Detailed Reviews
Stayed at The Royal Hotel for one night. Parking is available for €5 per night, which is a reasonable charge. Check in went ok and we where allocated a large family room which had 2 bedrooms, one with a double and single the other had 2 singles. Which was great to have so much space. The rooms are quite dated and could do with a deep clean. We moved the single beds and found lots of dust under the beds. I also found some stray hairs on the toilet seat! Taps in the bathroom very loud and couldn’t get hot water some of the time. Paid €40 for breakfast and felt it wasn’t worth it, poor selection of hot food, no mushrooms, potato bread. The beds are comfortable but I was glad it was only for one night. Pool is a great addition and was one of the main reasons I booked the hotel.

We had a great weekend at the Royal Hotel in Bray, the location in the town is perfect and the rooms are very comfortable. My wife is a Coeliac and we really enjoyed the evening meal, unfortunately she needed to purchase her own sausages and pudding for breakfast from the Bray Super Value close to the hotel as we knew from previous that they would not be provided by hotel.I was informed by the reservation rep by email that" Our chef will be more than happy to assist your wife in having it prepared for her when she gets her own sausage and pudding. I understand you were mentioned the same matter on your previous stay, in order to be more pre cautious it would be good to know information for the service team on your check in"Great hotel but this is one way for them to improve their service by providing more gluten free hot food options for breakfast.

We booked our stay through escapes.ie which was good value. I called the hotel the day before our arrival & asked if they would be able to store a bike for us during our stay which they said was no problem. When we arrived the receptionist said they could not store anything due to covid-19 restrictions which is understanable however we should have been told this when we called. We then has to hall the bike up the stairs to the tiny bedroom which was already claustrophobic. We ate in mcgettigans on our first night as we had a 20 euro voucher. The waitress on duty was rude & got our drink requests wrong on a number of occasions. At one point another member of staff said to her 'There is someone waiting at the door for a seat', to this she grunted 'For god sake' and rolled her eyes. I have been to mcgettigans in other hotels which were fabulous but this was awful from start to finish. The beer was stale & service was slow. The staff in the restaurant for breakfast kept forgetting about us and we had to remind them about our order multiple times during the two times we were there.Service was so slow, food was only mediocre & On the second morning we had to remind the waiter 3 times about soda bread we had asked for, after approx 40 minutes he came out with a small plate with four bits of bread that you wouldn't feed to the birds. The central location is the only thing that saved the trip, would to return. Please provide some customer service training to your employees.

myself and my partner were in Bray for work and as a wheelchair user, my employers had checked out the local hotels for access. They'd been impressed with The Royal and it was close to where we'd be working but... if you're a wheelchair user, your access to the hotel and it's facilities is severely limited and the staff attitude is on the whole incredibly unhelpful. The lift is not very deep so you have to go in and turn and hope you fit in sideways or at an angle. I'm relatively small so was okay but you might want to check the dimensions if you really were to stay here. The accessible room itself had a large roll in shower, was fairly large but no drawers (just one for the bible and hairdryer) and if you're seated, you couldn't reach the coathangers in the wardrobe. On the first morning we went for the breakfast included in our package. We were shown to our table and the server told me the breakfast was buffet style down the steps unfortunately. She at no time offered to help or find a solution to this so we just left and went to a local cafe instead. After work, when we returned to the hotel, we found the accessible entrance locked. The inaccessible main entrance was just a few metres along and was open but upstairs. There was no buzzer i could press and no apparent camera to enable the reception staff to see me and open the door for me. if i was on my own, i'd have to sit at the bottom of the stairs and wait for someone to come and open my accessible door. That door should have been kept open but we were told that the children and the drunks etc would come in. well then they'd surely also come in the main entrance too? they could have the door locked but give residents a key and they could have had a camera or a buzzer but no, just an unwelcoming locked door. Whenever we were in the hotel, one particular manager was obsessed with whether we were going out again so that he could lock the door. The door seemed to be an emergency exit and as it was the only one accessible, to know it's locked after you and you can't access it yourself did not leave us to rest easy. The next day, we couldn't have the breakfast for lack of access and help so we went out early to a cafe, continued to work and on our return that night, the accessible door to the hotel was locked. My partner went to tell them at reception and a very sullen young man traipsed to open it and when we told him it wasn't acceptable for it to be locked he said it wasn't an emergency exit so it was fine to be locked and shut. He was so unhelpful. So, if, like me, you want to be able to independently get in and out of a hotel, have access to the breakfast and enjoy facilities like the games room - the accessible entrance to there was locked but the regular one was open - then don't stay here. You're made to feel like a second class citizen and the staff are as much a part of the problem as the poor access.

this is not a 3 star hotel and the room we stayed in was nothing like the pictures shown on the hotel website. room was old and run down with single glaze windows. ( could hear all the traffic passing by even what they played on the radio). very disappointing. rooms were like something from the 90's.
Bathroom was very basic with a small shower head over a bath. (again nothing like the pictures) I found this very misleading and left me with a bad feeling from the get go) no wifi available to guests. no hair dryer available in the room. very bad parking set-up.
myself and my partner got no sleep at all this was mainly due to the poor quality of the room and structure. we were awoken at 12am by a family screaming kids running around banging doors etc. we were awoken again by our other noisy neighbours who had a full on room party from 3am till 6.30am. DISGRACEFUL.
we had to cut our staycation short as by 2pm in the day we had to leave bray as we were too tired and had a 2 hour drive ahead of us.
the meal we received in the restaurant was poor and very expensive for what we got. again very disappointing. Not suitable for vegetarians. nothing compared to what we got in the Martello which was amazing.
Will not be recommending to anyone. Very disappointing staycation and set up of a hotel.
The staff are so nice and lovely. The restaurant staff we encountered were so so nice its such a shame.

