The Holyrood Hotel stands out for its prime location, favored by guests eager to relax and explore nearby attractions. Opinions on value show a divide, with some guests commending the food and deals, while others point out unexpected charges and dining letdowns. The hotel's atmosphere, with live music and a family-friendly vibe, is generally well-received, though noise levels have been a concern for some.
Praise is consistent for the cleanliness of the well-maintained rooms and the array of amenities, including a spa and kids club. While the service is often described as professional and courteous, there have been isolated reports of less-than-stellar interactions.

Detailed Reviews
A warm welcome greeted us on arrival! Directions around the hotel were easy to follow…a very clear oneway system in place adhering to Covid Regulations .
We had a triple room - 2 double beds and a single . Very spacious , plenty of room to move around . Bathroom was clean and had great lighting. Only down fall was the shower was over the bath and it was a rainfall head , so it could not be lifted off to rinse body or if perhaps you just wanted to rinse your feet after returned from beach.
No tea/coffee making facilities in rooms due to covid regulations. Myself & friends ordered fresh tea on retirement to bed in the evening and also in the morning prior to Breakfast - no charges for this were applied on checking out!
We ate in the Hotel Bar on the first night, Surgion was our server and did an excellent job in re- sweeping under our table when he noticed some crumbs had been missed! Food was tasty, plentiful and very reasonable in price.
Dylan was our drinks waiter , very attentive and friendly…couldn’t do enough for us.
In our stay we had one evening meal free…so on our 2nd evening we had a meal in the Hotel Restaurant.
Once again staff were welcoming and most obliging when came to accommodating our various dietary requirements . The food was superb!
Will definitely return for another visit. Hotel is family run and suitable for families, couples and friend groups to stay at.
The Spa/ Treatment room was fully booked so unfortunately we weren’t able to avail of a massage or facial on this trip, maybe next time!
Many Thanks to all the Staff @ the Holyrood Hotel . We 6 ladies of rooms 238/ 239 had a fabulous weekend!

We arrived on the Friday afternoon to be given rooms 137 and 138 to which we were very surprised, they had a beautiful makeover from the last time we had stayed a few years back.
We spent the evening in the bar having some beautiful cocktails in a very good atmosphere which ended in a late night therefore missing breakfast.
We had our meal in the restaurant on the Saturday evening which was outstanding 4 clean plates....
Our server to which I can't remember her name was fantastic went over and above bring various beautiful homemade bread to us.
We did make breakfast to which again was fab.
The whole place was spotless !
The only negative was we left it to last minute to try and get booked into spa which would of been scattered appointments which didn't suit.
I would highly recommend and will definitely be back.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
After reading so many previous reviews I didn’t have high expectations for the hotel. But I have to say I really enjoyed my stay.
The hotel was clean and well maintained with staff cleaning touch points several times during the day. We arrived early and planned to go for a walk, but was impressed when we were told our room was ready for us in arrival.
The room was clean and tidy. The beds were a little harder than my own and I had to ask for extra pillows, but they arrived quickly without any issues. The decor is a little dated (not all the greys and muted tones that is popular now) but it was cozy and well maintained. I especially loved the upholstery on the chairs in the bar area.
Dinner and breakfast were included and I wasn’t disappointed. There was enough variety of the menus and you could add or take things away. Also good when you have kids(aged 2 and 4) who change their mind or ask for more. At dinner food came out quickly and hot. The kids meals where brought out very speedily which allowed me to relax and enjoy my meal knowing that the kids weren’t going to get bored and mess around while waiting for their food. The food was very nice (don’t go there expecting gourmet food) and on the night I had steak (medium) it was cooked perfectly.
On the last night we stayed in the lobby and the kids could play away with their friends who the met in the hotel pool. Although there was a kids club, you didn’t feel like the kids had to go there. They could play freely in the lobby and it wasn’t an issue for other guest or staff.
The only negative I can say (and I’m nitpicking) was I would have liked drawers to put clothes away in the bedroom. With a family of 4, it would make moving around the room easier if we could have stored the suitcases rather than having to pull them out all the time to get our clothes.
Overall very happy stay with the Holyrood and we would go back again.

