Sherkin is a lovely place to explore a quiet West Cork island in Roaringwater Bay, just across the water from Baltimore. There's a very regular ferry service (approx. every 2.5 hours) and although once a thriving island community there are now only about a 100 inhabitants. The Silver Strand looking out on Cape Clear and the Gascanane Sound is a...

My mother & I had a truly special time staying with Fiona (Joe was away). From the free range chickens wandering in the vegetable garden & around our feet on arrival to the welcoming cup of tea with homebaked treats while watching the sea in Horseshoe Bay within the first 30 minutes of our arrival, we were made to feel...

I had such a great time staying with Joe and Fiona. Spent three nights on Sherkin and they made me feel truly welcome, like one in the family. The location is great, breakfast excellent, Fiona may cook for you in the evening if you ask (maybe fish that has been freshly caught by Joe - if not visit the pub...

Horseshoe cottage is one of the best-kept secrets in West Cork: a beautiful, historic cottage overlooking the blue waters of Horseshoe Harbour - just a short walk from the pier. Joe and Fiona offer the best of Irish hospitality, including wonderful home-baked treats and tea on arrival, and a fine full irish breakfast (early or late, depending on mood). We...

This was the best part of my trip to Ireland. I was looking for an alternate to the typical hotel and this suited me perfeclty. This is not a hotel at all. This is someone's private home who graciously open it up to everyone. Joe and Fiona went above and beyond to make sure my stay was comfortable. The room...

Sherkin Island is a truly beautiful location. So we were pleased to be able to stay on the island as part of our summer holidays in Ireland. The location is great, overlooking a very picturesque bay, where the owners impressive looking sail boat is docked. It was, however, a very muddy walk up the dirt track to the house in...

Having travelled all around Ireland in the past, we had yet to explore much of the south coast, and in particular the islands along the south coast. We have made it a habit while traveling in Ireland, and the rest of Europe as well, to always try and stay in apartments or B&B's. Horseshoe Cottage seemed to the opportunity to...

Showed up at 4:30. Was informed we had been double booked so the owner was giving us her room which wasn't ready. Dropped off the bags & headed off to explore the island. Cottage in a lovely location but unfortunately we had a very poor sleep. Room was stuffy, the window was very small so when opened it really didn't...
