Interesting place. It's not really like a normal hotel. There's a covered outdoor eating area, another covered sitting area and the individual cottages or suites spread out on the site. The swimming pool is up some steps on a little hill. There's not reception or corridors like a normal hotel. We stayed in a Pepper Cottage, which was ok, but a bit dark. the doors were all very low so I bumped my head a few times in the night. If I had to do it again, I'd stay in either the large suite rooms or the smaller "tree-house" rooms near the pool. The pool area was nice, and had good service for drinks and snacks (they give you a little phone to contact the staff). The food was excellent as was the service and friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff.. We did the cookery course (which I'd highly recommend) which involved picking the veg in the garden with the chef, and then cooking a range of dishes with him. This was great fun, informative and the food we got to eat at the end was out of this world. One of my favourite meals ever I think! We also did the forest walk to the waterfalls which was guided by the head gardener. It was good, but was leech city despite wearing the leach socks, and we both had blood drawn. Nothing to worry about, but it takes ages to stop bleeding. Pesky little blighters! So, overall would recommend for a different experience, but would have picked a different room.…
Such a lovely place to stay! We were in the forest room which was picturesque. Lovely staff and amazing location for a bit of time relaxing in paradise with nature (there are rooms not in the forest if you don't want to be THAT close to nature but we did and loved it). Infinity pool is also gorgeous.
My sister has stayed here a couple of times over the last few years and has always raved about it. She and her boyfriend very kindly gave us 3 nights there as part of our honeymoon in Sri Lanka. The area is stunningly beautiful and we were lucky enough to be up close and personal with the surrounding nature, staying in one of the treehouses. We loved it and what an incredible experience to be in one of these for a number of crazy thunderstorms. The tree houses are a little tight on space and as you are in the trees, there are bugs about which might not be everyone’s cup of tea but there are other lovely rooms available. The infinity pool and views are breathtaking. Food was delicious, in particular the curries and hoppers. All staff were so helpful and friendly. In particular our lovely waiter in the evenings, Johnson and Karim. Johnson took us on a very special trip up to Pilkington Point one of the days, which was very memorable. If you are looking for true nature and peace, this is the place to stay.…
We stayed for a night at this lovely place and wished we had stayed longer! The General Manager , Mr Rochan was very present, friendly and his team was very helpful and polite. We stayed at the forest pavilion and loved how it’s fully surrounded by nature. The following day we took a short walk to the private water pool/waterfall area which was just amazing! On top of that the food served was delicious with big portions. Breakfast was great as well with a smiley Chef at the egg station. We will definitely choose to stay here again!
We came for three nights and stayed in the forest pavilion. It was truly wonderful! The nature was magical. Monkeys, butterflies, cows!, flying fluorescent Beetles, lizards, rabbits, eagles the whole lot! We loved the staff and the quiet. The grounds are remarkable and the pool stunning. Even when it rained… who cares! Enjoy! (My girlfriend just cried when i read her this review. Maybe she misses the place already)
I had the most wonderful time at LHK and would go back in a heartbeat! :) The whole property is so beautiful and lush, the staff incredibly friendly and welcoming and the food absolutely amazing. I even got a little tour of the organic garden to see how they grow lots of the vegetables on the grounds. Sleeping in the forest pavilion was my favorite part though! Falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of the wildlife around you is absolutely magical. It really is the perfect place to calm down, eat good food, go through a new book and explore the nearby amazing nature!
This could have been a great hotel. The “villa suite” rooms were lovely although the “suite” was an open courtyard around the edges so not particularly comfortable. After climbing 80 steps you find a great infinity pool - but because of its remoteness no other poolside services were easily available. The food, given the cost of staying here, was very underwhelming. The hotel’s claims to provide delicious local food were overly ambitious and simply not met. Pizzas on the menu? But our main disappointment was that none of the advertised activities were available or obtainable. We particularly were expecting to be able to walk through the 80 acres of woodland and enjoy the countryside or visit tea estates or the local plantation (as per the hotel website) - but disappointingly no information was obtainable on anything - walks, cookery lessons, guided treks - nothing. When we asked for walking suggestions or a walking map - the manager looked surprised at our question. We felt his proposed 20 minute walk to a small waterfall wasn’t really what we had come all this way for. When we pressed the question further he sketched a part road/ part plantation route on a piece of paper and said if we got lost in the woods we could ask local people for help! The best we achieved was simply walking along a road for two miles and back again. The hotel staff mostly comprised young people recruited from the local area which is commendable. They were all very motivated and willing. Sadly for them the hotel has not invested in training or ensured their English skills were adequate for their job. Once here you are stuck even with a driver. To visit Ella or attractions such as Little Adam’s Peak you will need first to endure a 3 hour round trip journey along a largely unmade road.…
Living Heritage Koslanda was our favourite place in Sri Lanka as we explored the island with our 2 year old daughter. GM Kareem and Johnson and the team of friendly staff went out of their way to welcome and support us at the hotel. The chefs cooked up tasty kids meals and then scrumptious meals for us adults. The swimming pool was perfect to frolic in with a toddler as she learnt to swim and our 2 x walks down to the waterfall in the forest were unforgettable. The team bent over backwards to set up trips for us with guides to walk around nearby Diyaluma falls and Pilkington point and Poonagala tea estate which we loved. We stayed for 3 nights in the Pepper cottage which was well equipped and had a lovely courtyard she could play in (also recommend the Suite rooms for families). Waking up to the sounds of frogs and monkeys and birds was just delightful. It is such a peaceful paradise and we yearn to return next year!…
We absolutely loved our time here in Living Heritage Koslanda. It's the perfect place to relax and find peace in busy Sri Lanka. You see in every detail of this property that you're surrounded by nature: you wake up to the sound of monkeys and singing birds. The food was one of the best we've had here in Sri Lanka (even for us as vegetarians, there were a lot of options). We found peace in this hidden gem! Really recommend staying here!
From the moment we walked in Johnston made us feel so welcome, taking us to our room himself, pointing out interesting things along the way. The Forest Pavilions are ideal for a couple who enjoys nature as there are birds flying everywhere along with beautiful butterflies and bees; the perfect setting for a cup of coffee and a good book. The nights were cool but the day can get a bit warm but you can always stroll down to the pool area. If you have kids then choose the suites or the cottage. The meals were delicious and the pre-dinner cocktails were a pleasant surprise which gives you a chance to mingle with other guests if you choose to do so. The walk down to the waterfall isn't for the faint hearted but well worth it! Do be careful of leeches although Johnston will give you leech socks and salt water before you set off! A nature lover's paradise and we would love to return at some point.…
