surrounding forests and heaths. The sheer beauty of pure nature replaces all your worries with the unforgettable taste of refreshment. The castle has an ideal location where cultural and recreational activities converge. The routes and trails in the area are a must to see for both cyclists and walkers. Castle the Essenburgh - Hampshire Classic is a good base for exploring the old Hanseatic Harderwijk, which is well worth a visit. Two large parks (Dolphinarium and Walibi Holland) are less than half an hour away from us and have a nice day-interpretation for our young guests. To make peacefulness complete, at a short distance from the Castle, Wellness Resort De Zwaluwhoeve is located. ... more   less
