After being in boring Birr, lively Athlone was a wonderful surprise. The b&b has a great location and is wonderfully decorated. I loved the breakfast and felt very much at home. Could recommend it to everyone!

We had a lovely time in this B&B. We had the spacious loft room. This B&B had a real character to it - with a funky decor and located in the centre of Athlone, a block from Sean's Bar - purportedly the oldest pub in Europe. The hosts were really nice and helpful, giving us great advice for our travels...

Lovely old place in a great location next to Sean's Bar. Rooms very unique and clean. Stayed in top room with double and single. Only thing is the single bed room was very bright at night due to the b and b being right next to a set of street lights. More blinds are required. Other than that a great...

Found this B&B by accident (recommended by local pub owner). Just up the street from shopping, restaurants and sights. Very clean, quaint, and friendly helpful hosts. The B&B is in an older building--lots of stairs, probably not easy for anyone with mobility issues, but well worth the effort. Rooms are spacious and charming. Althone in general is a great city--lots...

Just spent 3 nights with family group, in the Bastion. Very happy with the whole weekend, nice quirky B&B, and very chilled atmosphere. People commented on the breakfast in other reviews, but found a light breakfast was good for us, as we had been eating out all weekend, and would have found a cooked breakfast too much. Found the location...

I loved this B&B. The owners were very friendly but not too in your face. In the morning the one guy gave up his own coffee press to me so I could have some right away. The house itself was funky and inviting. I kind of want to decorate my own home to match. Great location in the city and...

Stopped in Athlone with my husband and another married couple. This is in a great location. We really love the side of the river we were on. Very charming and intimate feeling as opposed to the other side of the river which seems more modern. We're glad we stayed here. Great restaurants nearby. Wonderful hosts. Our room was fantastic. They...

This bed and breakfast is a priceless gem! We had a warm welcome from our hosts(brothers) and our room was faultless. Unique, eclectic, homey decor. One feels comfortable as soon as you walk in. There is a large sitting area in the breakfast/kitchen room and you are welcome to "be at home" and make what you need when you need...

It was ok, I expected more given the reviews, good location, no hot breakfast, tiny rooms.

My husband and I stayed at the Bastion for one night in mid-May. We were greeted by Anthony, who was very kind and gave us a tour of the B&B and a great recommendation for lunch (Left Bank Cafe, it's fantastic). The Bastion is wonderfully decorated with all sorts of mementos from travels, antiques, books, and great art mixed together...

“Book in advance to get the larger upstairs loft room which is converted from an old dorm for young tradesman apprentices. A phone call ahead of time will give you all the information that you need. The whole inn is a series of old wood staircases leading to rooms here and there and off to the sides--all decorated with interest and comfort in mind. Our large room was remarkable for the fact that it could easily slept four to six people, and the huge beds were so comfortable that it was hard to roll out and start the day. Also, the tiny balcony offered a fine view of the trees that had just begun their fall color. If you plan to start in Dublin and move toward the West Coast, this is exactly mid-point, and many scenic and historic places are nearby as well.”