This is what i sent to the hotel on Monday 06/01/2020 as a review
To say our stay was underwhelming and unsatisfactory would be an understatement. We had high expectations having read glowing reviews of your hotel, but upon arrival we were greeted with a number of issues.
We would like to prefix this but stating that we do not complain often, nor are we hard to please. We believe hotels should uphold basic standards of which you establishment failed to do.
This includes firstly, a hideously uncomfortable mattress in our room 160. Whilst I do not expect to sleep on a cloud, I do not expect to feel the sharp jagged edges of springs wedged into my back causing discomfort all night. A comprehensive look at either the quality, age, or manufacturing of the mattress would be strongly advised. Basic facilities that were also non satisfactory included no heating in the hotel room. I shouldn’t have to point out that it’s Winter and to be placed in a room with a non functional radiator is subpar beyond decency.
The toilets at the Waterfront bar which was relativity clean and tidy had a floor so slippery it would be considered a hazard to any one with the slightest balance issue. There was no wet floor signs. What is it mopped it? My partner compared it to an ice rink.
After sleeping on our uncomfortable mattress in a cold room, we were greeted with the wrapping of doors at 4-5am. This then was succeeded with the sound of a delivery coming into the back of a hotel awaking everyone from their jagged sleep. The level of noise was extremely annoying.
This was also topped off with a 30 minute queue at breakfast. Normally, a wait is expected but not at this length of time.
I’d appreciate your feedback on the above points, and would also like to provide positive feedback that the staff at the hotel were lovely and very courteous.
Kind regards,

Our family of six booked into this hotel and were of the understanding we'd be in a family sized room...we were put into a standard double room with three double beds squeezed into it and left us with very little space to move around. However, our main concern was the dining area and the bar area. None of your waiting staff were wearing face masks at all during the five days we stayed with you. The dining room was packed with guests at all times, despite us doing our best to pick times that would have less traffic. The tables were on top of each other and there was absolutely no effort made to maintain a 2 metre distance from other guests/diners.
The bar area in the evening was nothing short of a disgrace – the whole area packed with people who were extremely drunk and falling around and again no effort to maintain any of the Covid regulations.
Both myself and my husband are frontline workers who have worked continually throughout lockdown. We have been at high risk throughout most of the lockdown, but we were never as nervous or concerned as we were in your hotel. We decided to leave after a few hours last Sunday but our children were so upset at the thought of not getting a holiday that we stayed but spent the majority of our time away from the hotel or cramped in our room.
It is clear that management in your hotel are only concerned with making money and have no concern for the safety of your guests or your staff. I have emailed my concerns but no one has responded.

Dear Tara, further to your review of your recent stay with us. I am disappointed to read your comments. They are certainly not typical of the feedback we have received from the hundreds of families who have stayed with us this summer season. I am sorry that your family did not have a more enjoyable experience with us at The Holyrood Hotel. The room your were allocated for your family of six was indeed a family room and not a double as stated - 2 double beds plus a double sofa bed. This is the only room type we have suitable of accommodating a family of six, other wise two rooms would be required but this would incur added expense but on the plus side you would have more space. Failte Ireland issued guidelines to the hotel industry prior to our reopening on June 29th. We also receive regular updates from the Irish Hotels Federation which we adhere to. It was not a requirement at the time of your stay for hotel staff to wear face coverings. The guidelines also state that a distance of 1 meter is required between tables in a restaurant setting and not 2 meters. The Holyrood plays host to mostly families over the summer season who are attracted to our large family room, location, kids club and leisure center, it is not usual to see drunk people in the bar as you describe. We have made every effort to follow the guidelines set and as a family run business we take what we do very seriously. We did try to contact you by phone and email to discuss your experience but have yet to make contact with you. Sincerely, Audrey Mc Eniff

