Detailed Reviews
I got a private single room at this place, en suite. It was the only place open during the Puck Fair and now I know why. The lady wanted all nights paid ahead of time else I would have left.
The toilet in the bathroom was broken and leaking all over floor. The lady just put some towels down to soak it up, but they were over-saturated. When I mentioned it she acted put out and tossed another towel on top of the ones that were already soaked and called it good. So every time I went into the bathroom, I had to go on my toes or my pants would get wet.
The entire room was damp and musty from the moisture. Even clothes in my suitcase would get damp over night from being in there. The curtains looked like they had never been washed. I could visibly see the chunks of built up dust on them...they were gritty and musty. There was black mold on the shower curtain and on the shower tiles. Even the window latches had black grime all over them.
Spiders all over. Cobwebs in the corners and sink. The first night I came in after dark. When I turned on the table lamp there were little flies everywhere and some spiders..then my eyes moved upward to the ceiling. It was like looking at a kicked ant nest. The whole ceiling was crawling with bugs! I'm guessing the water in the bathroom provided a good breeding ground. My last morning I actually saw a slug in on the bathroom door.
The bed was also musty, the floor was dirty. I had to wear flip-flops in the room and in the shower.
Also, no visitors after 8pm..in the summer..during the Puck Fair. :/
The kitchen has propane stoves which is fine, but hers are old and broken. The flames don't come out where they are supposed to and instead come out in random spots underneath the burner plate. There is probably also a leak somewhere. The windows and doors to the outside were always open in the kitchen, but it always reeked of propane. The fridge stank as well, like they never clean it out when people forget food.
The location is also a bit convenient...someone referred to it as the "Irish mile" meaning it is further out than advertised. I checked on google. To get to the nearest anything (town, groceries, etc) you will have a 4.6km round trip walk. Not terrible, but good to know if you're on foot and trying to take luggage to the nearest bus stop which is in town. Or if it is raining.
One observation I made is that out front she has a big sign claiming to be part of the Independent Hostels group, but none of her paperwork inside is newer than 2009. A local told me she was kicked out due to conditions at the hostel.
Overall, nothing was clean. The room was so bad that I spend every night getting up and down to blow my nose or do my inhaler since the damp irritated my asthma. After being financially tied to the place for 3 nights I left with a nasty sinus infection and very little sleep. The woman who owns it clearly isn't interested in actually operating a hostel beyond collecting the money for rooms. It was terrible! And ladies...there is a guy working there that is a bit creepy...just a little overly friendly, doesn't believe in personal space.
If you happen to be in this town for Puck Fair and can't find rooms elsewhere...just go buy a cheap tent. There are places around that allow camping during Puck.

This place is a rotton, shocking, run, down house. Please don't stay here. I would rather stay under a bridge than th ere. Everything is filt. We where there five mins And left. You think they would clean the house a bit. Dead flies under the quilt and a horrible toilet.

Mould on the sheets, sticking them to the floor. Lino in the 'on suite's bathroom that resembles the waves in an ocean. The bathroom door can't open all the way because of where the toilet is. The smell of mildew and decay everywhere. Been going for a few years to trade at Puck Fair. It gave me what I needed; a private room nearby. It's always been the least comfortable and least attractive place I've ever stayed but I put up with it because I thought the owner and I had become friends. There was something almost annual about bedding down three nights a year in a place that felt like it should be condemned. At least, (I thought) my business was appreciated and the owner was a friend. That changed this last trip. This is the first time I thought to look at the other reviews. The second fellow's right. Turns out she is a nasty little woman and I can't tell people enough to stay away. A tent by the road is more sanitary and comfortable. The reason it got a star is you have to put at least one to post it.

We had a room with a doublebed and a bunk bed.Traveling with a friend we always ask for twin rooms so this sould have been ok. But the bunk beds were in no condition to use. You could feel every plank und the very thin and old mattress.
The bathroom had a shower but it toke ages for hot water to come and everything was not very clean.
The kitchen as such was ok but also not very clean.

Do not stay here! Apart from the smell, filth and lack of safety they also rob you. I was staying here with a Spanish tourist and we both had our luggage robbed while we were outside. The only person around was the owner.
Health and safety must have been bribed because this place is a death trap and health hazard.

Me and my wife spent a night in this hostel as we could not find any cheap bnbs around. We were the only guests but 3 helpers/exchange students were helping on the house/hostel/farm. The owner was very nice to us. The kitchen was a bit run down but well equipped with a new gas stove and everything you would expect in a kitchen. We had a good night's sleep in a double bed after camping the night before. The bed was clean and smelled like it had been washed recently.
The "living room" had a comfy old sofa and 2 chairs. Also a TV but we did not use it.
The farm was a nice extra and we feed some chickens and has fresh eggs. Also a very friendly dog is around.
I guess the helpers tidied up the place since the last reviews posted here.
Overall it is an old house with old appliances and old furniture but OK for the price. I was in worse hostels for more money.
