Exclusive luxury Lopesan Baobab Resort was inaugurated in 2009; it is located in the south of the island of Gran Canaria, in the exclusive Meloneras holiday area, just a few walking minutes away from the extensive, several kilometres long, Maspalomas beach and the impressive landscape of sand dunes. Famous Maspalomas lighthouse is situated nearby, as well as the long coastside promenade. ExpoMeloneras Convention Centre is also located only a few steps away from the hotel. Five-star hotel Lopesan Baobab Resort has become one of the preferred destinations for family holidays of Spanish national tourists. Thanks to the uniqueness of its architecture inspired by the African continent, its impressive water landscapes with pools, rivers and waterfalls, as well as the high quality services offered, this hotel shows off ethnic charm, modernity and refinement. The hotel’s main entrance leads guests over a picturesque wooden bridge to the reception area, passing a grandiose aquatic landscape with waterfalls. From the lobby you can reach the hotel rooms or the large garden area, on a surface of 56,000 square metres, in the centre of which a large 21 metres high wooden African lodge is located; this lodge houses a restaurant and a bar. Common areas are connected by an extensive sheet of water crisscrossed by small bridges. In total there are nine swimming pools (all of them heatable at different temperatures) covering a total surface of 4,245 square metres. The “lazy river”, two artificial beaches, pools with waterfalls and caves, and two pools for babies and children are specially outstanding. The hotel’s leisure and recreation areas are enriched even more by a complete entertainment programme with a variety of activities during the day and in the evenings. The Lopesan Baobab Resort offers high quality cuisine in all restaurants, characterized by an elevated level of creativity. For this purpose the hotel’s select kitchen staff puts special emphasis on using the best products and on preparing them in presence of the hotel guests. The ‘Akara’ Restaurant is only open for dinner and its name refers to an African recipe; it offers flavours from the very heart of Africa with a menu committed to originality. The hotel’s second à la carte restaurant is the ‘Pili Pili’ Restaurant, open at lunchtime and specialised in paellas, seafood and grilled meat. Furthermore, there are two buffet restaurants, the ’Marula’ and the ‘Baobab’, the premises of which are conveniently separated to provide differentiated atmospheres where delicacies from international occidental cuisine are served. The rooms’ interior design carefully combines colour schemes and African ambience. The Lopesan Baobab was built on a plot of 72,000 square metres with a total of 677 modern rooms. The hotel has at its guests’ disposal a complete and varied entertainment programme, offering something for everybody. Many of the organised activities take place during the day and in the evenings.

Good points: - Restaurant and bar staff were exceptionally friendly. - cleanliness was fantastic. - the long lazy river was great to swim or float around on an inflatable. Could have done with a bit more flow in some places though. - food was better than most have said, especially in the ‘pili’ restaurant. - being able to book the table serviced ‘pili’ restaurant for every day to avoid hectic buffet restaurants. We easily altered a dinner reservation to the buffet restaurant when we found out that the pili restaurant menu was not to our liking the following night. Bad points: - Paying for a room safe in a 5 star hotel (never had that anywhere else in the world). - Aircon a bit noisy and can only be described as “adequate”. - my wife would have liked more light to do her make-up. - No bed linen change in (stayed 9 days). - Vegan or vegetarian food was nonexistent unless you like salad. Luckily I like meat! - Due to the lovely manicured gardens, getting a sun bed that avoids shade from the trees all day is pretty tricky. - no tea or coffee facilities in room ( 5 star hotel but probably another COVID excuse). - despite hotel looking half full, we weren’t allowed to pay for a late checkout or courtesy room. Our taxi arrived at 6:20pm so no room after 12pm that day. The room next to us had a late checkout the day before. I think if my name was David Beckham or Lewis Hamilton, I would have been allowed to get a late checkout. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but the late checkout failure spoilt it at the end. The hotels was 95% German guests, possibly due to the fact that UK travel restrictions are still too concerning for some people. The only reason I have stated this, is that most of the Germans seemed to smoke all day, which as a non-smoker is disgusting. Why can’t hotels allocate non-smoking pool areas so that people can come back from their holiday feeling healthier?

