Travellers' Choice
Ross Lake House Hotel in Galway is a splendid 19th Century Georgian House. Built in 1850, this charming Galway hotel is formerly an estate house of the landed gentry, who prized it for its serenity. Set amidst rambling woods and rolling lawns, it is truly a haven of peace and tranquillity.

Faked by stunning photos and overweighted good reviews, I paid more than 300 euros for 2 nights. What I got was an unpleasant smelly old house! The room was a completely different room from the photo provided!! With broken wall paint... No heating! In the morning the dawn spores make the windows sweat like a pig! ( imagine how cold and humid it is) 1 bottle of 300ml water for 2 persons 2 days! No kettle no tea or coffee in the room ( it’s what a 4 star hotel should be like??) The breakfast portion smaller than half all day breakfast. Dinner served only between 7-8pm. Hotel closes at 11pm. When it’s closed it’s closed. You don’t have spare key for enter. The house is empty, you won’t find any staffs to complain...

My wife and I stayed at Ross Lake House Hotel recently for five nights. We thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of our stay - the welcome, the accommodation, the food and the high level of service - and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone planning a country house hotel break in rural west of Ireland. As we were staying for five nights we decided to treat ourselves to a suite We had a comfortable well furnished sitting room with a flat screen TV and door leading out to the gardens. The bedroom was spacious with a king bed and more than ample wardrobe and drawer space. The bathroom was more than big enough with a shower over bath and two wash hand basins. The wifi signal in the suite was consistently good during our stay. Breakfast was cooked to order and offered us the choice we wanted. We had dinner in the hotel each evening and found the menu varied and based on local produce. The wine list had an adequate selection of wines - old and new world - and there was Guinness and lager on draft. We enjoyed every meal - well cooked dishes nicely presented and a professional yet friendly level of service. This is a small (13 rooms) country house hotel in a rural location 30 minutes drive from the city of Galway and ideally located for exploring Connemara and Clare . We were able during our stay to fit in trips to Galway, Clifden and Bunratty as well as exploring the beautiful Connemara countryside. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

I truly wish I could give this hotel more than 5 stars. My husband and I stayed at Ross Lake House for two nights in September 2019 and I was so, so sad that we couldn't stay longer. The location is several km outside of Galway city, so if you are looking for a place within walking distance, this would not be the right fit. Instead, it is a bit outside of town, tucked away in the woods in such a beautiful setting. The charm of this place is outstanding; we loved our room with its big four poster bed (and modern bathroom!), the sitting room with two fireplaces, and the library/bar area. We had dinner one night and it was worth every penny, such a special experience. Henry and Elaine make your stay even better with personal attention and recommendations. My only hope is I can travel to Galway again in the future and stay here (for longer than two nights!). Treat yourself to this wonderful, unique property.

This is truly the Ireland we wanted to experience, with fantastic hosts, great accommodations, attentive staff, and an intimate setting. The house, or manor home is snug, cozy, and is placed back away from everything, so that you feel like you’ve left time behind. The food and dining experience is top notch, and make sure you spend you time before bed, in their little bar, sipping an Irish coffee (which is probably the best you’ll ever have), or a perfectly pulled pint. By the way, finding your way to the house will probably make you believe your lost...just keep following the directions...it’s truly part of the charm!

You find this beautiful hotel nestling in peaceful atmospheric woodlands, just 10 minutes drive from Oughterard town, the gateway to Connemara.Everything about it makes for an enjoyable and relaxing stay, and the owners operate with admirable unoptrusive efficiency to cater for their guests. Cleanliness is at a premium, rooms are comfortable and well presented,an atmosphere of peace and relaxation abounds, food is cooked to order, wine excellent and breakfast superb. My daughter and I drove away from our one night stay, full of admiration and praise for this jewel in the Galway countryside.
