Makarora River Ranch is on State Highway 6, about 2 km south of Makarora Visitor Centre. When we arrived, Eileen led the way to the cottage in her pick-up truck, she had already lit the log burner, so the cottage was warm and welcoming. Inside the cottage is spacious and comfortable with many nice touches,eg chocolate cake, fresh fruit, ingredients...

It's places like this we most enjoy when traveling. Out of town in the county and away from the crowds. Makarora River Ranch is a working farm, but also takes great care of the accommodation provided and their guests. Thanks again for short drives, Kaye! The wonderful modern equipped cottage allows you to enjoy the tramping tracks in the area...

The Lodge had it all, the best of everything. Lovely towels, comfortable beds, and well equipped kitchen. Firewood should you need it for the two fireplaces, family room and bedroom. Friendly host. Lots of family history on this 8000 acre working farm. Definitely well recommended

Makarora River Ranch is an incredible place. We (family of 4 adults) stayed in the Homestead for one night, and wished our itinerary was such that we could have extended our time there. We arrived late after a long day of driving to be warmly greeted by Willy. He showed us to our accommodation where we found a lovely fire...

We stayed at ‘The Cottage’ for three nights and cannot fault the accommodation, service or welcome. There was a great range of breakfast goods available and everything in the accommodation shouted “quality”. We were perfectly placed for exploring Haast Pass and despite the weather not being the best we had a great time. We hope to return to New Zealand...

Kaye made us very welcome at the river ranch. We had intended to spend a single night there before setting off on the Gillespie pass but the weather had other plans. We liked the accommodation so much that we decided to stay longer. The cottage is a separate unit with 2 massive en suite bedrooms (each with 2 lovely comfortable...

Cannot put in to words how amazing this place was!! We chose it for the fact it was in a remote location for peace and quiet and it delivered on every level and more. Thank you to Kaye for the very warm welcome! :) I loved this place, the surroundings, the extras like baking, fruit and breakfast foods. The lambs...

What an amazing part of the world this is, made even more special by Kaye& Willie Aspinall who manage the farm. They made us feel so welcome that we now feel like we are part of the family. The scenery is spectacular and there are walks around the farm or Willie will take you for a drive up to the...

The ranch is such a restful, calming place. Kaye's welcome was wonderful after a long day on the road. She showed us to our rooms in the old shearers'quarters which were luxurious on an American scale - including a whole deck with rough hewn furniture overlooking a valley and the sheep in the fields, a small stream with 4 delightful...