We arrived thinking this looks ok the bar area was revamped so looked better than previous years but sadly that was the only positive thing about the hotel.
The breakfast is pretty awful with the staff quiet unfriendly except a guy who seemed to be the manager was friendly the other staff look and act like your annoying them.
The room smelled very musty no air the carpets were dirty so down for a swim and the showers are closed ok so we head for the room for a shower to discover there was no hot water and while running the shower the bath blocked .
We tried the bar food one night not great and over priced again no atmosphere in the bar and a waitress who is thriving on pushing food on you and asking you to order as soon as you sit down.
The only nice part of our trip was the pool but sadly we smelled of chlorine as no showers working..
It seems to me like this hotel needs serious attention on every detail because sadly when people don’t have to take staycations anymore they certainly won’t put up with this nonsense for the prices they charged.
Faulty towers avoid..

Stayed here for two nights over the weekend. The receptionist at check in was very helpful and friendly although there was a delay she was very professional and apologetic. I cannot remember her name but I do believe she was in training at the time. The room was small with a view to outside walls of the hotel which were not painted and looked like a run down building, it was dirty so we had to keep the curtains closed as it was not a nice sight. Many doors and steps to get to our room with narrow corridors. The radiators on our floor banged all evening with no sign of anyone coming to fix them. The breakfast was cold on both mornings, the food was not great, we had to search through a stack of plates at the buffet to find a clean one and had to ask multiple times for tea. We were never checked on at any stage during any meals throughout our stay. During the second night I was woken by the radiator in my room banging and shaking causing serious noise and keeping me awake for over an hour only to stop for 15 minutes and to resume again. There was a lot of noise in the corridors at night. On check out the receptionist was rude and uninterested and I was snapped at by a second receptionist when I tried to make my complaint. They were both very unprofessional. When charging us another €60 for a room supplement charge, she could not even explain what it was when I questioned it and I still don’t know what I was paying for. We left very unhappy and were never offered to speak to a manager when we reported our complaints upon check out. We were very disappointed as we spent a lot of money to stay the weekend and were not impressed at all. We will definitely not be returning or recommending to anyone.

We had our badly needed staycation in The Royal hotel just last week and couldn't praise it enough. despite all the necessary covid restrictions, ie booking breakfast, pool and dinner we really enjoyed our stay and all the staff made it easy to forget the challenges of staying in a hotel during this time. Breakfast was served very efficiently and the satff serving were friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and we have to give particular mention to Lucy and Lauren who were a both a ray of sunshine - so bubbly but professional and couldnt do enough for us. Jan (forgive my spelling if incorrect) at reception was also very good. The only issue was the heat of the room - even though we left the windows open at all times it was still quite warm but it certainly didnt detract from the enjoyment of our stay. We felt very safe with all staff wearing masks/visors and numerous hand sanitising stations throughout the hotel. Well done Royal Hotel, thanks for a lovely stay!

No hair dryer in room. Had to go out and buy one. Towels and coffee making facilities were not put in room on second night of our stay. No toilet paper in bathroom.on second night of stay. We were early for checking in we had to wIaitan hour at reception we didn't mind too much. What I did mind tho was that I went to use the toilet and only residents could use them. You had to use your room key to get into the toilets. The staff knew that we were residents and never offered to open the toilet door for us. I was so dispointed in our stay at ti's hotel. We also had to pay 50 depsoid when checking in which was refundable on checkout. The man on reception told me that I owed 42 euro for a meal that we had the evening before. I explained to him that the meal was part of a package that we had booked. After a while he understood what we meant and I was refunded my 50 back.
Food in Mc Gettigans bar is good and staff are friendly.

Reception staff are lovely, we were given a room in the 4th floor which was very outdated & dreary when asked to move rooms there was no issue. The rooms on the first floor are renovated and very nice. Breakfast was ok, seems to be a lot of new younger staff who could do with some more training. Dinner was amazing we had the prawns for starters & linguini pasta for mains which was exceptional. The swimming pool makes the hotel , there were no wet kit bags in the changing rooms when asking staff for a plastic bag I was told they didn’t have any. There was no hair dryer in the room I had to ring reception twice for a hair dryer when one was brought up I plugged it in and it exploded. Unfortunately no one went out of their way to go above and beyond at any point which was disappointing for the duration of our stay. I would return only because of the exceptional dinner & leisure facilities.

Dear Martin,
Thank you for your message.
Due to Health & Safety reasons, it is mandatory to wear swimming caps while using the pool.
You can get your own caps or purchase them at the leisure center.
