Just back from a staff night in this hotel. Fabulous country cosy feel and a warm welcome from the staff. Brian the owner was so welcoming and great fun!!
Dying to go back and spend time in the hotel & grounds (and spa!)
The food was amazing, so tasty.

The building has the appearance of a castle but inside is more like a standard hotel.
The room was very nice and had a older looking appearance to make it look castle-like. Nice 4 post bed and a gas fireplace is the room.
It is nice short 5-10 minute walk to the main downtown ar

A little far to drive but it is beautiful. They offer complimentary tea and scones and also champagne before dinner. Dinner menu was basic. Breakfast fantastic. There are definitely more positive factors then negative. Parts of the hotel are tired but we expect that in a traditio

Would tours (Cliffs of Moher, etc) run from Galway or would there be some closer? What are the public transportation options to get to and from Galway? Are there bars and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel in Clifden?
The Cliffs of Moher are south of Galway nearer Shannon airport . Clifden is a town with lots shops pubs restaurants . Sky road is a must the most spectacular scenery . Make sure you meet Paul Hughes who in my opinion is the most decent hotel operator in Ireland . Enjoy the trip .

Hi American visitor, next time I suggest you stay at the Sheraton or the Radisson or some other American hotel, they are full of seeming cleanliness without any disgusting local features (like the smell of the peat fire in the Abbeyglen). Sincerely, a Canadian who enjoys difference.
I’m not sure if your comment was meant in response to my review of Abbeyglen Castle or perhaps someone else’s review. I happen to have loved my stay at Abbeyglen Castle. While I have on occasion stayed in American chain hotels, I have traveled extensively in Ireland over three decades and would chose Abbeyglen Castle or other similar Irish hotels every time.

How was the cleanliness of the room and sheets and overall hotel? I heard from someone who stayed there in 2013 that the sheets had stains on them and the rooms were very outdated.
That was not at all the case. We are pretty discriminating travelers, and we had no complaints whatsoever.