Our family stays at the Holyrood hotel every year and the staff always go above and beyond to accommodate our every need!!! I am happy to say that this holiday was no different 😊 Saranna and the girls at reception welcomed us so warmly as always, and although she is so busy she always takes the time to catch up with our little family when we visit, it's these little personal touches that sets the Holyrood Hotel aside from the rest! The hotel has adapted so well to the Covid guidelines, everywhere we went in the hotel housekeeping were constantly cleaning, and at our request our room was serviced everyday to such a high standard. We felt very safe whilst at the hotel due to social distancing practices put in place and wearing of masks whilst moving about the hotel. Our 3 young boys had so much fun at the kids club, massive thanks to the 2 Eoins who made sure our boys had the time of their lives! Beautifully refurbished hotel, delicious food (and cocktails were out of this world btw!), and staff who make us and our young children feel like part of the family, can't wait to see you all again next week 😊 Thanks for everything ❤

Very enjoyable stay at the Holyrood, Room was excellent, very clean and comfortable. Very handy location, very reasonable prices, leisure centre great,
Possibly small areas for improvement on a lovely place to stay would be:
When a guest requested coleslaw, when they order fish& Chips a 6:30pm on Friday night they chef might not tell the waitress that there is none, make it fresh.
Insure customers don’t have to wait fifteen minutes after being seated for breakfast before someone takes an order, ensure, orange juice and milk are cold, and add another toast machine to speed things up and reduce waiting time.
Small changes can make the difference!

Stayed here with my son for 2 nights on the 31st of December. We arrived early but the room was ready which was great. We got a pizza for lunch which was really nice. The hotel was very busy and there was a lot of families with young kids. Our package included a 3 course meal which we chose to have at 6pm on new years day. We were shown our table and a server came over and took our order. We were the first to be served as we didnt want a starter and we both had the turkey and ham, which was lovely. A server came and took our plates and i asked for a drink while we waited on our desserts, unfortunatley, after 50 minutes and numberous attempts to get the attention of a server, who just seemed to ignore us, we decided to leave. My son is diabetic, and i had given him insullin to cover his dessert that he never got, so i had to go to the ice cream parlour so he didnt go into a hypo. Cant comment on the breakfast as we left early the next morning.

Not long back from the Holyrood with my son and my mum.
We had such a fantastic time , the hotel was clean and the staff were helpful.
Spa and pool were great ! Treatments were so relaxing , great atmosphere.
Food in the restaurant was lovely. Menu had loads of choice.
The location of the hotel is literally in the middle of Bundoran so you can walk to either end of the town comfortably.
I feel like the hotel is handling the strict Covid 19 restrictions really well under the continuous pressure they are under.
It is extremely hard to try and create a relaxing environment in present times and they did it well.
Full sanitising stations never too far away at any time.
The hotel is family centered and my 7 year old loved it particularly the kids club which was safe and protected.
I really couldn’t fault this hotel and we have stayed in many hotels in recent times.
Good job guys , can’t wait to return ! ✌🏼

We are just back from our family staycation in the Holyrood Hotel Bundoran. I have nothing bad to say about this hotel. The staff were very accommodating and polite even when I wanted to change a pre booked dinner time it was no problem. The food in the watermelon hotel was gorgeous both breakfast and dinner. Had two very fussy kids aged 11 and 12 with me and they loved every meal we had there and as for the price of our stay we wouldn't have gotten a better deal anywhere for what was included in the price. The location is great right in the middle of the town and less than a 5 minute walk to the beach and the amusements which the kids absolutely loved and we spent one full day there so location is definitely worth it. Will definitely be back again. Thanks to all the staff on reception and in the restaurant

I stayed
in the Holyrood Hotel for two nights b&b in June
I paid €280 which is roughtly £250 uk. Stg.
The price is based on 2 adults. No concession for 1 person. The bar food is very good. The restaurant charges €35 per person for 3 course dinner.
Yes the bar is available for residents
Hi. Just back from hotel today. Wasn't too many restrictions, sanitisers and one way system in bar (which wasn't enforced from what we could see). We ate at the bar and asked if there was a time limit for the table and were told there wasn't. If you want a drink without eating it was explained that we could take our drinks out into lobby. Of course things could change between now and September unfortunately. Enjoy your stay... Would recommend a visit to the fairy Bridge if not already been.
When we where there. Children had to be booked in that morning. Not sure about the length of time they can stay for and temperatures taken.
