Detailed Reviews
My wife and I stayed at The Strand Hotel for one night, B&B. We arrived at the hotel and were greeted by a member of staff at the door. We gave our details and were checked in and given the key to our pre booked room. I was then informed that I would have to put ten euros into the parking ticket machine if I was parking in the car park. This covered a 24 hour stay. We were then directed to our room. The room was not that big, but was clean and had a good view of the beach area. The showerroom/toilet was small and had a frosted glass panel in the top half of the door. When using the shower you have to turn the light on to operate the fan, so no time to be shy when standing in front of the glass. The public rooms were very clean and the staff very pleasant. Breakfast was good, although the eggs benedict were served on two large/thick pieces of bread, heated rather than toasted.
On arriving home I noticed that we had left a few small items in the bathroom. I contacted the hotel and asked if some items could be posted to myself, as I lived 120 miles from the hotel, and I would pay the postage. The member of staff spoke to a senior staff member, who in an angry voice replied that this would not be done. I then told the staff member to throw the items in the bin. Electric toothbrushes etc.
My tip would be, enjoy your stay, but do not leave anything behind when you leave.

Dear William Thank you for your review and we are glad you had a good stay with us. Unfortunately, due to the COVID 19 pandemic, any items such as razors and toiletries that are left behind have to be disposed of immediately. We would never ask any of our staff to put themselves at risk. For this reason, we were unable to accommodate your request posting the items. I note that you mention leaving an electric toothbrush behind. I have spoken to our housekeeping staff and they have told me that they never found an electric toothbrush in your room.

We stayed during one of the busiest period for Irish hospitality (first Saint Patrick's in 2 years) and we had an amazing experience. The hotel is very beautiful, the original architecture of the building - which used to be Oscar Wilde's home - was preserved and the bespoke decoration suits the general atmosphere. Our breakfast was included and we got a full menu to chose from, every meal was freshly prepared and very tasty. The Caffee Vergano has a real Italian coffee machine. The staff was lovely and very professional. Our bedroom had a sea view even though we didn't pick the option while booking! The shower in the bathroom was probably one of the best shower we have seen whilst staying in a hotel. Overall, we are very impressed with the value and quality of our stay, we can't wait to come back already.

My sister and her partner booked their sons Communion in this Venue. They went and viewed the property with a member of staff and agreed on an area and price for a Communion and booked for food for the party also.
They organised decorations to arrive on the day and when the balloon lady arrived she was told her Stand Alone Decorations were not allowed on the premises and to remove them. Why advertise that you take all sorts of parties and not allow any decorations! The Manager also told the Balloon lady to put away The Sweet Table my Brother In Law set up that morning so when they arrived with the children the sweet treats were no where to be seen! This was basically a few jars of sweets and packets of crisps etc - nothing that would damage a table! They had to pay an extra €100 cash to have the sweets set out on the table which is just a money scam in my opinion!! extra cash straight into his pocket!! Not once when taking the booking did they advise my sister she wasnt allowed have balloons or jars of sweets on the tables!! This is a basic standard for anyone throwing a party! they werent gluing banners to walls these decorations wouldnt have affected the property in any way. The manager phoned my sister and verbally abused her down the phone telling her to remove everything out of the premises or he’ll do it for her in an aggresive manner! Shouting at customers is rude and disgusting i dont understand how he is allowed to deal with clients at all with how he handles things!
The Arrogant Manager told them that he didnt care about the €350 they paid he “wouldnt piss on 350 euro” and to “take their money and leave” his words not mine!!! Absolutely disgusting language to use towards a customer who booked and invited guests to this venue.
Unable to take the children and guests anywhere else we were forced to stay in this venue feeling awkward and unwanted on what should have been a very special day!! The manager proceeded to abuse anyone walking in and out of the party questioning where they were going. The children were sitting infront of the tv watching the football and the manager turned the tv off on them and said the children shouldnt have been allowed in the venue around alcohol yet they have a BILLBOARD sized sign outside on the side if the building advertising that they cater for Communions, Christenings and other events!
My sister is heavily pregnant, due her baby in a matter of days and was verbally abused by the manager to the extent that she was so upset and stressed she was crying. Treating a lady in her condition like this is absolutely disgusting he should be ashamed of himself!!! He ruined the day for everyone after treating customers so horribly. Avoid this venue they dont deserve anyones business after how this so called Manager treated the many guests that were at the party yesterday.
He was also witnessed chasing a couple down the road shouting at them outside accusing them of not paying their bill which is defamation and embarrassing for anyone to have to experience of a busy sea front. these people werent part of our party but its just another example of how horrendous this manager is and why he does not deserve anyones business!!

