Detailed Reviews
Great location for an excursion to the Skellig Islands and for exploring avalentia Island. Skellig trips leave from Portmagee just across the bridge. The hostess is delightful, our room was spacious, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The included breakfast, while not hot, was just fine (yogurt, cereal, fruit and juice). Highly recommended.

Stunning views just a stones throw from Portmagee for the Skellig Michael Tours. Frances is a kind and gracious host. Room was great. Breakfast was lovely. My only regret is not staying another night. Definitely add this to your Ireland itinerary!

We booked at the very last time and it was the only B&B left. Don't know why because we got the cottage for two nights and it was just perfect. Large living room with an open kitchen and a huge window facing the channel and two bedrooms and a bathroom on the second floor. Beautiful view on Portmagee, we went there every night walking across the bridge for a wonderful diner at the pub. The hostess got us a round trip to the Skellig with a simple phone call on the biggest and newest boat which is important cause it takes 2h30 and you need to feel safe.

I booked for 2 people approximately 2 weeks before and spoke to Francis on the phone 15th/16th July. I gave her my credit card number. When we arrived she had cancelled. We started our holiday in Killarney on the 11th she said she has phoned twice to confirm but got no answer. (Booked it on landline phone as signal not good on mobile from where we live) She said she had a couple the weekend before that let her down, but I said this was not my problem. I thought that when I had given her my credit card no. that would secure my booking. Very disappointed.

Firstly, I had to postpone my booking from the original dates to the week later, which I decided in the last minute because of the bad weather on the original dates. This was very nicely handled by Frances. She called up Booking.com to make sure I wasn`t charged for last minute change. I was very very impressed with this.
I stayed on 12 July` 14 weekend and I am writing this review almost 2 weeks later and I still can’t forget the exceptional treatment we got.
Exceptional hospitality. A wonderful (and beautiful) and friendly host. Rooms 5/5, Hospitality 5/5, breakfast I wish I could give more than 5/5.
Thanks very much Frances for being such a nice host , taking care of my kid while we had our breakfast, for the paracetamol and lastly for making our stay pleasant.

You cannot go wrong here! Breathtaking views, great location...we walked across the bridge to Port Magee. Bedroom & bath were spacious & clean, plenty of hot water & great pressure. Owners are the nicest people. Frances even gave me a jacket to wear one day! Also, the coffee was the best I tasted in Ireland. Would highly recommend.

I stayed two nights in Carraig Liath House. The room I stayed in (turquise room) was very comfortable with great scenic views of Portmagee and the Skellig islands beyond. The room was really comfortable and spacious. Frances was an excelllent host - very welcoming, friendly and informative. Breakfast was fantastic - great full Irish breakfasts!
Carraig Liath is situated in an exccellent location - next to the Skellig Experience centre by Portmagee bridge. It's perfect for those wishing to take a day tour to the Skellig Islands by boat (which i did- excellent day trip)
Carraig Liath House is also a great base for any photographer wishing to explore Valentia Island, Portmagee, Caherciveen, Finan's Bay & Ballinskelligs. Perfect location to see all that part of County Kerry. If I'm down in that part of Kerry again I would definitely stay in Carraig Liath House again. Thanks for the wonderful hospitality Frances!

I just got back from a stay at the Carraig Liath House. If you're on Valentia Island, I absolutely recommend you stay here. The house is in an ideal location - first house over the bridge from Portmagee, and the host, Frances is wonderful. I travelled in a group of 8; 4 in the main house and 4 in the extra accommodation on the side of the house, which had it's own kitchen and living room. There is even a swing set on the side of the house for the kids. PS - Breakfast was fantastic

We stayed in this beautiful b&b for 4 nights. The room was very neat with gorgeous decor and had everything you could possibly need ie tv, kettle, plenty of tea and coffee, soaps and loads of fresh towels. Our hostess Frances was very welcoming and makes the tastiest breakfasts with the freshest ingredients. The view from the front of the house is nothing short of amazing. We didn't want to leave and are looking forward to staying there again

Wonderful location overlooking Portmagee, with fantastic scenery all around.
The room was comfortable and well kept, with all the necessary amenities. The breakfast was without doubt the best I have had whilst away.
Frances couldn't have been nicer, she was very welcoming and hospitable and offered good advice on local interests. She made our stay a great experience, and I cannot recommend this place highly enough.
