We host a Pilgrimage tour that includes morning walks to untouristed sacred and natural sites. 2 Hours from Cancun or Merida airports; 1.5 Hr from gorgeous Caribbean beaches at Tulum or the biosphere reserve on the Gulf of Mexico. 45 Minutes from Chichen Itza; Half hour from the Colonial city of Valladolid, cenotes XKeken (Dzitnup) and Samhula and minutes from the Ek Balam archaeological zone, cenote Xcanche, cenote Hubiku and others. See our free Tours and Activities travel planner online at GenesisEkBalam. We are independently owned and use a portion of profits to provide ongoing work and skills development for local staff, intercultural exchange programs and animal welfare projects. Genesis has operated at Ek Balam for 13 years. It is owned by a local resident expat from Canada who lives on site. Management is Yucateca and also on site. Continental Breakfast Included. I'm so glad that you took a break from your all inclusive experience on the coast to experience real Yucatan. It is always rewarding to see guests connecting in a relaxed way with staff and local friends. The hospitality of my Maya neighbors is definitely something worth experiencing. Thank you. Lee

Thanks for mentioning the menagerie here, mostly rescues, including 2 parrots, a few former street dogs, 2 cats, 2 rabbits, a few geese, ducks and chickens (fresh eggs!). You can have breakfast at the garden table and spot a variety of endemic and migratory birds, frogs and geckos. If it is human company you seek, you will find locals incredibly welcoming and like-minded fellow travellers ready to share some fascinating stories and recommendations. It was a pleasure to host you.

I hope you can return as well, especially in rainy season when the Yucatan is draped in flowering vines and busy with butterflies and birds. Thanks for heading off the beaten path!

We are a family of 5 with children aged 13, 11 and 7 and we stayed at Genesis for four nights. Our stay there was one of the best parts of our holiday in the Yucatan. The children loved the pool and spent hours leaping off some rocks into the water, and my wife and I both read se

I think Genesis and Ek Balam was a great fit for your family. Even your teenagers seemed content to have limited access to computers and other electronics. So great to see a family engaged with one another and their surroundings, and an honor to have a part in facilitating that. Thank you for the opportunity to host you.

Hello , would like to know transportation options like Taxi,or other shared transportation options etc from Cancun to the place and how much will it cost ?
A taxi from the airport, here will be considerably more expensive than the other direction (due to regulations and licencing required to pick up passengers at the airport). A taxi from Genesis to the airport will take just over 2 hours on the toll road. The taxi will cost between $70 and $80 and you cover the toll fee which is $16 at this time. Thanks for writing.

I am looking at staying there in early November, we want to spend dia de los muertos at the ruins. How would we get there from Meirda with no car? Will cabs go out there?
If you write to us directly, I have a few attachments and maps I can send you. It is part of our arrivals package but you may find it helpful.

We will be traveling in early November. My daughter is rather allergic to mosquitoes. How bad are they at that time of year?
Actually, November is the perfect month here. It is cooling down, hurricane season is over, the daily rains have stopped, everything is still lush and flowering...and mosquitos are relatively scarce here because Yucatan has no surface water, no rivers or lakes where mosquitos breed. Additionally, at Genesis we have natural controls like swifts (which nest here and eat several times their weight per day in mosquitos). Also our fish and frog stocked ponds with dragon flies help keep mosquitos at bay. The rooms have mosquito nets and fans for those mosquitos that get past the hungry geckos.
