Myself and 2 friends stayed here last night, yes it's clean, cosy and comfortable. Being told at 9p.m.in the eve when we were getting ready to go out ( 3 ladies) that he would have to ask us to leave if we didn't keep the noise down!! If you are staying here please take a vow of silence upon entering!!!!

My wife ,daughter and myself stayed here for one night. It is such a gem in Athlone. Hard to describe. Magical, quaint, unique, full of history, so just visit there. The owners are such gentlemen, and you are made feel a member of their family. The establishment is one of the oldest buildings in Athlone but offers top class accommodation.

The owner couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, and he lugged one of our suitcases up the narrow staircases himself. We stayed in the loft room which was quirky, very clean and very comfortable. The Bastion cafe opposite offered great breakfasts and coffee and was also very friendly. There's no TV (a least I can't remember one) and the...

Wonderful place with amazing location. We stayed in the loft and were super comfy. Super clean. Great host. Couldn't have asked for a better start to our Ireland b&b tour. Some people have commented on the stairs...wasn't a big issue as our host helped with bags so don't let that put you off. And whilst it doesn't have breakfast these...

Stayed in the Studio in the Bastion on top of the Bastion Kitchen. Pleasantly surprised is an understatement. We called the host vinny when we arrived and he poped out with the keys and showed us around. The studio was quiet big and the decor was fab, gave a real laid back vibe to the place. Oh it was also...

Right in the heart of old Athlone is a quaint B&B, Bastion. What makes it even more interesting is, it is owned & ran by two fellows who were raised in the house along with 6 other siblings. It is an old house with plenty of narrow stairways but it is all part of its charm. I love that it...

Antony was a lovely host. Clean comfy room. Lots of narrow staircases (if that's an issue you may be able to get one of the lower level rooms), but very cozy, reasonable price and within 2 blocks of pubs such as Sean's- the oldest pub in Ireland, lots of restaurants, and the castle.

Stayed here overnight for a wedding celebration and loved the place from the get go. Comfortable, clean and beautifully styled rooms…interesting decor with ramshackle charm from well-travelled owners with a very eclectic and inspiring aesthetic. A great find and great location…the cafe across the street also excellent and didn't mind hosting a post wedding group of brunchers not in a...

“Book in advance to get the larger upstairs loft room which is converted from an old dorm for young tradesman apprentices. A phone call ahead of time will give you all the information that you need. The whole inn is a series of old wood staircases leading to rooms here and there and off to the sides--all decorated with interest and comfort in mind. Our large room was remarkable for the fact that it could easily slept four to six people, and the huge beds were so comfortable that it was hard to roll out and start the day. Also, the tiny balcony offered a fine view of the trees that had just begun their fall color. If you plan to start in Dublin and move toward the West Coast, this is exactly mid-point, and many scenic and historic places are nearby as well.”
