This hotel is a family-run business that is friendly and accommodating. I was walking sections of Glyndwr's Way, and found it to be a very good base for that. The room is of a good spec. The meals are nicely cooked and straightforward - just what you want after a day out on the hills! I particularly liked the locally-sourced pork sausages that came as part of the cooked breakfast. They also kindly let me leave my car in their car park on the day I'd checked out, an example of how they will help if they can help. Thank you!

Appears to be a very old historic house converted into a hotel. The room was unique, original old creaky floorboards, very comfy bed and a new ensuite bathroom. Only complaint is that we couldn’t get the cold water to work in the shower so had to use the bath. The food was excellent apart from the steak and ale pie I had the first night, which only had about 4 small pieces of meat in it. Downside is the closest town is about 10 miles away, but good if you are there for the hiking. Appears to be family run, and may be short staffed as the woman who checked us in, served us and appeared to be in charge was very melancholy and emotionless.

Stayed here on business for two nights. Lovely country pub run by the owners. Very welcoming and they looked after me on my stay. Not many other restaurants nearby so ate at the restaurant on both occasions. Food was ok, average pub food all cooked by the owners. Rooms were not to my liking and not the cleanest. The kettle was full of limescale and the bedding smelt damp and musty. Tv is very small laptop size scree.Rooms are noisy from the owners and their children living above. I found the shower to be very hot and wasn’t able to adjust the temperature.
The first morning I had a full English and the quality was nice. There was a menu stating other products including yoghurts and other products that were not present. There was coffee and juice, but juice was served in a wine glass, that seemed odd. The second morning at breakfast I didn’t get an option off the menu and the owner said I’ve cooked you a full English that was waiting for me when I got down. I felt enclined to have it even though I may have chosen another option from the menu. There was also a glass I used for my juice left there from the previous day. Overall the building and its surroundings were nice. Just for £100 a night expected more.

I really wanted to like this establishment as it was one of the reasons we had booked the campsite nearby but was disappointed on so many levels. The first day we were going to have lunch there and they were closed. I called to ask if they would be opening and was told by a very unpleasant lady that I would have to book. The next day, with doors still closed, I rang to ask if I had to book a table if we were just having a drink in the garden, this time a very bemused gentleman said that of course I wouldn't have to book. So we popped in for a mid-afternoon drink and my husband was greeted with the same woman who again demanded whether we had booked a table, with further rude instructions on COVID protocols which she had clearly made up as she went along. As we hadn't eaten that day we thought we might have a snack with our drinks, with a view to booking a table for an evening meal later. Unfortunately the sharing platter was so expensive and so disgusting we were put off from doing this. The platter consisted of about ten items of deep fried mush (we couldn't identify the chicken goujons etc, and the onion rings were identified by shape only). It looked as though they had come from a Farm Foods deep freezer, would've cost about 25 pence and we were charged £12; ridiculous. Really disappointed and certainly won't be returning.

If you’re passing by, stopping local or wanting a delicious drink or meal with wonderful service come here. We have eaten here in the restaurant & enjoyed a drink in the bar & loved it. The family that run it are beautiful, thank you. Super accommodating, they also pour a lush Guinness which is a massive hit for us!

We will be back!

We came for Dinner with two kids. The young waitress was kind. The food was very pricey for what it was and the salad wasn't well presented also the Beef lasagna didn't seemingly have any noticeable pieces of beef in it and the coleslaw had onions in it which wasn't specified on the menu which was a shame because we ordered the coleslaw for the kids to eat. I think the food presentation and preparation could deserve more loving.

Another delicious meal at The Cann Office Hotel! Tried the chicken curry this time, so tasty and perfect quantity of chips, rice & naan bread as accompaniments. Could not resist the rhubarb crumble and custard for dessert. Always a warm welcome from the family running the pub, this is a firm favourite of ours when we camp nearby. Definitely recommend.

Had Sunday lunch today (February 26th) and in short...............it was excellent, truly excellent. Of course it depends on what you want in a country pub on a Sunday and Caan Office delivers enormously. Family run, all hands to the tiller, lovely warm welcome, cosy inside on what was a really cold day, and our orders were taken quickly. We had starters (haddock fishcakes and mushrooms in a garlic sauce, with toast - delicious), mains were of course roasts, my wife had lamb, I had turkey; again, excellent, served in a carvery and you helped yourself to seasonal vegetables. Puddings we had were fresh fruit pavlova and rhubarb crumble with custard; superb. Everything was just as I'd hoped, the decor is rustic; lots of really good pictures of local animals and as an artist believe me, these images capture the feel of the locality (we recently moved here). I know we will come back here again and again and I promised the owners we'd bring our friends and relatives too. It really is fabulous for a warm, quiet Sunday lunch. It seemed to us that a lot of the guests were locals as they seemed to have established a warm rapport with the owners, so I guess that endorses my comments. Finally, as we left, a couple who hadn't booked (you need to) were squeezed in with a smile. I liked that a lot.

Stopped on the off chance on way back from a weekend away, they were busy with bookings but checked and said they could serve us but may be a little wait which we were fine with.
Service was actually pretty quick, very thourough, nothing was to much trouble, and the family run business shone through with everyone mucking in to help.
Superb food, lovely place and atmosphere.
Will definitely come back when passing again.

Not normally the type of person to write reviews as i try and live a peaceful life. Four of us went last night 19/10/23 around 6.30pm. The place was empty not a person in sight, walk in and the lady was very rude and shocked when we asked if they had a table for four people. Only to be felt stereotyped and very uncomfortable maybe because we are English who knows like I said the place was empty like A wild west saloon and the lady looked at us in disgust and said fully book even through not one person was in then the excuse short staffed. We all walked out feeling very socked as she clearly doesn't like US English people smartly dressed. Very disappointing and the place smelt like fish. Please avoid and drive a further 15 minutes down the road you will find a really good and better place. AVOID AVOID AVOID. Thanks

Hi, I think the nearest taxi co is Welshpool, the cann office is half way between Welshpool and Machynlleth so there's not a lot in between both towns! Hope this helps? Cheers John.
