Thank you to Donal for a fantastic stay. The most comfortable bed and best breakfast of our trip. The location is amazing and Donal gave us so many top tips. We didn’t want to leave and will come back to fish!!

All the stars. Totally, I give them all the stars. What we wanted was a few slow days in the middle of a busy vacation to just relax and take in the beauty of Ireland, and boy howdy did we get it. From the start, our hosts were thinking about how to make our experience its best. We got a booking email advising us to make sure we had our dinner before we made the 11-km drive from the nearest town, and so we arrived fortified with pizzas we picked up along the way. Donal greeted us cheerfully despite the late hour (we had a long day, so we'd called to let him know we were arriving late, which I advise if you think you won't be there by 6 or so), got us some glasses for our drinks, and showed us to our comfy, spacious room. We watched the midsummer sky out the large picture window in the common room, and slept comfortably thanks to the blackout shades (which protected us from the sunrise at something like 4am). The breakfasts were amazingly good, probably the best poached eggs I've had in years, in the sunny breakfast room complete with bird feeder outside the picture window. We spent the first day hiking and making a trip into town for snacks, and then on our second day Donal helped us map out a trip up through the gorgeous hills of Connemara, and the next day's trip through the Burren to the Cliffs of Moher. The rooms are comfortable and meticulously clean, and the location cannot be beat: quiet, beautiful, peaceful. There are lots of helpful little touches like the blackout shades that make a real difference. If you're staying here, a little planning ahead goes a long way: stop for some snacks and maybe a bottle of wine or whiskey to enjoy overlooking the lake. Bring your camera or binoculars because the birdwatching is great, and it's about a 2km walk to the Western Way trailhead. Their jetty is a lovely place to watch the sunset from the lake shore. This stay was really a highlight of our vacation!

My husband Peter and I stayed at Nonaim lodge this May 2018 and had three magical days on Lough Corrib learning about dapping. We both love to fish and do so as much as we can typically in a large boat. Fishing with Donal is a real joy. Every morning we had a wonderful full Irish breakfast, and wandered down the rolling hill to the jetty were Donal was gearing up the boat listening to the radio. We both put our wellies and gear on and off we went. The sway of the boat, the spray of the water and the silence and beauty of the mountains surrounding us. When you love something it isn’t like work and I imagine Donal must feel that every day because we certainly felt like we had hit the lottery in terms of a guide. It sure is nice to meet someone who gets as much joy as we do just being in the moment doing something you love. The Mayfly hatch on that little island and watching the Mayfly dance on the water and the trout take the bait was really something to remember. We cannot thank you enough for your hospitality, for the beautiful lodge and for your kindness. I do hope we get to fish together again. Ivy & Peter

Nonaim Lodge's two main strengths are definitely two of the things all us explorers look for - Location & Hospitality. At the edge of Lough Corrib, towards the end of a long, winding road from the pretty village of Oughterard, this is a place where you are securely nestled in peace and greenery. Far enough away to be otherworldly, but a close enough drive to have your evening meal in the nice pubs of Oughterard. Furthermore, it's around 40 minutes from the centre of Galway in one direction, and the centre of Connemara in the other. Perfect. Connie & Dónal are very welcoming, very accommodating and very laid back as hosts at Nonaim. They keep their place very clean and put on a great morning spread. I'd recommend this place as a great base to drive to and from the splendid sights of Galway.

My family and I stayed at The lodge last week and we had a lovely stay. We only stayed one night but after having a long day out it was lovely to go to a room that was so comfortable. The room consisted of two double beds that were extremely comfortable, tv, tea and coffee making facilities and also a nice shower in the bathroom. The owner was lovely and provided a lovely breakfast in the morning. The lodge has beautiful views across the lake. This lodge is highly recommended. Our two sons of 11 and 15 loved it.