The Location is excellent with beautiful views & the hotel is oozing with decor and history. Nice blinds and thick curtains to block out the light and sounds! The bathroom could do with a hook behind the doors and wall to hang your wash-bag, clothes, etc, otherwise there's nowhere to hang anything!
Unfortunately it has been taken over by new management recently and this is where the positive review ends. The website claimed all rooms were unavailable yet when I checked by phone I was able to book and pay for a family room immediately. (Informed room prices change according to demand and the website price is not correct?)
I was told an email confirmation of booking would be coming shortly.
It never did.
They don't respond to the email address on the website. I have tried 3 times.
When we arrived there was confusion, we were checked into a double room instead and found some bags in the cupboard that belonged to someone else. This guest had already checked into the double room earlier and gone out. She was very upset and annoyed to found she had been kicked out when she returned that evening and we felt quite rude to have taken her room although not our fault.
She was then given the Family Room that we should have had; making myself, the wife and baby try to fit into tiny room and bed!
The next day we were given the Family Room at last.
There was no gluten free breakfast available - a bag of crisps was offered!!!
It has taken exactly one whole week to get a correct invoice for the dates we stayed for my business expenses. Continually explaining either by email or numerous phone calls when we stayed over and over, it beggars belief. At one stage we were even asked for the reference number on the confirmation email...
Despite having my email address my name has not once been spelled correctly. At this point I find this lack of attention just rude.
I would avoid this place like the plague. The whole management haven't a clue how to run a hotel which is a shame because the hotel is excellent.

I stayed here for the first time last weekend for a special occasion and have very mixed feelings about the whole experience.
Our arrival and checkin was excellent the guys at reception were friendly and funny.
Our room was on the top floor overlooking the sea and although small it was quant and comfortable, exactly what I would expect from this type of establishment considering the age of the property and its history.
Unfortunately our dining experience was not so memorable. We had a table booked for 7pm outdoors as we were meeting family. When we arrived a little late 7.15pm we we told that there would now be a wait to get seated as all tables were occupied. I didnt really mind at that stage however by 8pm I was quite annoyed as we still hadnt been seated. I could see that the place was in chaos, no one was in charge and tables were being given to people coming off the street, waiters were not communicating and were clearly stressed. Fortunately a gentleman who was now waiting over 50 mins for drinks and was seated outside came in and demanded to see the manager. Luckily for us the manager arrived and things began to change slowly. We got seated just after 8pm but was after 9pm when we got pizza. Drinks took about 20 mins. I wont even go into what was presented as an indian dish. Pizzas were gorgeous though. The waiters were in no way to blame for this fiasco as it was clear they were just inexperienced and had no guidance. Management was totally at fault for the whole night.
When I retired to indoors there was a lovely night porter who served us some drinks and he was brilliant so a shout out to Chris who made what was a really bad start to the evening a very enjoyable one by the end.
I can only assume that as the place has only opened a short while that they are just trying to find their feet and hopefully the service will improve.

Dear Guest We are happy to read that overall you had a pleasant stay. You state in your review that your booking was for 7pm yet you arrived 15 minutes later at 7.15. We allow a ten minute waiting period for tables and if there is a no show, the table is given to next customer that is waiting. As I am sure you can understand, especially during busy periods, we cannot leave table open for more than 15 minutes as it's a huge loss of business for us. We apologies for the delay with the service. We have new staff training who are still trying to learn our table map and till system. We hope to have our service significantly improved in the coming days.

We've stayed here a couple of times and use it as a base for getting into Dublin, especially when there's concerts or games in the city and the hotel prices are extortionate there. Driving to the Strand is easy and parking is a little limited and you have to pay €10 to a meter. I might be wrong, but I thought its private parking if it's off street but maybe it's a deterrent to folks using the hotel spots.
The hotel is like a converted old seaside house... lovely old decor, high ceiling, creaking staircases etc. Full of character. Check in was easy and friendly, we stayed in room 3 which was up a flight of stairs and was comfy with a nice view out the window of the sea and promenade.
We had breakfast on the previous visit in the cafe that's part of the hotel... couldn't fault it, friendly, quick and tasted good
Downstairs below the reception is a nice bar, it's been lively the times we've been there with the barman very knowledgeable on local beers and very friendly.
If you like old style accommodation then this is a great place to check out!

I stayed here for work and had such a warm welcome from the lovely staff.
All staff were very accomadating and genuine lovely people.
I had a problem with a bit of noise from another room but the staff moved me to another room and the lovely lady who cleaned my room packed all of my things for me and put them into my new room.
The only negative is they could cater more for vegans and people with allergies in the restaurant but lovely rooms, views and staff.
Thank-you and congratulations to The Strand!

We had a small room but it had everything we needed. Lovely breakfast, cozy pub, everything was nice and clean and there was a good balance between porfessionalism and familiarity. Easy acces to the motorway if you have a car and the station and beautiful hiking trails are close by.

My son and his girlfriend booked a table here for his 19th birthday. When they arrived the manager told them there was no table available. They said that they had cancelled the booking in the afternoon and had sent them a text. They never received a text but did receive an email 3 hours after the time of the booking (booking was at 7pm, received email at 10pm) to say that the booking had been cancelled by them. So be warned, no point in booking this restaurant as you cannot be sure it will be honoured. Completely spoilt his birthday.

Currently the rooms are under rennovation, hoping to have them open early next year. The bar is still open for business, so be sure to pop in for a drink or a bite to eat.