The hotel is simply fantastic, the infrastructure is massive, but very well designed and classy and somehow “Africa-themed”. The pool areas are amazing, the greenery is worthy of a botanical garden, the river pool is probably the largest and nicest ever seen - so relaxing! Despite the place being huge, you always feel a certain privacy and different corners of the garden have their own Ambiente. There are different restaurants and bars, each one better than the other (especially liked the Richard Burton). The staff is great, there are so many employees working to make everything perfect and smooth. They are not only professional, but all of them come across as genuinely nice, authentic, and welcoming - it feels like a well-run team. The rooms are nice, well furnished and especially the ones on the higher floors facing into the garden seem to be the best. Btw those Bamboo-bushes in the inner courts of the buildings are quite unique and provide this wonderful tropical feel. Everywhere you go, it feels clean and very well maintained. Food is excellent (forget any intention of pursuing a diet!) the buffets are large with a wide selection, the seating areas very nice - especially the ones outside, the quality high (except those coffee machines, slow, often broken, and the coffee does not even taste well, please ditch them…). There are activities during the day, water gymnastics, table tennis, darts, basket back, and a good kid’s club. The beach and the dunes are a short walk away, and right outside of the hotel you also find shops, restaurants, car rentals and all. In short, this resort deserves the highest ranking. Still there are a few things that could be improved with a a bit of effort: WiFi login theoretically would be easy, but in most places (rooms, pool area) the signal is not there or unstable - quite frustrating - probably needs just many more transmitters. Gym not at par with the quality of the resort (small, old equipment). There is - for extra payment - access to the “Titan Gym” just outside the hotel, this one should be included or the existing gym upgraded. The “hotel mask policy” (i.e. “wear the mask everywhere, inside AND outside, except when you sit at a dining table or lie on a sun bed or are in the water” is excessive (stricter than anywhere else outside and not part of the government policy). It is also not followed by most of the guests and not enforced by the staff. May be better to follow healthcare authority rules and stick to them? Room cleaning is a bit mixed (we had multiple rooms): different rooms receive waters, amenities, a mini bar refill, while others at different times do not (all were in the same category and same rate) - possibly a QA check is required for consistency? In any case, we truly enjoyed our stay at the Baobab, it’s one of the best hotels we’ve been (definitely in Europe) and we warmly recommend it to anybody going to Gran Canaria!!

What can I say after reading some of the reviews stating that the place looked tried and needing updating Couldn’t be more wrong the place was outstanding and ticked all the boxes. There were some pool tiles missing but you could see where they were to avoid. If only one negative would be people putting towel on the sun beds all day and didn’t use them so limited sun beds 🤦🏻‍♂️. Apart from that would highly recommend and would revisit wasn’t disappointed

Lovely grounds and good pools. The guest room are however awful. The are old and tired with chipped and stained furniture, A tired old sofa bed to sit on in a dark depressing room - I challenge the Management of this hotel to justify how they can advertise their guest room as 5 Star (start with Rm 3054). I hated going back to the room in the evening as it was really dreadfully depressing. A completel refurbishment is urgently required. If a guest room is important to you avoid this hotel at all costs.

Dear John, Thank you very much for choosing us and for taking the time to share your experience with the other users of this social network. We regret your comments about your room. One of the excellent hotels that exist on the beach of Maspalomas in the south of Gran Canaria, but be careful, it is one of the most expensive We chose it for its excellent decoration that represents the African fauna It is very well decorated with multiple African environments, both in the pools, as in the bars and restaurants and has many pieces such as axes, spears, African baskets distributed throughout all its corridors. It has many different types of environments and at night they usually have shows to entertain guests It is very well located, as soon as you leave the hotel there are several shopping centers and a pleasant promenade
