This is supposed to be a gold award place. It's not Tried to book dinner on the phone. Sounded delicious on website. Told rather rudely they don't have a la carte, just table d'hote with no choice. Extremely unhelpful Fridge in room. Yes there was but it was not plugged in so not a lot of use! Offered us milk,...

Just off the A66 on a back road is the small village ( it may not qualify as a village) more a rural hamlet of Newbiggin. The Old School is a quiet location and has a lovely garden to watch the sun go down and rest your feet. The accommodation provides everything a traveller needs even down to a jar...

Having never staying in a guest house before, I was absolutely made up with our one night stay! Pauline and John were amazing hosts and nothing was too much effort. Next time we are up that way, I certainly know where we will be staying! Thanks a lot.

Travelling south for work and decided to stop off in the Penrith area for the night. I was lucky enough to be given the number for the Old School by a local hotel with no vacancies. What I found was a real gem, 5 star guest house, with a warm and friendly welcome. I travel alot, and few top hotels...

My husband and I have just returned from a two-night break with the welcoming, friendly, efficient and just, oh so lovely, Pauline and John. We had the Blue Room which, like the others I am sure, was just perfect. Immaculate in every detail and a bathroom you could dance in - if you so wished. The location is excellent, not...

I was recommended to The Old School by a B&B that had no vacancies and what a delightful move it was. The house is unique and very comfortable. The gardens have won first prize among the B&Bs in Cumbria and deservedly so. John and Pauline are gracious hosts, I could not expect better treatment than what I received. Breakfast was...
